Jealous of that Milanna.

I was/am hoping for a deal on a ZV1 just because I love my custom Z that much. I should really pass on that PIU deal on the V2, much as I'd be curious to compare it to my V1. I'm hoping they're about the same in which case I'd prefer the smaller size of the V1 even if it is a bit more fragile.

I think my healthy Splinter relationship has diminished my zeal for 420 shopping. I'll start looking at stuff and be like "Well shit, if I'm gonna spend that then I can get a Splinter!"
Is there a significant enough difference between the v2 and the Z custom that it's worth my spending nearly twice the PIU v2 price? Would I be better off cancelling my pre-order and buying the v2?

I don't have a v2 to compare. The custom Z is incredible and my all time favorite for vapor quality and flavor. If it were me and I was feeling cheap I'd get the v2 because it's the deal right now and then try to find a deal on a Z later.

@eideal852 is right that the Z takes a bit longer to get warmed up.

I'm still kinda tempted to get a V2 at that price but I'm holding out for a ZV1 which hasn't seen any 420 action so far.

I wasn't feeling cheap until I saw that PIU special on the v2. I had budgeted for the Z, so maybe I'll just get it. It doesn't sound like I'm going to regret it.

I would buy the Z, you will end up upgrading least most of use did. My splinter isn't used since I got the Z. Nothing wrong with the splinter just the Z is even better.

So far I haven't heard anyone that regretted buying the Z:)

Own both the V2 and a US custom Z, both great; but its all about that Zion heater.
I think I have to agree with this. While the Zion heater may be a little slower at startup, it's extra power is beneficial. Once warmed up it performs better. I think the Z is worth the extra cost. Nothing wrong with the Splinter, but the Z is it's bigger bro...

I don't even notice a heat up delay with my custom Z, I only notice that oddly enough with my V2, but because it is on my RXdna with temp control... Wattage is still instant on demand for both imo

How long are we talking in terms of warmup? I generally take a hit, put it aside for 15-20 min, etc etc. Is the Z good for this scenario?

Heating up 5secs off the bowl, and then 5secs on the bowl, no draw. Repress fire while drawing.

So 10-15seconds from cold, depending on mod & setting I suppose.

Yeah, @Stickyblack is on point about the heat soaking. Like I said I don't own a v2. The V1 is quicker to produce dense vapor from a cold start because the heater is smaller.

For me the Z hasn't overshadowed the V1 even though it does perform better. But then I'm the kind of person who saves their favorite shirt and then a week goes by like that and it's laundry day and I never did wear it.

Honestly for just a hit every half hour the v1 or v2 might suit you better. You can for sure heatsoak the Z and use it that way, it just won't shine like it does when you get it warmed up properly.

I preheat my loaded Z 10 sec on bowl, then take my 1st draw.
What does "on bowl" and "off bowl" mean?

Actually it's more like a hit, then I wait a bit to gauge effect, then another, then I might wait what I *think* is a half hour, but is actually more like 10 minutes. Are you saying that the Z is more a session vape than an on demand? I thought the genius of the box mod vapes was on demand pure convection.

no, it's on demand- no Arizer shenanigans where you need to find some "chores" to walk around for full extraction- it just that the beast really shines when it gets a little soaked. if it really is that schedule for you, one puff, feel it out, wait a bit, I echo that the v1/v2 may be the better option. It's quicker off the line, but it gets left behind once everyone's in high gear...

edit: I guess i'm just going to post, slightly delayed, everything bossman posts.

but while i'm editing, I do NOT think that anyone who has or is waiting for a v1 needs to worry about upgrading/swapping/needing a v2. Just too similar to sweat it. unless you have VAS, but then its more "gotta catch em all!" amirite? (no baby, the WOOD is different... see?)

But isn't that kind of the definition of the session vape? Now I'm really confused. I wonder if I can cancel the pre-order...

Depends on Mod and the what settings used. Something with preheat will get the Z up to speed quickly. I use 60 watts preheat (less than a second) on the Z and it almost instant vapor on the DNA. I tend press the button when I pick up unit by time it hits my lips the vapors is there. If unit is cold it may add 2-3 seconds on the first hit. I just do a light inhale blow that out then take a big draw on the first hit.

Here is 2 second draw on the SplinterZ where the red line makes the slight curve is when preheat ended. Hope this helps.

I'd be using the Z at first with an Espion 200W and then a Lost Vape Paranormal if it ever arrives from China. Honestly, does it sound like the Z's going to be wasted in my use pattern? I'd like to know sooner than later, so I can cancel the preorder, get a refund and buy a v2.

No, no reason to be confused, the Z is 100% instant pure convection on demand. Everyone here commenting has several to compare, imo they are totally nitpicking. You'll be fine with the Z for your useage scenario, I can pretty much guarantee that. If you use it and feel it is starting too cool for you, just start at a higher wattage setting (can also adjust your draw, and as mentioned hold button for a few seconds before you start drawing). I think you are understandably just hung up on the differences between the options available, they all work well in a variety of ways. Don't worry you're good
