Fluxer Heaters, induction heaters for Dynavap

The thin red wire that lands on the PCB nearest the switch is the positive lead for the always-on green LED. The other thin red wire is the positive for the red LED. That is true for all PCB revisions.

Neither LED uses very much power, but it’s yours now, so if one or both LEDs bother you, feel free to clip its lead.

Updated to add a pic:

Thank you! Thats even better, I clipped the green led wire and the red led still lights while heater button is engaged, just the way I wished. Also lowered the temp, perfect!

Can please anyone say me the measurments of the flux deluxe, have done a quick search in the thread but I have nothing found. Thanks

And this feature for deactivating the LED is very cool. I like it more with the deactivated LED, it attracts less attention.

Can only reiterate what traveler said...
so sleek and solid, couldn't be happier, it really is a game changer (my 1st IH so excuse the enthusiasm).
only 2 caps (4 heat cycles each) so far. Super fast and efficient. The click is a bit muffled but there is a slight tactile movement when it clicks that you can feel if looking for it. Also very happy with 14mm choice.

Mr C's professionalism and attention to detail are second to none, for anyone on the fence its well worth the wait!:tup:

Mine both have two clicks about 2-5 seconds apart depending on how hot or cold the tip is. Clicks are Much closer together when using a torch.

So i added my name to the list.
I started watching this thread at the beginnings and forgot about it as i thought it would take a long time before we see a finished product.
I was wrong things really moved fast.
I re read the whole thread just encase i missed something and added my name.
I must say i like the look of the device but what really sold me is @mr_cfromcali work etiquette, pictures, how its made features and the whole feel and passion he has for his project.
And now:popcorn:

I'm already going through withdrawal. :)

I was kinda hoping that mine got done before his break, but guess im waiting a bit longer.:drool:

I'm sorry, @Tupak420 - and everyone else waiting their turn - but I ran out of time before I was able to complete yours. It's started, though (speaking only of @Tupak420 's ;)), and I expect to finish it quickly once I can get back in the shop. Sorry for the added delay; thanks for understanding.

To all: I have some family visiting starting tonight, so thanks for your understanding and patience while I put the Fluxer shop on hold for a week or so. I'll reply to this thread and answer email as my time permits, but I'm not going to have any access to my shop until 02/22. Thanks.

I am glad the latest crop of heaters are arriving safely and seem to be working well. Although my focus will be elsewhere next week, I'lll be back in the shop on 02/22.

Cheers,

Flux Deluxe number 36 checking in.
I am one of the first with the new 15mm coil.
As I also own a Portside Mini, I've decided to compare the two and write up my findings.

For those of you who disagree with my measurements; my apologies.
My calibers came from Harbor Freight, my scale from Amazon and the stop watch courtesy of Windows 10.

I have tried to be as objective as possible with each of the tests. However as each of these units are hand-built and your choice of batteries may be different from mine, YMMV.

comparison-Table.jpg

While both units are similar in size and weight, the Flux Deluxe just feels more compact.
This may be because the dark green Alpinetech aluminum 1590B enclosure is more expensive and esthetically pleasing case.

With the included bag, I would most likely grab the Flux Deluxe if I was leaving the house to go out with friends for the evening or on a trip away from home.

However, the black silicone band on the Flux Deluxe is both good and bad.
Good because if the band wasn’t installed on the case, the lack of feet on the unit would scratch my coffee and end tables.
Bad because with the black band on the case, the Flux Deluxe teeters a bit on a table when being used.

For home use; I would most likely go to the Portside Mini as the location of the IH coil makes it taller and easier to reach when on the coffee table. I also like that the red IH indicator leds are integrated onto the glass tube.

Each of these units appears to be well made and each will make a fine Induction Heater for the Dynavap. Each unit will have a proud place and frequent usage in my home.

For the engineers among you, here are some details on the Flux Deluxe

Flux Deluxe
Dimensions:
Height = 4.425” (112.4mm)
Width = 2.382” (60.5mm)
Depth = 1.22” (31mm)

Accessories:
12V charger, Plug-in better than nothing battery gauge, black silicone band and bag storage bad.

Weight:
Without batteries 8.0 oz (228 grams)
With batteries: 12.95 oz (368 grams)

Observations:
Exterior:
Choice of colors of Alpinetech aluminum 1590B enclosure.
The holes on the case are countersunk.

Unit has a clean look.
Cover is attached with magnets.
During my use the magnets alone kept the cover on.
The cover has an indent to facilitate opening. I found that I didn’t need to use the indent to take the cover off.

As the on/off button is located inside the case, the only exterior protrusion is the charging status led.

The exterior of the case has one hole drilled for glass insert and four additional smaller holes were drilled for heat dissipation.

