Discontinued Healthy Rips FIERCE

Just had another email from HR they say they testing two types of firmware before they decide which one works best ... I am curious to see if the new update will change the taste signature as the heater stay at set temp more ? Does it also mean there will be more conduction? Sorry I high and thinking :ninja:

Ooooh, I like the thought process here.

My guess, yes, it may affect taste for those of us that take larger/longer draws....but not from conduction.

I don't think there's much natural conduction being added now, as-is. A more consistent temp will increase it, but only fractionally if at all. We're all ready sitting at that temp before and in between draws, it's as heat soaked as it will get towards the end of a session.

Taste however, should be affected. If I start a draw at 430f, and it finishes at 360F, what temp was the average temp in that draw? If we use the mean of 395F, an algorithm that held the temp closer to set temp may see a 25F degree increase. Usually enough to change the taste in a convection vape.

So, now you'll be able to turn your temp down to preserve the flavor if that's your goal. Those of us looking for fast sessions can leave it set higher and compromise the taste.

It will no longer take me two sessions to finish a bowl, it will be the larger bowl version of the F2 I thought I was buying!

All hypothetical until they choose the algorithm, but great to kick around.

Hi All! We have a FIERCE update!

We want to assure you that we have been listening to you and we greatly value all of your input and feedback. You all help us make our products even better.

Our goal for over a year has been to offer the best portable vaporizer available at any price. We genuinely believe that we have accomplished this goal with our FIERCE. In our testing, we did not find the FIERCE to lack power. However, in Troy's video @ohmygodimsohigh, he stated that the heater was underpowered during long draws and dropping in temperature. We listened and this prompted us to do some more extensive testing focused on very long draws. Our findings: In our FIERCE, there is an air sensor that detects a draw/inhale and signals the heater to adjust up the temperature and prevent it from dropping during a draw. This sensor was not reacting fast enough and was allowing the heater temperature to drop. Our engineers developed two new versions of the firmware for us to test. With these versions, the air sensor now instantly signals the heater to make rapid adjustments upon the detection of a draw. So far, our testing shows no drop in the temperature during very long draws of 15 - 20 seconds with either version. In one test, we did back-to-back 20 second draws at 365°F and got massive vapor production from both draws.

We would like to continue to test both updated versions to see if one performs better than the other and to ensure that they are stable. We want this to be the final update needed on our FIERCE. The last thing we want to do is inconvenience our clients any further. We ask that you give us a few more days of testing before you ship your device for us to update. Everyone that has contacted us is on our ‘FIERCE Update’ list and will be receiving an email with instructions on how to ship your FIERCE for the update - once we have thoroughly tested these updates and confirmed our results. In the meantime, please continue to enjoy your FIERCE.

Please contact us if you have any questions or if you would like us to add you to our ‘FIERCE Update’ list:
healthyrips@gmail.com. We will reply to all emails on Monday.

Thank you in advance for your continued patience and support, you will not be disappointed!

That's the proper perspective, I think. It's only natural to want more faithful temp control and if the Fierce comes back making any better effort at that it'll only make it more fun to use.

I'm particularly interested in its vapor production at low temps since the screen in the bent stem has the draw resistance at a really good place these days.

Quick vid to show how much mine drops using UFO bubbler at 221c. Fully charged battery. To be fair the second vid not as bad still drops

I mean this in the nicest possible way.

@zippy after you pull the vaporizer off and clear the chamber, with the vaporizer out of sight in both videos I hear a series of clicks. Why? and why off camera.

I'm not calling you a liar please don't take it that way, but when your trying to prove a temp drop video and the vaporizer goes off camera, you hear clicks it seems suspicious.
Wouldn't you want to keep the vaporizer on camera at all times so there is no doubt no shenanigans of funny business is going on?

Your video prompted me to make a Fierce video to see how much the temp drops and how long it takes to recover. Sorry it is long I wanted to do it several times in a row.

Try and do a video one handed whist ripping it and then turn down one push and back up again ... What do you think I was doing in the few seconds it off camera, be impossible to get that to drop that quick off camera , no offence taken btw it's made me laugh... Maybe I do another video later after work to show it again

New video ... @Vape Dr.

It will probably give a higher chance of combustion depending on your herb, if it's too dry, you know

Can you explain why you think this?

