I've recently "adopted" a LB on kijiji for 40 CAN from a gentleman that owned it for two weeks and found it wasnt for him.

The only issue the box had was a dirty screen and 1 burnt out battery. After cleaning the screen with a brush and a burn off cycle and iso with a Q tip with the box facing down. The screen was only slightly discolored and was also slightly worn on the two contacts.

Since having it for two weeks I havent combusted any load, even with me doing small loads of keif in it I still haven't tasted the scorching flames of combustion.

I do have experience with other manual vapes and I've combusted on all of them atleast once with them. So I feel weird that I've had no issues with the box even though I let it heat up for almost 10s and sip and let it build up and sip a couple times before turning over the load before getting another few sips. I can get the abv dark brown but no burning. I know this is a good thing but I'm curious if my LB is running at a lower heat than others or if I somehow have the perfect teqnique right off the hop?

Either way it's a fun ritual vape that I use along my Vapman and Dynavap.

Either way I wish I would have gotten this unit a lot earlier in my vaporizer journey instead of getting a wispr or the hammer :/ again, I love this vape!

As always 420 in the 204

@KidFated. I saw a performance boost right after I cleaned along the contacts. Since I couldnt live with just one battery I got a pack of rechargeable energizer batteries. The label and the glue came off with ease.

I wasnt expecting it to be a power house, I just thought I would combust atleast once as a mistake. That's why I thought/think that its not running as hot.

Glad you like your 'new' LB. Not to worry, that's quite normal. As is it for new owners......I bet if you checked back you'd find something like half the new owners question if their box is defective and 'running cooler'. AFAIK not a single one was. It's easy to think so, obviously.

The LB has very little heat energy to use. Generally impossible to combust since the insulation is so poor (heat leaks away quickly in many directions) and heating only happens in that tiny fraction of the load actually in physical contact (no oven to build up heat in over time), basically unlike any other vape?

This is why you need fully charged batteries, fine grind, very dry herb and need to 'shake, shake, shake' between hits.

You're right, 'everyone should have a LB'. Or two.....

Regards to all.

If by "I cleaned along the contacts" you're talking about where the mesh is welded to the two rods that run down the sides (rather than the real contacts which are inside), DON'T EVER DO THAT AGAIN. If you read through this thread, guys have wrecked their units this way. Lots of them. Stay away, residue here is benign, disturbing the fine welds to the mesh is fatal to the box eventually as the adjacent to the break carries the overload. Over time it kills the box.

Keep the load very dry going in and it will not foul. And it will vape faster and better since you won't be wasting that modest power drying out your stash?

Forget Energizers, they've been tested to death. Too much internal resistance for the Box. At one time these were the best alternatives, there may be others:

The best, hands down, are the 'factory' units from MF (go figure), you really should consider them?

@OF I swear you are everywhere! Fan of almost all vapes or maybe just the good ones? Lol next time I go to buy a new vape i gotta check the forum to see if you've posted on its page :p

Naw, I only post to threads where I have first hand experience (except GH.......). I just tend to portables? I try to be honest, of course, but just because I don't post about any given vape doesn't mean it's suspect, let alone lame.

You've obviously got great taste in vapes if you end up agreeing with me.......

Sometimes, like with VC, I tried and couldn't get it to work for me, no fault of the machine of course. Others seem to like it very well. Likewise I don't expect the average Joe to find VapMan as cool as I do. We're kind of a strange lot over there, really.......

Thanks for what I take as a complement, glad to help when I can. As do so many others here 'bouts.

Regards to all.

The only time I've combusted the MFLB was waiting too long before drawing. The suggested technique is to wait 3 to 5 seconds once you engage the battery to allow some vapor to start. If I waited 10 full seconds with a fresh battery I would expect to combust. Of course it depends on how you count off those seconds. Some folks count off 10 seconds but if checked against a stop watch it would be around 5 seconds.

The MFLB isn't a great cloud maker for me but it gets the job done beautifully. And nothing makes my herb last like the MFLB.

I agree it's an awesome vape when stealth is required, but i ocassionally still use it at home for its unique signature. It really hits hard if you have the time to really work on a trench.

If you are looking for cheap readily available batteries down under, i have found the ladda batteries from ikea (about $8-10 AU for a 4 pack) are very good.

They are made in japan so probably original 'real' earlier generation eneloops, (branded eneloops are now made in china for the au and Asian market. Basically no matter what brand, any AA battery made in Japan will be top quality and probably be an eneloop-that is made in the fuji factory... anyway i digress, sorry)

The Ladda perform better than the very old powerex i have, and even the higher capacity xxx eneloops i have, which were older but fairly lightly used.

I also cut the wrapping with a razor blade only removing as much as needed so the battery still has most of its protecive wrapping. It still looks like a normal battery this way.

Edit- past to present tense...i still have the xxx batteries

@204Markie i also feel the need to fill the trench, but then i have come back to the same trench hours, days, even weeks later until it's finished. ..

2nd edit- before @OF corrects me:lol: that would be Fujitsu and FDK corp, not fuji

My LB’s are usually doing outside work preferably around nature. Last night while at home I took some dry Sativa, ran it through the finishing grinder and filled the trench. One glorious native pull with the heat just teasing my tongue, and the terpenoids explode from such a short vapor path with the results being a totally enveloping vape signature. One and done for thirty or so minutes.

I'm debating if I wanna buy a lazer etched cherry or walnut since I know I like the product. It's cheaper to buy from the website since Canadian suppliers charge extra for anything NOT maple. So hopefully they do free shipping at 100+ to Canada. I tried emailing @magicflight though i havent received a responce. I know not everyone does it but I do know that some people like @vapman does free shipping to anywhere I believe.

@204Markie Yeah one drawback with Magic flight has always been the outlandish shipping costs even to the USA. . . If trying to buy smaller items the shipping is often nearly equal to if not more than the item.,

I tried to pick up a tin and brush not long ago but stopped short when I saw the shipping cost. . . since everything was in the cart and they had my info they sent an email reminding me that I hadn't completed checking out and offered Free Shipping to urge me to do so. Maybe they'll do the same for you.

I still love my Launch boxes. . . hope to always have one in rotation.

Thanks for the tip. I just picked up a 4 pack ($6.99 US) and they work very well. Only complaint was the adhesive residue after removing the battery jacket/label; had to bring out the Goo Gone to clean them up.

Quick question . My LB has been neglected for a long time . I loved that thing and had a great technique , but I found cap caps and haven’t looked back . So now I want to give the LB some love , but need some good batteries . Is there a difference between the regular batteries and the gold batteries ? If one is better I would like to go that route . Thanks !!

I really like the Gold magic flight batteries a lot. . .

someone recently gave me four cells that are sold as " Ultra magic flight 2950 mAh batteries" that they bought off ebay. . . they run pretty hot and are the closest to using the PA while using a battery that I've experienced.

Hands down, the best available 'battery' is being offered by MF. Order the latest from them (they upgrade from time to time), you won't regret it.

I believe this , I still have the OG batteries that came with my LB 7 years ago , they still work but are a little weaker . I will definitely but from Magic Flight . Thanks for the responses!!!

I concur that the magic flight gold batts are very good, almost as strong as a P.A. I really enjoyed my cough free recovery from hernia surgery using the small MF orbiter and really taking small hits. My 14yr old cat seemed mesmerized by the bubbles in the orbiter, sitting right there enveloped by vapor. The two days of abstinence made him cry for a hit!? I think that my cat may be habituated to second hand vapor. He meows endlessly until I vape a little, then he settles down and nods off.

Is it possible for someone without a lot of knowledge to make a power supply for the LB?

I know (thanks to this forum) that it draws 15 amps. I tested the current PS I have, at the lowest setting it puts out 1.35v and maxed out it is 1.95v. I have a 12vdc 30a power supply from my old RC racing days for charging batteries. This PS is a bit larger than I would like, but I have found 12v 15a power supplies for laptops that are fairly reasonably priced. I know you can add a resistor to drop the voltage, but I would like to add a potentiometer also to have it adjustable. Is this something I could build myself, if so what would I need to make it? I have a job coming up that will put me close to a couple of good electronic stores that would probably have anything I need to build it.

I don't want to give up on my LB for home use, but I'm not buying anymore of their PS which I've found to be completely unreliable.

Probably not. In the early days of MFLB even THEY couldn't do it well. I wasn't here in the earlier MFLB days but I bet there are a bunch of early posts here about all the troubles they had creating the power adapter.

They still can't do it right!

It seems to me that it's a matter of volts and amps. I think their problem was making it small enough to be convenient, which I'm not so concerned about.
