Hey All...
I do have several units assembled. I'll get some pics before the batch goes out. Been busy working with the programming. This is about tweaking software, taking advantage of the Evolv technology yet remaining as simple, as possible. Today, I needed a bit more mindlessness, so I switch to Watts Boost Mode, and got some coils done. Good, consistent coils make the unit function at the top level, as well as making final assembly easier. It also makes it much easier for the chip to respond properly. 10 coils formed, 10 more to go (already prepped). That will set me up nicely for the next batch of Elites and Classics.

Our biggest job with the software is to create the perfect default files for one TC mode and one Watt mode, everything else is really just a variation on that. @HerbieVonVapster has done amazing work, and the Elite, and all its current and future users will forever benefit.

April freaking fool's day. Every year I want to play the biggest April fools joke, but never do. This year, I'm sure, will be no exception. But April is OUR month, so let's kick it off right.

It's time to move the Elite sales to the next level, and this ain't no April Fool's joke, Coupon Code: FOOLERY - saves 10% on every Elite purchased this week, including Maple, Cherry, Walnut, and Koa

In the meantime, I'm still personally cruising on Watt Boost and loving the shit out of it. The added element of being in control of the hit, not just pressing the button, is something I'm quite used to. My starting wattage is normally 26 (normally never pass 29), and it really suits my quick sip style, especially with the boost element, which can really access a bowl quickly, almost feels like it extends the reach of the convected heat without getting even close to charring.

Temp control with dry herb, can be a challenge, and I'm finding it to call for a different style draw, not better or worse, but different. @HerbieVonVapster is nailing down the variables to enable true temperature reading, and excellent control. In my experience so far, hits tend to be longer, relying more on the unit, less on the withdraw of the trigger and breath than in wattage mode. I'm actually finding the wattage mode to be smoother and cooler, albeit with some skill called for - but no more than it takes to use a medical oil cartridge. Those simple carts have 3 settings of power, and you can use them in bed in the dark one handed - simple and effective.

What makes our wattage mode so cool is that preheat boost to bring the coil up to speed in the first second. A second pump of the trigger will actually give you another 65 watt punch, almost feels like you're stirring with the reach of the boost. The other thing I find, and this is a big tell, I'm drawn to a short wide open 18 mm tube in Watt boost. I want, and can handle, the large volume. This also allows me to pull more heat off the coil, and the tube never gets even warm. Toasty and ultra tasty - no throat irritation. I can get pretty susceptible to that when testing. In watt boost mode, I'm using a short unlined tube and not coughing - hard for me to move away from that no matter how much technology offers. So for you old schooler's , Watt Boost mode has been thoroughly tested and you can always fall back to what I'm using as my current default setting.

WATT BOOST USER GUIDE
Start out at 26 watts, use a wide open tube to pull more heat. In newer units, the preheat will be set to 65 watts, and punch to 8 (of 11). Cold ohms are set to .33 or .34. You can experiment with cold ohms up or down from .31 to .34. I don't think you're going to need to go outside of those parameters.

The first pull should be musky, full of flavorful vapor, low clouds. You can pump the trigger once or twice to utilize that boost feature. Be careful as it can be as high as 75 watts (I think Herbie's 65 for preheat is perfect). The wide open short tube produces the best pull (moves more air off the coil quick) and really works well in this set up. I coax as much as I can outta the bowl at 26 watts before bumping it up. I slowly bump to 27, 28, taking as many hits as I can at each setting (3 or 4) before having to stir the load at 28 or so. One stir, I can go back at it for another few sips. Short wide open stem and all, not one throat irritation or cough, while sipping on .1 gram for 30 minutes.

I'm blow away by this, and can't wait to see what a fully tweaked temp control can do.

Good Morning

Update on the State of Software Testing
The Evolv DNA75C is a remarkable device, with lots of variables, options, as well as ways to use it. Basically, the device can manage your hit by controlling just about everything, all the way to just pure wattage control. It does this by being able to accurately sense resistance. The unit cannot actually measure temperature, but rather circuit boards measure temperature indirectly through resistance. Different materials, set ups will come with different resistance levels, and change resistance at very different rates. The idea is to set up the software to enable the chip to read all of this accurately, and that is exactly what @HerbieVonVapster and I have been doing. We are finding that sometimes a minor adjustment can have a major effect.

The idea is to replicate each build as close as humanly possible. If the structural and mechanical elements are identical, the programming should be consistent as well. That is true up to a certain point, as I can't build on a microscopic level. Each unit will have slight variations and that should be handled by the chip. I need to determine these parameters so as to achieve optimal performance right out of the box.

I have about 12 units built, and that is a great sample of slight build differences. I will start to do a formal testing of each, logging in my journal the results. Each unit will be assigned a serial number as well for future tracking. There is so much information that this level of organization has become necessary to achieve consistency interpretting results.

