Cloud Evo Tool Holder (Bamboo Protector)

After a few close calls with my bamboo I decided to design some bamboo protection. This project ended up doubling as a tool holder and eventually a couple other things.

aSwEbQ.jpg

THE TOOL HOLDER is held in place by tightly hugging the Evo while velcro keeps it from sliding off the heatshield. The top sits right above the bamboo so the Evo can take a fall without having to be sent in for repairs. It holds up to 10 baskets and/or tubes (can be customized with more or less holes). Each hole has a diameter of 13mm and can also have inserts for smaller diameter tools.

THE LID is for extra protection on the go or to reduce collecting dust at home. When the lid is not on the tool holder, it can be used as a hydrafoot or a stabilizer for the Evo. A male joint attachment is fastened to the lid (with a 3D printed nut) when being used as a hydrafoot. The heatshield's velcro slides thru slots in the lid to secure it to the Evo's feet when using it as a stabilizer. The stabilizer prevents air flow restriction (from clothing, blankets, etc) and helps prevent the Evo from tipping over.

This project is still a work in progress at the moment. I would love some help brainstorming and testing this prototype. Lemme know if you have any ideas and feel free to message me about testing inquiries / FC discounts. Links in signature.

Current Drawbacks:
-Glass/quartz tubes heat up passed melting point of PLA so they need a minute to cool off.
-Can't use Evo upside down on most glass pieces.

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
Like the idea of having a ring of tools and ELBs, maybe have a second ring, closer to the bottom half, just for ELBs.

You can borrow from this 'template' perhaps. I own one of these for my coleman tank type stove. But it gets used for the base of my EVO when the vape is not being used. The lip on it prevents the EVO from tipping over and having things get close to it. It really is the just right dimensions for the job, amazingly. The power switch and cord have just enough clearance as well. What luck!

You could print a bottom half where it could be recessed enough to have the feet slip into place as well, but a simple ring could be the less elaborate version. Or you could try to match the shape of the footprint of the EVO and have that going for it. Happy printing!

More room for tools/ELBs is never a bad idea @CuckFumbustion. I think I can picture that. So you mean a tool-holder/stand right? It's definitely possible but from the looks of it that Coleman stand might be slighly wider than my 3D printer's build plate (~200mm).

I like the way you think tho! I'll have to pick up a Coleman stand and give it a go myself. Anything to keep my precious bamboo from destruction :tinfoil:

Wow! You like it that much? Hope you find one somewhere. The angle and space seems to shield other things away from it. I've used mine for months. BTW. Happy hunting!

I was thinking more of your top design with the tool holes on top, but also have a second ring of tool holes closer to the bottom of the tool holder. There would only be space for ELBs for the ring. Maybe consider it the Deluxe version.

Now as for the lid, So 200cm is the limitation. :hmm: I'll think more about that. Extra stability. like my Coleman and the pluses of your design ideas. I use a Bottom half of a CD pack spindle for my HD. BTW. :freak:

Alright that makes sense. Tweaking the original design will be loads easier than a brand new stand  Not that the original lid/stand couldn't be modified for extra stability/protection.

Adding a ring to the bottom of the tool holder will add room for extra ELBs (or small tools) but could also make it harder to grab the Evo. Depending on how you handle your Evo of course. It could be as easy as installing an extra ring to the original tool holder, or a mod if you will.

Well 20cm actually ;) CD pack spindle to hold ur glass? That's a damn good idea! Keep the ideas comin!

If this tool holder ever gains traction, I'm gona look into some wood prototypes :brow: Even jus 1 for myself would be pretty sweet. Alot more $$ than it costs in filament to print tho that's forsure. I'm thinkin about it.

Print out the prototypes and make wood versions of ones that seem to work well. The whole 'design' process'.

For yourself, A wooden stand with all your considerations that you put into your design, but with the idea going in that it will be a fixed place as apposed to the base 'mod'. One consideration is cable management. Anything to tame that cord would be a plus. The fun part is it could be a personalized.

Another consideration for a stand, is a base that adds more weight to the bottom to prevent it from tipping.

Oh, I tend to put a lot of glass and weight above the EVO. In fact just a moment ago, I took that Coleman base and tipped it upside down and wear it on the EVO like a dog's 'cone of shame' or "Elizabethan" collar. The shame being the amount of glass adapters I break pulling them off the socket of my EVO. :bang:
Since the top of the EVO widens toward the center, the center part of the base catches on my heat shield as well as gripping the edge of my shield. Yea, you are right. You should get one for yourself @withoutbliss.

1 of these days I'll start working on a wood prototype. I would like to invest in a CNC router (wood 3D printer basically) so I can tweak each prototype myself instead of going thru a wood shop.

A better cable system would be great. I think the only way around this is a less bulky cable or no cable at all :whoa:. There are alot of possibilities with this project including personalization. Unfortunately my experience in 3D design is novice at best.

Weight definitely would help stabilize the Evo. I could easily design a new base piece for the original lid/stabilizer to hold onto that is much wider. With space to add weights in the center it would be the ultimate stabilizer for our ever so fragile Evos.

At least your breaking adapters and not bamboos
