Ode to a world of plastic

We allowed the plastic to package our foods
To contain our water
To let our children play
To float in our seas
To enter our lives
In our breasts, in our lips
In our asses, in our cunts
In the stomachs of dolphins
We made wars for plastic
we have bombed entire peoples
we have our plastic toys
we read the destinies of the world on plastic
even the constitution is written on plastic
we let the plastic in
even in our brains
in our thoughts
in our dreams
We preferred plastic
to Mother Hemp
to Mother Nature

Random Thought Tied to A Question.....

Exposure to addicts and addiction began for me over 50 years ago. Based on the age of many FC folk I know I'm not alone.

I have known people who became addicted to the worst drugs out there. Heroin, cocaine, alcohol, crack, prescription opioids......Overdosing, suicide, violence, theft, assault, car accidents from nodding out, death to themselves and others. I've personally watched someone go cold turkey twice trying to kick heroin and it was brutal.

I developed a rule that once someone hit bottom they either seek help or I cut them loose. No calls, no contact. In other words, as long as you're a functioning addict who am I to judge. If they bottom out and get help I'm there for them but not until then. If they have to seek help a second time...I'm still there for them after they get help. If there is a third time then we're done and no amount of contrition or institutionalized help has ever changed my mind. In the case of family I'm lucky nobody in the family has ever hit bottom three times. I also consider myself lucky for not falling down the rabbit hole myself.

I've told friends and acquaintances who hit bottom that "the first two are on you and the third is on me" meaning there isn't going to be a third time with me and I've stuck to it....no calls, no contact.

I enjoy cannabis and alcohol and part of the reason there is no third chance is because I'm too selfish to give up my own vices to be around someone who can't control theirs and I don't want to be the cause for dragging them down.

Am I being too harsh?

I don't have your frame of reference: perhaps if I lived in your shoes. Additionally I don't have children: it has to be heart breaking to see your child dying from a seemingly preventable outcome. I can't say how tolerant I'd be. Still, that anyone would go back on hard drugs knowing you are risking death, the scorn of your loved ones, and your sobriety after a successful drying out says something about the power of addiction. I read in the NYTimes that generally it takes on the average 5 attempts to quit to successfully kick the habit.

You have to do what works for you. One of the most important books I read as a young man was "When I say no, I feel guilty." I found myself over-stretched by saying yes so much I had nothing left for myself. When all I could give was given, there was no more for anyone. The overall help I could provide others from saying yes so often reduced the amount I could give when I said no.

That being said, rules are nice and all but it is really, really hard to create good rules that can address future situations. That's why laws are written so broadly. Two and you're out might be a little strict as a rule standard--at least before considering the specific facts you are presented with at that time. I'm a guy who is very forgiving to people who try--even if the tries are unsuccessful. That does not mean I have to pick them up and wipe their bum for them if they need it, it just means I will encourage the effort no matter what.

How that encouragement comes, depends. It depends on what *I* am willing to do under the circumstances. No matter what I choose, it is OK and I don't feel guilty about it at all. The only thing I'm almost always willing to do is to listen. I don't take *their* monkey on *my* back. (A good book to give some techniques to give such tough love in the marketplace is Blanchard's "The One Minute Manager Meets the Monkey". Just because it is meant for managing people, does not mean it doesn't show useful techniques that can be used inter-personally outside of work.)

My Grasshopper love affair is becoming a problem

Walked into gallery after typical hopper morning, gawked at MC Escher exhibit of original woodcut prints

Walked out with a receipt. I need Hopper recovery help

Colds and whatever else happens to be passing its virusy ass through these parts on any particular day have been jumping from one member of my family to another all freakin' winter and I'm just about sick of it. Probably 'cause I've been the most recent victim, back-to-back. I'm extra grateful to cannabis on days like these.

I live along the banks of the Columbia River. The river level, at a low, is just now starting to rise due to snow melt and rain. That rising river induces salmon to start their trek up the river. This brings out the boat loads of fishermen, especially on weekends. Commercial traffic, like barges of grain pushed by tugboats, have the Right-of-Way. The tugboats sound their horns to clear a path. Hilarity ensues.

Saw fascinating Trevor Paglen exhibit today

One huge wall had Black Ops program names. Snapped pic of just a portion. Many of them are, or could be, strain names. (Hail Hydra, btw)

Collection of about 50 Black Ops patches, here's a sample. Wonder which one @Baron23 wore, in addition to his Aggressors patch? But if he told us, he'd have to kill us

And the carriers of their own shit continue to prohibit, to set, to cross, gathering in great ancient villas, surrounded only by the noise of their own teeth, then intent on claiming in the newspaper how much they could and do not do, committed to smiling and eluding , taking advantage of the ingenuity and goodness of the human being. Forever damned.

Been on the phone for the last hour with an old friend who wants to do a podcast with me. I told him I don't have the time... and he has been talking for the last hour about it like I said I can do it. He doesn't realize I've been "uh-huh"-ing him for an hour.

Being friends with an ex is weird. Like when she tells you she's about to sign up for a dating site because it's been too long & she's getting that itch. Then later when listening to music & for the first time really listen to a recently released Prince outtake & think to send it to her because it's cool... you realize she might get the wrong idea by you sending "We Can Fuck."

What can disturb my relaxing high on a warm April evening?
A choir outside the window.
"Happy Birthday to You!"
...
I believe that there is nothing more melancholy in the world, those musical notes are a damnation!
I think it could be the perfect soundtrack of a horror movie.
Let's say it's halfway between horror and the big-ass joke! The tone is that!

No, I'm not happy of the advancing years ...:D

But it always made me that effect!
Fucking song!

So I see on the TV that there is an ingredient in jellyfish that promotes memory health. I live close enough to the coast. Wouldn't a big bowl of jellyfish be better? Maybe with a little real maple syrup. Peanut butter and jellyfish sandwiches and jellyfish roll cake: I could remember my birth.

There is a guy at work who traps people in neverending one sided conversations where the other person just nods or says "yeah" for like 30 minutes to an hour when he gets going. He apparently hasn't missed being in the audience of SNL for like a decade. This past week I heard he was pissed because there was a line waiting for tickets early in the week due to some Korean pop band. He took Friday off to wait in line.

Today is Monday & I saw him wearing a hospital band on his wrist. I will not ask for the obvious reason, but I'm sure the actual story is nowhere near as good as my immediate thought of an altercation with the fans of the pop band.