I am working on some classics while I analyze and individually adjust each Elite, recording results.

I think in the end, this will set the Elite apart from other mod Vapes.

We're looking at everything, including the mechanics of the build, as it relates to the interaction with our chip. This includes everything from vent hole size / placement to internal basket screen density, especially as it relates to energy / temp transfer. The variables that you'll never have to touch are being set in stone - cold ohms, temp coefficient of resistance, case thermal resistance, and the like. This can have a big impact, especially with temp control modes, as reading the unit (via changes in resistance) happens on the fly is part of the process.

The variables you, as the end user, want to adjust are watts (power) and temp. Also, the boost, or preheat variables function exceptionally with dry herb, and without much fuss, both in watts mode and tc mode.
-----------------------------------------------------
Testing is tough on me. I realized last night that I cannot test once *irritated*. If I get any throat irritation or dryness, it impacts the draw automatically. My lungs, throat need to be 100 percent, or the testing is skewed. And that is not to say I need the most powerful pull on the planet, just adequate, but just as important, consistent.

The reason I know this so well is not even from testing, not even from the Elite, but I could see a drastic difference in performance in the Classic from late night to early the next morning. The Classic has nothing to adjust other than trigger and breath. If my breath is off, the session is completely different. Hence, adding glass lined long stems to customize things. With the Elite, the idea is to create a consistently smooth, powerful, tasty, quick hit, with zero muss or fuss, on a short wide open tube. Longer, glass lined tubes are great, but shouldn't be necessary. No need for distance, no need for hemp, no need for narrower air path with a perfectly tweaked set up. I want to get software to the point where the end user only need adjust wattage and / or temp, while utilizing the boost options. We are pretty much there, just nailing it down across many units.

This will be the ultimate Elite question. Will there be an across the board set of default values that will work on EVERY Elite, or will each Elite necessitate fine tuning? At this stage every unit will get hand tested / tweaked, as we narrow down the best possible settings to get started with. Also realize that the Elite will have the ability to be updated via the Escribe software. Very nice feature that will allow everyone to experience the latest advances.

Does anyone have a picture of a Koa Elite? I am sure someone posted a pic somewhere but I can seem to find it.

I wish I had one... j/k, there hasn't been a KOA Elite built quite yet, but soon... really soon.

This is what's going on in the Elite world. How many times have your heard both children and adults refer to the fact that in real life you could never possibly use the ability to solve *a particularly complicated math problem*, well now I know how important those math skills are. This is some complicated stuff, but thankfully, only at the manufacturer level. Once the parameters are set, it's a pretty simple peruse through the buttons to adjust temp or watts. Once the cold ohms are set, there should be no reason to change from hit to hit.

I'm testing several units at once. I bought a cool little note book, bunch of labels and small post it notes to keep tabs on everything as I test. The test dummies will get serial numbers, C.319.001 - cherry / march 2019 / number one. I'll record what I'm finding technically and via my senses. Nothing will be locked in stone until everything is done, but units that are humming along at the current decided upon default settings will go in a pre-approved pile. Other units that are different (better or worse), even slightly, will need to be analyzed as to why. I think I can work with three units at a sitting, uploading the new software, making adjustments (if any). Each unit gets a page in the book and notes jotted down on specs and performance.

This is way harder than it sounds, and this is my way of reeling it all in.

Good Morning!!!

April is my favorite month, and for obvious reasons. I can't believe it's been a whole year since my visit to the vape Mecca of the world, @Alan s shop. I'm truly a lucky guy to have been exposed to such knowledge, talent, and willingness to share.

The Elite testing is going really well. I'm finding lots of consistency from build to build on the four units currently under testing. I'm just about ready to move on to the next three or four. I'm going to sit with each unit, upload the settings, and sit back and evaluate the performance. I'll make minor custom adjustments, if necessary, and by hand, on each unit. At this stage in the development of the Elite software, that is the best I can possibly do to ensure a user friendly experience. And let us redefine *user friendly*.

User Friendly Vape: n / Can smash your face off right out of the box, with no muss, no fuss, no maintenance

Good afternoon Classics / Elitists...
Testing and building has become my life. Not sure what takes more effort. I decided to build Classics as I test Elites. Good on both fronts. I am going to post this message on both LB threads. There will be a big batch of Classics going out as soon as I can get them together. I am bringing a big walnut batch to completion over the next few days, but there are spoken for Cherry units being worked on as well. The days of a wide variety of units is over, and I need to put some Walnut and Cherry units on the shelves (both Classics and Elites).

