Thank you dude! I just checked and it looked like there was a contact point on that part of the coil. I used a toothpick to correct and quickly fired it up at 15W and no more glow or apparent hot spot. I fired it dry but I’ll try it again tonight with a load. Thanks for the tip!

I'll take the opportunity to use your example for our weekly safety reminder, but please don't take it as if it was aimed at you in particular.

You see guys, this is precisely the kind of situation where if he was using a mechanical mod (i.e. with zero electronics nor regulation) it could have been a potential disaster. It's pretty easy to create partial shorts like that on rebuildable attachments. When this happens, and especially on such a tiny fraction of the coil loops, you are basically shorting your cell.

This can easily overload the cell and exceed its maximum discharge current rating. The cell gets hot pretty quick and when it reaches the critical point, it enters thermal runaway and vents, catch fire or worse explodes.

Bottom-line: never ever use mech mods, they are not worth the risk and are not necessarily that much cheaper than regular mods nowadays.

I ordered two pre-release models for my partner and I and they arrived yesterday. I have no experience with box mods at all, but the price and the on demand convection aspect really appealed to me - it was exactly what I was looking for minus the extravagant price tag. I've been reading a lot here and I spent last night getting the settings dialed in. Managed to combust twice but that was my own fault. I think I understand how it's all supposed to work now. Still getting to grips with it but so far I'm impressed! The hits are so smooth, I hardly cough at all even at higher temps, unlike with my boundless cf which I now realise is quite a harsh vape. I really like the cooling stem but even with the normal glass stem it's super smooth.

I'm using a Wismec P80 with Arctic Fox Firmware. Have played around with TCR and Wattage mode so far and I think I prefer TCR. My settings atm are: TCR: 180 Temp: 170C-200C (around 185 being the sweet spot) 20W resistance locked in at 0.212. Think I copied these settings from someone here and went from there to customise to my tastes/my specific mod but it seems to be working great at the moment. I feel like I've still got a lot to learn when it comes to box mods but I'm really happy with my purchase, it looks beautiful too.

Thanks to everyone who supported this venture, i couldn't have done it without you.
The positive comments are really gratifying, i really like the Imp but i know i am jaded. your feedback is enormously appreciated.
@BlueRidgeGreen the position of the inlets relative to the coil is something i want to investigate more. Your comments are in line with my experiences. At first diagonal seemer best but them i got great results perpendicular. One time i had a hot spot and adjusted the inlets and it became very even.
Lots more to learn but the good news is we have a vape that works and hopefully it will just get better

Is anybody tried my mod? since I load in the Imp body and not anymore in the stem (using a custom stem I made using the one I got with my Project by Pipes) I get the most satifying sessions I got in a 510 dry herb atty. Taste is still awesome but big clouds are easier to get without to scorch anything, stirring is so easy and, maybe, even useless. I always got the impression I wasted some bits of flowers using the load in the stem method since I always got a green and black abv if I didn't stirred enough... and was spilling some more bits too while stirring (I don't own the stirring collar Dave made). It's trully a game changer for me!

Got my imp, didn't realize it was coming with a wooden stem/wpa, very happy about that. I really like the stem with glass spheres in it. It looks cool and I like the idea, can't wait to try it out.

I appreciate the wooden washer that came with it too. I LOVE the purple heart, thank you @mistvaporizer for making this.

Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to try it, I've just had time to admire it:

Edit: It also came with a 3rd glass stem with no spheres inside and some screens and other goodies not pictured.

Loading directly into the body instead of the stem has potential. I worried about getting the vape "dirty". Do you have any problem with the screen or inside being hard to clean

I would be concerned about the inside of the imp getting dirty and making stem removal more difficult.

I'm about to get my IMP within the few days,
How do you control it with 'Arctic Fox'? only VW? no TC at all in configuration? only power?
thanks

Loving mine so far

Setting the TCR to 185 and adjusting the resistance has worked well with all the mods I've tried.

Locking the cold ohms and adjusting the TCR or M number has worked best for me with different attys on FJ's firmware. My Imp ohms are .196 and I'm using a 215 M setting.

Just ordered an Imp. Where is a good place to order an Evic v2 mini or something similar that will work well with the Imp? TIA

Here is where I've gotten my last two. They carry legit batteries too.

They look to be all out of stock of the linked item. Do seem to have the 75w version which I'm sure will work the same.

Check for different colors. Last one i got they were out of black but had blue. Joyetech stopped making the vtwo so the only ones available are from folks that have stock.
Start in power mode at 16 w. When you are ready get Tubo firmware it is awesome. Thank you @funkyjunky
@sickmanfraud i have the same concerns about getting the vape dirty which is why i have not tried it

Sorry about that everybody, I linked the wrong one.
It is this 75 watt one you want. They do have those in stock as you said.

Glad to see a bunch of Imps about to hit the wild. Love my little Imp. The 14mm stem is a nice dose size and the heating coils do an excellent job and respond nicely to the mod.
The wood grain on the Imp is beautiful and it almost looks like it was from the same piece of wood as the mod box cover.

Who else here works with TCR? Arctic Fox?
What settings you've got? TCR 160, 190~C (and then raising from device) 30W?

Clean those stems

Top pic is the dirty stem next the clean stem
Put the dirty stem in cocoa peppermint almond creamer mixed with almond milk. Microwave 3 minutes at half power and then take the stem out and rinse with water.
Then drink your cocoa!
Thanks to @antispleen he taught me this trick. You can use regular milk if you like.
I drank the cocoa half hour ago just starting to cruise

After several loads I can't say the "bowl" to be dirty at all, I think it might happen in a conduction vape cause heat come from the wall but it doesn't seems to happen so much with a convection vape.

My temp increased since I now use 450-470°F, I didn't noticed any coil resistance change, although I use a different mp which allows more airflow than the previous one, I use now a short 14mm gong but the 14mm joint is the mouth side and the other side (just a sliced glass tube) is plugged in the imp with the help of a couple of silicon o-ring for the fitting. This is make the Imp a very low profile since only the 14mm glass joint outstrips from the Imp.

Sorry for the back to back post but I forgotten to mention I'm looking for an internal sleeve made of metal, glass or wood to avoid the issue mentionned above.

My Imp arrives today!! I'm stupid ready for it...

Quick question... has anyone tried a Storz & Bickel dosing capsule in their Imp? Seems like it would fit. Maybe with too much room to spare?

I tried getting them to work in my Square, and they did, but the impact on flavor was way too much. Just curious... the convenience is hard to deny.

The S&B capsules are too big, won't fit into the body of the Imp as is, and the Fury 2's dosing caps are too big for the stems.
With some slight sanding, @PPN could get an S&B cap in the body to be the internal metal sleeve, so to speak, for the way he chooses to use the Imp.
So it is almost time for the Imp to be moved from the unreleased section with them now available on the site. Amirite @Stu ?
