RBT Wooden Mouthpieces

Hey FC... RBT has a design concept for a wooden mouthpiece.

The first cut is an all wood design. The bottom of the load chamber is chamfered to maximize flow and can be fitted with a flat sceen for max load size. It will also accept the standard basket screen. Their are three grip rings at the base and the end is sized to work as a 14 mm wong. I will see if Pak will post a few pics ... Please give any feedback to help improve the design.

Love that it will be a 14mm wpa. Always prefer to have a 14mm over a 18mm with the glass I have. 14-18 adapters are super cheap too

Sorry for the delay. As requested, here are the concept drawings:

My concern about wood as a mouthpiece material is cleaning. Even with a path as wide open as this, you'll get that sticky honey build-up fairly quickly.

..depending upon what type of wood is used, different flavor profiles can be utilized..of course not everyone’s cup of tea, but variety has its place...cheers.

@pakalolo I agree that they are hard to clean and @Summer I also prefer glass. I thought about lining it with glass but then you need to adhere the glass to the wood ... adhesive or 0-rings and it makes the size bigger. @Mangu The diameter would have to grow a good deal to get the cooling glass with pinches in it... basically you would need to wood sleeve a cooling MP with wood or wood will still remain in the flow path in the load chamber. This would add a good deal of cost and price it out of the market. I am considering ceramic insert for the bottom of the load chamber to improve flow paths to improve ABV. @antispleen if it reminds you of Ed's than I must be on the right track.

In the end a simple wooden mouthpiece seems to be the sweet spot for value given the cost and complexity of adding glass... thinking that is why it really hasn't been done before... RBT is all about the KISS.

Any feedback on form is much appreciated. I made the outside rings a bit larger diameter than the inner one to make a "landing pad for your thumb". Also considered largest near the joint and smallest closest to the mouth end. Made the mouth end radius as large as possible to maximize the smoothness on your lip. Reduced the ID from the load chamber to make the wood thicker and therefore stronger and less prone to warping... and the 14 mm wong is a nice feature to have in a MP.

That looks nice . @Alan makes a similar looking chambered herb chamber as well.

As for ceramic lined decks for seed or sprout, this following rad deck as been around since 2015. not sure how conceptual or patentable that might be already having been done before . Just a heads up

Wooden stems look great, but taste suffers IME. Glass lining might not be a bad idea, maybe add orings only further at the top ,that should be enough to hold it and Diameter increase there is not that much of an issue.
Maybe if they were SS lined with 0.1mm foil then wont be a need of diameter increase nor orings.
