The Nomad From Morwood

Shit Snacks

Milaana. Lana. LANA. LANAAAA! (TM2/TP80/BAK/FW9)
@Shit Snacks

Your Nomad was before the magnetic button, and so it would have been sent out with the stock spring. I wonder if that has something to do with your experience. It's possible that not making good button contact with the stiff spring was responsible for your inconsistent results. But maybe not either, we do all have our preferences and in comparison to the regulated vaporizers on the market now, I wouldn't say that the Nomad is user friendly out of the gate.

Included with your Nomad would have been a little maintenance and cleaning kit, along with the in-body SS screen.

If you'd like the parts to convert your button to the magnetic 'spring', I'll send em out to you. Super easy to put the magnets in there and have a much lighter pressure to the button.

End of January is expected ship date for Batch 2. All Nomads have their stem collars, buttons, final finish, and most sleeves are ready to wrap/paint. Connector bridges and Heater Modules are all that's left to do.

Everyone will be getting the magnetic buttons.

Y'all know when I'm putting in the long hours, haha :science:

Ah! Yes it is certainly possible the contact was never 100% I guess if the magnet upgrade is that significant and simple to do myself I might as well, huh? Thanks Dan! Hope everything is going well for you this winter, exciting that the second batch is almost ready!

Yeah. I have my mockup picture to keep me company in the meantime, and the fine people here who've been allowing me to vicariously live through their reported experiences.

Dope Stem collar and designs, really love the minimalistic green mushroom sleeve! What exactly did dan do for your collar?
The collar is going to be hand-shaped/carved according to Dan due to the fact it isn't symmetrical like the standard collar. It'll be made from verawood which has a green-ish hue and has little inlays which will be made from both vegetable ivory and canary wood (the white and yellow bits in the mockup, respectively). The whole idea behind this nomad is a mushroom/fungus theme so those inlays seemed appropriate as they almost look like fungus growth on the side of a tree to me.

I love that mushroom sleeve as well!

This is absolutely beautiful. I didn't do much for mine- just picked a sleeve and left it at that. I'm sure I'll be happy with mine but some of these artistic arrangements like this are wonderful.

Mockup for Nomad #059. Went with a bit of a different stem collar and getting 2 different sleeves and am super excited for it. What do you guys think?

Pricing starts around 300 IIRC and goes up with more exotic wood, more customization etc...

Wait time, if you get on the wait list now your grandchildren might get one.
 Thought that might be the case, and it just adds to my desire to own one, thanks for the reply!

Wood stem #2 from my man @Ed's TnT arrived over the weekend and I am very glad to say this one seems to be a home run! Super snug and tight fit this time which is great and it looks super nice to boot. Length of the stem is substantially longer than the glass stems also, haven't had much of a chance to try it out yet but hoping that will help with cooling the vapor down a bit. Here she is:

Hey hey guys, really nice to see the stem in the unit @sixstringsmash thanks for the post bro. I have really enjoyed creating this piece and appreciate the info in the beginning @Dan Morrison I have bumped the OD up bout .01" to give it a little extra snug fit. I have also recessed a larger ID and shoulder within the lower portion of the stem where a screen will seat flat and secure. I put that bead just below the MP/14mm so if there is a slight gap between the stem and in the unit then the bead will close that gap. I would really like to get a unit in hand and have a want ad in the classified section here hoping I can score one.

Just began working with another dealer, a great friend of mine for many years and am working on the first order with him and have bout a dozen and a half of it being Nomad stems in Cocobolo and Blackwood. He should have them in a couple weeks and be available soon after.

I appreciate everyone enjoying my work and look forward to doing more. Wish you all the best!

BTW @Dan Morrison You do amazing work bro, I have always admired your pieces and have done so for a long time, your burls are outa sight!

@Ed’s TnT I may be interested in one of those when my Nomad’s done (months away still), and I’d say pick one up if you can, but just so you know Dan’s only on Batch 2 right now so there are only ~25-30 in use right now with another 30 probably shipping soon.

Just keep that in mind when you estimate how many stems you’ll need right now. Since they use glass stems by default and a lot of people may like a more durable option you may still sell a good amount of them though. :)

Oh, and not having been able to try a Nomad yet I don’t know how well the glass or wood stems cool the vapor, but that’s my only real concern about it. If you have any ways of cooling it beyond making an extra-extra long stem, it might be worth a shot.

I’ve seen some stems with a drill-bit-like spiral up the inside of the stem making the air path longer, but I don’t know how well that would work with a wooden stem (cleaning might be hard unless it was removable) or if it’s really necessary with the Nomad.

Any current users have thoughts on that?

Its a nice stem but personally I still prefer the look and nice clean lines of a glass stem as opposed to the wooden ones pictured.
I like em both.
And the stainless stems.
I'm definitely going to turn myself a couple of wood ones.
I've started a bocote one, but am waiting for the Nomad itself before finishing, to ensure a good fit which doesn't shrink.

I reckon a blackwood one would look really dope, I'll have to look for a blank or two.

Number 026, the first finished Nomad out of the gates. It's really happening now! So pumped to get all the others wrapped up and photographed this week!

This guy is complete with a custom button cover. The cover smoothly swivels in and out of the way, for a quick way to lock and unlock your Nomad if you don't want to use the stock locking mechanism.

The cover is attached to the glass stem with a tight O-Ring seal, and can be removed anytime.

Also featuring the new sleeve finishing method that I introduced for this batch. The Chiyogami is first saturated with acrylic medium to "plasticize" the paper. The paper is then pasted onto the kraft sleeve. It's then finished with another layer of medium to protect the inks and gold leaf. The result is better stain/moisture resistance and wearing properties without adversely affecting the look and feel.

Wow, that's a truly lovely bit of 'belt and braces' pocket safety there Dan, well done.
Reminiscent of the covers seen on some of your smoking pipes.
I bet it will look even better once the copper develops a patina.

EDIT:
Or is it bronze?
