The Nomad From Morwood

Flameo Hotman!
I had a nice surprise waiting for me yesterday. Didn't expect it to arrive until sometime next week but well, here she is in all her glory!

Like others have mentioned when receiving theirs, I'm somehow still astonished by the quality and feel of it after looking at all these pictures over time.

Second pic is with the custom blackwood stem from @Alan.

So now for the bad news, I won't be able to test this puppy out for another couple of weeks, most likely. I'm right in the middle of buying a new house and all my batteries and such somehow ended up in the storage unit. :(

More to follow as soon as I'm able...

That looks fantastic!
Thanks for posting pics, it's a great help to me with dealing with my craving for my unit

I love the glass stem , but Alans blackwood really adds something too, gorgeous.
I think it's the black spalting, and black details in the sleeve that tie it all together with the blackwood so well.

Well done again Dan, and I look forward to reading what you think of the function too superdang.

@superdang9000, Awesome! Looks amazing with that blackwood stem, the spalting really highlights it.

Just FYI, your sleeve is on backwards. The air hole on the bottom aligns with the heater module. When it's in the correct orientation, you'll notice that the stainless thumbscrew fits down into a hole that's on the inside of the wooden bottom plate. This makes it so you can slide the sleeve on all the way, and the entire unit should be a few mm's shorter.

Either way it's no a big deal, just thought I'd mention it!

Look forward to your thoughts when you get a chance to use it!

Flameo Hotman!
@Dan Morrison whoops, thanks for the heads up. I got the package just as I was heading out the door and hastily opened it up like a kid on Christmas... Didn't put much thought into anything, haha. But now I'm going through everything again along with the usage & maintenance manuals you sent over.

I couldn't be happier with how it turned out, and I'm super stoked to get some up close and personal time with it. :brow:

Thanks again man!

I received the magnetic button parts for my Batch 1 Nomad (#13) a few days ago, and finally had an opportunity to try it out this evening.....It works great!

I had some discomfort with the original spring setup, and am happy to say that the amount of pressure required with the magnets is very easy on the fingers. The possibility of failing to make contact (thus no heat/no vapor, which I sometimes found to occur) is also resolved.

I hadn’t used my Nomad in quite some time, and had forgotten how much I liked the vapor it produces. I expect I’ll use it much more now, as it’s definitely the best flavor-producer I own (the original Firefly competed on flavor, but was difficult to use and had a crappy battery.....I gave it away). I think the Nomad Batch 2 purchasers are going to be thrilled!

Installing the magnetic parts wasn’t technically difficult (hey, even I figured it out), but fiddling with the magnets was a real exercise in dexterity. Thankfully the Batch 2 folks won’t need to mess with that initially...only if it’s eventually necessary to clean the electrical contacts. Dan said making a tool to assist with this is on his to-do list, but in the meantime I’ll say that I just used a stick (Dan’s tamping tool, actually) to center the Delrin ring (you’ll know what I’m referring to when it becomes necessary). Besides, everybody must have a friend or partner with some dexterity, right? I kinda felt like it was a fun challenge anyway, and managed to complete the task without becoming frustrated, so it must not be TOO difficult....if you know me, you know that’s a big deal .

Dan also threw in a few extras (wood finish and sleeve wax, a tamping/unloading tool, and a couple of wood stem "'capsule" rings), none of which I’ve fiddled with yet. I’ll post something when I get around to them.

Stay happy!

Nomad # 36 is in Chicago! So incredibly jazzed it has shipped! I'll have it in a couple of days now. After I've received it and done some scientific testing in the lab, a nice, descriptive review is sure to follow. Stay tuned and I hope everyone has a great day! Also, Cheers! D.

Ps, thanks Dan!

Awesome to hear the next batch is hitting the streets. Some beautiful units heading out.
Glad the new button has helped you out @RelaxedNow
Been putting my Nomad through its paces with my new favorite mouth piece for it. It's a Blackwood piece by @Ed's TnT that was sent to be tested as an Imp mp, but since my imp has the early tapered body, this would not fit my imp.
But it fit in my Nomad, like a glove. The grooves are a great depth gauge too so I know how close the load is to the heater. A fury 2 dosing cap fit perfectly into the stem. I use it lid less with just a light tamp.
I have also removed the screen that I had in the Nomads body. Actually, that little bit of screen sticking out of the stem dislodged my inner screen, so I figured I'd try the nomad again without it and have liked the performance better without the inner screen. I've trimmed that excess screen to be flush, since.

Looking forward to hearing from the new Nomad owners as they receive their new beauties. :peace:

Lovely vape, and another great Ed's stem too:drool:

SJF, beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

As great as the Nomads look without any modifications, my guess is that we're going to be seeing some creative stuff going on.

I searched but gave up... any leads on stem color options?
I think clear is all that I've seen available from Dan, with wooden stems available from @Ed's TnT and @Alan .

My sleeve is the only thing left to be done on my Nomad.
I might be a little excited!

Relflecting...

I have 2 children....and this feels like I’m awaiting 3rd child....I’m in batch 2 and am 1 of 5 custom sleeves yet to be completed....for example this is constantly running though my head....what’s it gonna look like, what will it feel like to hold, can’t wait to get to know it, I already love it more than words and have yet to hold it...

Perhaps Dans update pics have been ultrasounds if u will....haha:wave::freak::mental:

Lord knows it’ll be treated with the same love a child deserves!!

Seriously can’t wait...

Disclaimer: I love my children more than vapes for the record...

I feel ya, friend. I'm in batch 3, so I still probably still have months to wait.
Not that I'm complaining about that, as I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.
Therefore I am both jealous and happy for you!:drool::cheers:

As someone that has never owned a vape with a separate stem, I'm curious how smell is a factor overall. To those that already have their nomads (or milaana, stempod, or similar), do you guys feel that the whole device picks up a smell after some time, or is it primarily the stem? Trying to decide whether I need a bag for the whole device or if a separate stem carrying tube would suffice (I try my best to be discrete...)

edit: also semi-unrelated, I was looking into those "bonsai" bubblers by bubblesthebutcher on IG, and man those would look great when paired with my nomad. Too bad (or maybe it's a good thing?) I'm broke

With my Millana's the device itself has practically zero smell with the stem removed (even the stem doesn't smell much when empty TBH).
I'd bet good money the Nomad is the same.

Nomad 27 arrived today! It's beautiful. I don't have a camera good enough to take any pictures that are worthy of it. I tried a bowl with the low power heater and it was okay, but I feel like the high power heater is really what I'm going to end up sticking with because it seemed much more intuitive to me.

@Kalessin , The three keys for the low power heater,

1. Draw slow, you think you're drawing slow? Go slower.
2. Draw long, 10 second draw min.
3. Fine grind, light tamp

Follow these and I assure you'll be rewarded with intense thickness.

If you're not using the wood bowl insert, the first draw can be more of a warmup, so don't wait too long before your first and second draw. With the wood insert, warmup is a lot faster.

@lieutenantlemons , Practically no smell.

I'm definitely gonna experiment more. Is there a maximum to how long I should hold down the button? I keep getting worried on my long hits with the high power heater that I might end up holding it down too long and overheating something.