Where the openings were drilled and the edges were deburred, bare aluminum is showing. For me, this visually deters from the clean lines. I’m going to have to find a green sharpie to touch up the holes (Sorry I'm OCD).

While there is no external magnet for the Dynavap, any one of the corner magnets holds the Dynavap fine.

Interior:
14 awg wire makes up the coils along with a 1.3mm thick glass tube.
Glass tube appeared to be hand-cut and had a rough edge to it.
Note: If I hadn’t taken the glass tube out to measure the coil ID, I would not have noticed this.

ID of coil is 15mm.

Heating of Dynavap is done using a momentary switch that is wired to the exterior case led; green indicates switch has been turned on, red indicates Dynavap is being induction heated.

Momentary switch has a Pyrex (glass) screen on top of switch for protection.

Battery:
Uses (3) 18650 batteries. Unit does not come with batteries.
For my tests I used the following: (3) 3.6V LG HG2 18650 20A 3000mAh lithium-ion Battery, fully charged.

After listening for the click on both units and using the Dynavap, the resulting AVB from both units was similar:

Great write-up and comparison. Glad I'm going with the 16mm with the Temp control.

Thanks for the update and no worries on the delays. Pretty sure I would have had mine by now if I stuck with my original selection. I mentioned before that the longer I wait, the more features I end up getting so no complaints here.

Received my Heater today. First Induction Heater I have ever used and my first impression is “WOW”. Looks Great, smaller than I expected which is a good thing. Works better than it looks. Bye bye lighters...
One more time Thanks Mr C...

Nice info, @DeeCee5, thanks! How about adding a battery life comparison? From what I've read the FD should go a lot longer between charges. That was a big draw for me.

And I like the contrasting unfinished edges on the holes. They're like little stylish accents. Different strokes, right?

Disclaimer: This is not a complaint.

So this morning I turned on my FD to do a cap before leaving for work, and the first clicked worked fine, but as I was vaping, I noticed that there was some vape/smoke coming from the heating tube. It was hot to the touch so I was fairly sure that the coil didn't turn off after the switch was unpressed.

I flipped the switch but the problem came back, talked with Jeff and he is going to fix it asap. He said there was a bad MOSFET in the power relay that could be the possible cause.

The only reason I am posting this is a safety thing. Make sure to pay attention if the unit keeps getting hot. I also think it was the reason I managed to drain 3 batteries in a single day on Wednesday which was surprising.

Just stay safe out there folks. These are very very powerful devices that have very powerful heating elements in them. Don't get complacent with safety checks just because the Dynavap is a metal tube that doesn't require any safety checks (other than burning your fingers on the hot end lol!)

Thanks for posting that, Mario.

I may not be able to participate in this thread much today, but please, do a regular safety check: with the unit is turned on, insert the dynavap but don’t press anything to activate it. If it clicks from being heated, it has a bad power relay MOSFET, and you’ll need to send back to be fixed.

That’s all I have time to post now. But please, be safe and use good safety practices.

The Chinese SJK heaters also failed to the "on" position. It wasn't the mosfet that failed, it was a relay but, nevertheless, I have to wonder why it isn't standard design to have a circuit fail to the "off" position rather than the "on". I freaked out when mine failed to the on position, albeit, I am fire paranoid so it probably bothered me more than it would most.

Still, having a circuit design that will [or could] catch fire and burn my house down just doesn't seem right.

I always turn my power switch OFF when I am not sitting right at the unit using it.

mosfet is a relay, like an electronic switch.
When they fail they stick in the on position (probably or possibly or should that be maybe)
Can stick in the off position too.

@Moses Baca I have only owned the FD for two days, so it is too early for me to give battery comparisons between the FD and PS Mini. I plan to post my battery findings in the future when the FD gets more use.

That said, I find for my use (which is typically nightly dosing, the PS Mini lasts 7 - 10 day before it needs to be recharged.

@mario and @mr_cfromcali. Just my :2c: on my experience with my new FD.
The first two or three times I used the FD yesterday, I did see some wisps of smoke from the VapCap when being heated.
I'm thinking that maybe whatever is used to attach the pyrex button to the switch was outgassing, because I am not seeing any wisps of smoke using the FD today.

I performed the Safety check listed above, "with the unit is turned on, insert the dynavap but don’t press anything to activate it." The dynavap did not click and was not warm.

Hi @odc57
February 15 to February 22: We have some family visiting next week (well, beginning Feb. 15th and continuing into the end of the following week) and as a result I do not expect to get any project work done from about Feb. 15 to Feb. 22.

Ah, I sent an email to check on things, but I should have went here first! No worries... just looking forward to getting my Fluxer!
