Information on making bho from THC crystals

Hi guys,

This is my first post on this forum, i joined because I couldn't find much information online at all about using a tumbler for trim or bud, collecting the THC crystals and then blasting the crystals with butane.

My question is does this work ? And how does it affect yield?

Im just looking too reduce the amount of product that I need too blast with butane.

I can't see any reason why this won't work, but wanted too ask "the pros" first before doing so.

Well, I suggest rosin first. This would be easier/safer.

That being said,

What sort of filter would you be blasting through? You will get more quantity with a kief powder, but you will also get more contaminant affecting the quality. Up to you where your happy medium lies.

Make sure you do this outside and away from any potential sparks.

I have actually done a fair few butane runs before but I have always done it with actual leaf or bud, and just wanted too make sure I wasn't going too ruin everything completely, or drastically reduce my yield.

I'm not sure on the filter, i usually just use 2 coffee filters on the bottom of my homemade tube and put a elastic band around them too hold them on, and change after every butane can. Do you have any suggestions as too what I should use though ?

And of course safety first always :D

I read the headline, and thought that you were actually talking about THC crystals, as in like 99% thc in crystalized purified form. Then I realized that you were talking about trichomes, as in dry-sift hash, or something similar, not actual THC crystals.

I'd originally posted asking why the hell you would want to blast THC crystals, because there is nothing there that wouldn't dissolve into the butane to separate if you were blasting actual THC crystals.

Ive never blasted kief before, I prefer to use a rosin press.
My thoughts are that the kief, being so fine, would make filtration a bitch but Ive never tried it to confirm.
Maybe someone else has tried?

Yeah, every time I see people extracting concentrate from that sort of hash/dry-sift/bubble/kief they are pressing rosin out of it, not blasting it with solvent.

My biggest concern would be that the kief will firm a solid plug in the tube causing blowback or a total tube explosion. Either would ruin your day.
If you want to make concentrate from your kief, a simple ISO or Ethanol wash will be a bit easier (and safer)