Generally, regulated vapes shouldn't combust at all when working properly.

It's already hitting the temps, it's just not maintaining that temp throughout the draw. Keeping it at 430F and honking in it shouldn't cause it to combust.

I guess yeah. I just figured too much extended 430f might be a little too much for someone who has bud that's on the dry side

I resign, you're right

some vapes with the heaters down below the herb chamber " in the air path ETC..." can ignite if a piece falls through and hits the heater and then you inhale it back up into the bowl to ignite the rest of the load... I've had it happen on a davinci vape twice and it was pure toxic Yuk! the fierce / fury2 has an isolated air path away from electronics so even if a tiny piece fell in it would not ignite

Really? With DV? Where it's a straight conduction unit with the heater buried in the ceramic walls and isolated further by a layer of glass (glazing). The air input is maybe 1/4 inch long and completely exposed.

I can recall nobody reporting it on that thread, surely I would have noticed it and questioned it there as I just did here.

I'm not saying combustion is impossible in all vapes, of course, but can't understand it happening with DV, Fierce, F2 or any other such temperature controlled vape working properly.

Accidental combustion is a bummer for sure, I just don't see it as a threat here.

Did you really combust in a DV from debris falling through the bottom of the bowl?????

ha ha, not to derail this thread with davinci vape related issues but I assumed that is what happened twice... smolder and fire and it tasted like the worst hair taste ever, nothing like smoking cannabis at all and the bowl was charred ash after it happened , twice... I've never had it happen on any other vapes

Greetings to you all!
I am newly registered. I was lurking here and got plenty of information. I purchased my Firce before Christmas. I noticed the same heat drop what Troy described. I wasn't happy to see but thought this is how it meant to operate. (First session vape ever.)
So, as I was playing with the temp control it actually temp even without taking a hit from the device. Does this happen to you all?
I genuinely looking forward to that software update. As per said before. It will be nice to use on a lower temp setup.

I think it's pretty common for vapes to fluctuate a couple degrees. How much did yours drop just sitting there?

@Vape Dr. I'd love to hear an update on your Fierce. Does your temp drop when you press up/down after a long draw?

I don't know about that vape but a fury can have bits fall past the screen at the bottom, it still won't combust a whole load but if you use it alot then one day empty it and turn it back on at 430 degrees and don't put the mouthpiece back on then you get what looks like a small stream of smoke coming up but like I said it won't burn anything else.

Yep, can't combust. But that (combustion) was the OP's claim, and in a vape where it's just not possible for debris to contact the heater (buried in ceramic and fully isolated from any place debris can collect (minor as that is).

Important point is a correctly calibrated conduction vape 'never' combusts, no matter how hard you might try. Some can, of course, but not this class. FIERCE (this thread) and Fury (a different thread again) owner need not fear this and should, instead, enjoy their vapes.

Hi All! We have some very exciting news about our FIERCE firmware update! We sincerely apologize for the delay, we tested four different versions of the update over the last two weeks. We tested, tested, and tested again to ensure that the final update is exceedingly stable. We have our FIERCE so dialed-in now, it's insane!

If you are on our 'update list', you will be getting an email on Monday with instructions on how to get your FIERCE updated. If you are not on our list yet, please email us and we will gladly add you to the list: healthyrips@gmail.com. We realize that there were a couple of wrinkles in our initial FIERCE release - but we are extremely confident that there will be a lot of love for our FIERCE - especially now. It is a vapor beast (humbly speaking). ;)

Have an awesome weekend everyone!

@HealthyRips.com, your excitement is palpable. Feels to me that it borders on giddiness. :brow: :D

420vapezone's recent video where he compared 4 vapes, one of course being the Fierce, is what got me to put the Fierce on my wishlist. Looking forward to HR getting Troy getting a new updated unit so he can do a comparison video between the prior & this firmware versions, especially seeing a direct vapor output comparison.

Honestly, extremely refreshing seeing Healthy Rips so responsive and committed to customer feedback. Yes, the launch wasn't perfect, but I'm not sure I would expect so much effort being put into a product that was already released and not selling a V2 or something as a more expensive product. Then again, the vape market seems relatively small, so loyalty and reputation are probably very valuable to a company.

Thanks for the update!
