Log Style or Extreme Q for Daily Use

First and foremost let me just say hi because this is my first post on FC, been lurking for a few months. This is by far one of the best MJ related forums I have found!

In the past I have used a cheapo box style whip vape. I found mixing of the bowl because of uneven airflow and dealing with the whip to be a PITA, so I started packing the little bowl on my tube with less than .1 and just held the box up to the bowl. This worked much better than I expected. I was perfectly happy with this setup until my friend broke the glass tip on the box.

So here I am completely torn between these two vapes. I absolutely love all of the log style ones. They are well priced. The heat exchanger stays hot throughout the whole rip. They are as durable as a vape can get. This is a big concern for me. I myself am not clumsy and don't usually break things, but I am a college student so my friends are not the same way. Also, being a student means that sometimes I have to hide things (not often, i am not in dorms) so being able to throw a log style anywhere without having to worry about it is a big plus. My biggest concern is the 30 min heat up time. With planning this isn't a problem, but sometimes I need to get it done and go. I know that leaving it on all the time isn't that big of a deal. I tended to do that with the box, but I tried not to.

The Q is nice because it heats up quick, has the ability to dial in temperature, which I feel is pretty important, and fills bags. The bags address the concern of my friends being clumsy for the most part and the unit looks pretty sturdy. I don't really care for the flashy looks of it, but thats not a big deal. I am really just not sure if I am ready to go back to using a whip. I think the vertical positioning of the bowl will be a lot better, but I am still nervous.

What do you guys think?

Will this vape be used as a party vape, that is, will it be used between 3 or more people quite often?

c0rpse, welcome to FC!

Some form of your question has been asked a few times and honestly its near impossible to answer. Obviously you've done your reading and know that the Extreme is about as far from a log-style vape as exists and how different their uses are. In this way, narrowing your choices down to the Extreme and a log-style vape leaves a lot of unanswered questions, e.g. what will be your regular use. Ultimately both styles offer completely different deliveries of vapor but its hard to go wrong either way.

Use as a party vape will be secondary. There might be a group of 4 once a week. My most used method of vaping is through the bong, getting nice fat rips off just enough bud, but I do have fond memories passing around many large bags from my buddies cano and being completely obliterated afterward. Another thing to take into consideration is my bong is 14mm only.

I generally wake up and vape a quick bowl to myself. Then around lunch time I usually vape one or two with my girlfriend, and at night I vape my brains out or just smoke.

How thick can the hits from a purple-days get in a bong? Is there enough heat to vaporize most of the bowl after one hit? How hard is it to get uncomfortably vaped with the PD?

Would not recommend a PD to use between 4 people. A good bag vape like the Zephyr Ion (almost half the price of a 'Cano) would be a much better choice.

A PD stem would fit into that perfectly.

The hits can get pretty thick when hitting a PD through a bong, depending of course on the quality of your bud. When bonging the PD, I can get 2 solid hits just below coughing level and 2 more lighter hits from one bowl. How hard to get uncomfortably vaped? Again, this is totally dependent on the quality of your bud. For me, with the best bud I can get from the dispensaries here in Cali, 3/4 of one bowl, 3 hits, gets me comfortably numb. Uncomfortably numb would require two bowls, but keep in mind that with the PD, the bowls will only hold about 0.025g (40th of a gram).

If you can leave the log on 24/7 then the warm-up time is not an issue. If you're going to leave this vape off and only plug it in when you know you'll need it then I'd say pick another vape. That's just a situation that is going to end in combustion.

Does Da Buddha count as a log style vaporizer? I'll have to do a search!

Anyway, Corpse, if you're interested in a whip/bag vaporizer, the ExtremeQ has satisfied my requirements since the week it was released. I'd recommend it to anyone, especially if they are interested in using the whip primarily, but having a bag option. Passing the whip from person to person with the EQ is made easy with it's swiveling bowl. Makes a difference. I use mine through a bong often and get thick hits. Bags when I have friends over, bachelor parties, etc.

Someone with more experience can override my opinion offering, though, i've only used a vapor bros, MFLBs, the da buddha, and my EQ, whereas there are FC members who've vaped with the guys who invented my vaporizers! Trust the forum and you'll end up with a nice piece!

Another option to leaving it on 24/7 is to plug it into a AC timer and have it turn itself on and off at predetermined times.

I decided to go for the Q. I know that eventually I will get the PD, but I think the Q will hold me over just fine until then. I used it extensively last night and I must say this thing is pretty awesome. The build quality is great, nice and light but good non creaky plastic. I was really stoked to find out that it works with my bong the same way my box vape did. The end doesn't actually seal against the bowl, but on fan speed one the hits are beautiful. No initial regrets whatsoever. Thanks guys!

I saw that in the thread. $150 for the first one is a steal!!! I could have grabbed one on ebay for $200, but I was feeling impatient and didn't want to risk not getting a warrantee. I really can't believe how much the precise temperature control affects the experience!

yeah i'd def get both  PD for solo use and EQ for groups. Also you can probably revape PD abv in EQ at higher temps to get some more bags.