While I pounding away at the perfect Walnut batch, I am very satisfied with testing, as well as the functionality of each unit. There may be changes in the future, but you'll have the option of uploading files, or making slight changes at a future date. In the meantime, I need to decide on profiles. There are 8 slots, but in all reality 8 slots are not really necessary. I will tweak at least two, on TC, one power. I guess I could do 4 and 4, with slight variations. The reality of dry herb vaping is the contents of the tube changes, so you'll need to bump up temp or watts to clear out a bowl, and then lower again for a fresh bowl. Maybe we could do. New to Spent on both TC and power. Simple stuff, just changing watts, power, preheat. The cold ohms will be set, and easily adjusted as well. Right now, after quite a bit of testing, I'm finding .31 or .32 to be optimal, almost across the board. That may change after more testing. This extensive testing may lead to some future design upgrades as well. Stay tuned!

Thankfully, testing and building is going well. A batch of both Classics and Elites will go out by the end of the month. I'm stocked up on just about all parts. Really digging in, getting ready to build some vapes.

Hello All,

Busy, busy, busy. Holy fucking shit. I have about six units fully tested, another four to go (more assemblies about to happen as well). I'm building a brand new batch of 10 walnut classics, while beginning yet another Elite batch. These units will be going out with 8 preset profiles. I've been using all of them!

I made a super score at my specialty lumber yard, and go some crazy maple, I guess you'd call it figured maple, as well as some more sweet looking black walnut. Wood stock is deep in Maple, Cherry, Walnut, and somewhat less in Koa.
I'm also about to create the first Elite Blend. I am not offering that on the website, because I can never predict what people want, hard to stay ahead of it, but I am making one blend batch. This will satisfy my customers who have previously purchased, as well as circulate a few more unique Elites. I have a great idea using some of my new stock. Since it's hard to make small batches of blends, I'll be putting together 10 or so. if interested in an Elite Blend please pm me. In the future this will be a custom order only, which I honestly don't really have time for.

Elite Blend price is $329 with tube and battery ($299 bare bones) - plus shipping.

duff

Well worn
I am getting fantastic results on the Elite very consistently now.
I am still running around 27 watts with a clean screen, no stirring and a normal inhale speed.

With no preheat, I am getting huge rips on the first hit. It ramps up in about 2-3 seconds and I typically feather the button for another 5. The taste is great throughout the load and there are no signs of scorching or hot spots.

Figured maple your killing me Mike. That would be my dream lil bud elite. Count me in as interested in custom with it or possible even a blend using it.

Definitely enjoying my batch one. On day 32 and the honeymoons stage is over and it's still my DD. Unless i'm helping someone with another device it's been the one I normally grab. I'll say I'm doing 80-90% of my daily puffs on the elite.

The draw is really good on elite. It's more open than splinter but less than the iheat. Getting this perfect is a very hard balance to achieve. I did try some other ideals recently with restricting it more but mixed results. Shared results with Mike but I really think it will a lot more RD before anything is worth changing there.

One of my early concern was that using a chip in lil bud would have effected the durability of the units. Though it be something I might have to baby. Finding I had really over estimated this concern. I wouldn't have wanted to put this to the test but fate decided different.

I lost my footing on stairs this morning (i'm ok) but watched in horror as the elite bounce down a flight of stairs. This is something most of my mod/510 device would not have survived. The elite i'm happy to report received no damage.

With wood protecting chip and providing some screen protection it's a solid little unit. It survived the stairs bouncing so I feel it will survive a few foot drop onto carpet or dirt. A harder surface like hardwood tile cement might even be possible too but it's not something i'm going test out.

It was my own stupidity with only one hand that works I was being lazy and carry too much crap. I guess I didn't have a good grip on the elite. Live and learn the main thing is I'm ok (well slightly embarrassed about falling lol) and the elite is too. Just glad it didn't break and was a happy ending.

I have to say... I love watt boost. I am also happy to report that my Cherry Elite has survived several drops onto both hardwood and the driveway from 3-4 ft. Testing has already been done so you won’t need to:)

Busy, busy, busy...

The Elite order has been tested to death. I'm actually sick from testing. Thanks @HerbieVonVapster for all the help with the software. I'm going to use your theme, and I tweaked the settings just a hair. At this point, units just need a bit of cosmetic buffing from all the handling / testing. My goal is Friday shipping with another dozen Elites. This should clean up mostly all orders prior to March 2019. There are a couple of Blends and Koa orders that will go out in May. Phew...

Awesome some folks should have there's by 420 :) How about some pic's of this batch?

How did things work out on case thermals where they close to same? Hopefully you won't need to run that each time.

I haven't needed to change anything with the software on mine in a couple weeks. Looking forward to checking out the tweaks you added :)

I think I just missed out on this batch but would some to see some photo updates on what that tower of walnut evolved into. Going to have some lookers in this batch! :brow:
