Discontinued Ghost MV1

When I first got it .... My nickle unit would overheat if I mouth pumped the draw and then removed my lips to to get fresh air to push the mouth vapor into my lungs. I would do that mouth pump 4 to 5 times per hit. I was using this approach on two red lights (High herb temp).

The advice I was given was that a steady inhalation without a break would eliminate the overheating. It worked. Mouth pumping using a high temp like that meant there was a lag in the draw where NO AIR was conditioning the temp/heater which was causing the overheating. Kind of like holding the heater button without drawing any air in.

Regardless of temp used, I haven't had any overheating since I changed to a steady inhalation.

My stealth unit has never overheated but that might be because I had already learned to use a steady inhalation before putting it through its paces.

@Your Highness, you should, just out of curiosity, try your old inhalation technique on that temp to see if it does overheat. You don't know that it definitely will as, beginning with the Stealth version, the vape & firmware has improved dramatically. Just a thought.

After updating the firmware I did give the nickle unit the mouth pump test and it overheated. Seemed to take an additional draw or two than before the firmware update. Haven't tried mouth pumping the stealth unit yet.

If you have an issue with flashing lights, I say just open up a warranty ticket straight away on GV website.

Thanks @Summer for help I went ahead.and logged a ticket....let you guys know what I find out!

Red lights flashing occasionally isn't something I would be alarmed about. If you can't get through any bowls because of it, there's a problem. But when a unit is working normally, red flashing lights is the unit's way of telling you to speed up your draw. I would push the limits of draw speed before getting CS involved. @Slightly Medicated uses long, heavy draws that seem to fully evacuate the heat, so no need for the protection software to kick in. But partial, or short and sippy draws are gonna leave too much heat in the system to have a session at that speed. If you're overheat protection only kicks in occasionally, you probably only need to speed up your draw a little bit to get rid of it forever.

Just want to be clear that it was never a one hit overheat....had to do the same type of hit over a span of 5 or more hits in a row.

I also tried the same type of thing on the stealth this morning out of curiosity and it wouldn't overheat. Got a little warmer than usual but not hot.

What's funny to me now is that I've learned that the the ghost works so much better with a steady, uninterrupted draw that I can't remember why I wasn't using it that way to begin with.

So if I understand correctly ....to avoid overheat speed up draw or stop drawing....I think now I am probably at my lungs limits and my draw slows due to that fact thereby creating too much backlog so to speak and cause overheat.....am I thinking about this right? Like I said I have just dealt with it......but if it is my draw and I can eliminate it well that would be grand!

Speed up your draw is correct. But if you stop your draw, and don’t let go of the button, you’re just dumping heat into the system.

That is a really good way to look at it. The faster the draw the less residual heat and the more the heater has to keep up. The less heat transfer you will have to other parts of the unit. That is the basic principle I use to not overhead my vapes when I power hit. You can also use that to your advantage. So far the GHOST has been pretty consistent in its heating algorithm.

Definitely helps with overheating. Mine overheated and long draws and opening the latch helped between whenever and as much as you want or think helps

Well after further review .....the play on the field is called not sure....although faster draw has.helped.....I still am having overheating a bit.....I am using red 1 =410 from start to finish and doing back to back crucible ....I would think overheating would occur doing that high all the time what do you guys think?

Nothing like @Brewervapesalot's overheating usage (inside joke:p).

Well, unless your draw is way off, I would think it shouldn't be overheating on even level 4 for 2 - 3 bowls. It's only, what, 18 draws at max. *Curious what other members think.

Anyway, I'd still run it by CS since you already have the open ticket.

And you might also want to bring up the sticking vape button. You mine as well make sure it's all right from the start. I believe your unit is a replacement unit?

I just keeping.pressing button until it responds.....sometimes I forget to check and it is.sitting on table and vibrates when it times out.....lol

Here is this from Virgil
If doing back-to-back sessions, allow your MV1 to cool down for 3-4 minutes before starting the second session. Remove the heat sink, the crucible, and open the chamber door during this cool down period.

Seems like a lot of work......

Was there ever a reported issues with overheating units?

I'm a microdoser so don't do multiple crucibles BUT for you big hitters:
why don't you have a second heat sink assembly to allow cooling time for the original? Every other rotation.
And obviously multiple crucibles so each is always cool to start.

It only takes 5 seconds to pop out/in a fresh heat sink assembly.
A complete heat sink assembly with mouthpiece is only $15

Over heating issue without a doubt, but can easily be address by the manufacturer
they should have perfected it first in the lab, before letting it loose on us consumers,
not along the way.

I have hit the overheating warning a few times. But it just takes a few minutes to cool down, and I don't have a problem waiting a few minutes.

I'm curious how quickly 2-3 crucibles are being done to create an 'issue' of overheating.

To cool quicker, it only takes a few draws of cool air to bring down the temp.

I've got the Stealth and I generally do 2 crucibles back to back. I start on Amber 3 and finish on Red 1. I don't really let it cool down in between and so far I've had no overheating . I haven't ever done 3 back to back. I may try that later and see what happens .
