Puffco Peak

I’ve had mutiple issues with atomizer performance being sub par but most of it for me was not understanding how finicky the atomizer can be. All this is real basic stuff but slight variations in how the atomizer is installed can really affect performance. For me it was you making sure the ceramic bowl is really on the heater. I know that seems obvious but sometimes I think bowl is centered and it isn’t and the way I know is performance is less. I also see if the bowl tips when on the heater if push my finger gently down on it I can feel when its secure. I also check three arms are resting evenly on ceramic edge and when I put the cap on it’s level and clicks. Also in the past I wouldn’t screw the atomizer in correctly because I wouldnt install it on a level surface so the pin contact wasn’t great it makes a click when it is in the threads. The way I knew I was doing something wrong was I would try an atomizer out of the box without taking out the bowl and performance would be much better. Anyway hope that helps.

I have found that the SP SiC works best for me with std peak atomizer on green or red, depending upon the concentrate being used. I do use it like a dab rig—I let it preheat, vibrate, and then drop in my concentrate. Depending upon load size, and then use a second heat cycle.

i got a third atomizer from a buddy that actually works decently. i finished a dab on green with stock bowl earlier where I'd be struggling to get anything really with the other 2 atomizers.

i also got the beads from eq, wasn't sure how they'd be, but definitely a fan. less pooling for sure.

mostly using stock, struggling to get consistent result from SP SiC dish... i don't wanna buy more atomizers and don't think puffco will replace the 2 i have since they sorta work.

edit: debating on trying that opaque bottom insert from eq. anyone have experiences with it?

God damn, DON'T BUY A PEAK! These things hit nice, but they are the biggest pieces of shit and Puffco really doesn't want to stand behind all of these lemons.

My THIRD BASE DIED , This one was my sisters it no longer charges. My last one was sent back due to loss of haptic feedback and short battery life. I'm on my third and she is on her second base, WTF. I got this one for her in June and it's already dead, and she doesn't even use it daily. I sent proof to Puffco and they said that if I lost the receipt then they cannot help me. Even though it's got a year warranty, and it hasn't even been out for a year.

So hopefully I can dig through things and find the original receipt for this POS so they will repair it.
I"m glad I have a switch too,I just wish it was smaller. But the Peaks are not dependable at all. I don't expect many V1 Peaks to be around in 3 years. Just some advise if you are about to purchase, check out the Switch instead.
If you already bought the Peak, baby the shit out of it and keep your receipt! you will need it when it inevitably breaks.

I'm on my 2nd base and it took a bit of back and fourth to have it replaced . Check this out - http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/carta-by-focus-v.35872/ , seems promising , does both dry and concentrates , looks like a peak also and has replaceable batteries , only problem is I got 2 Peaks and custom glass now for it.

Knock on wood but I don’t hear anyone else with these base problems (speak up and correct me if I’m wrong). Are you following the instructions, abusing the thing at all?

Someone was asking about EQ opaque bottom insert. Have not used it but I do have a crystal star quartz fully opaque. This MF hits like a champ, sometimes too hard on even green. So I load it with the mini beads covering the bottom on green. To me it reduces the heat and makes it hit just right for the fat cloud. Haven’t even attempted in a higher setting. EQ makes some good stuff so please tell me if you get one and lemme know how it is.

My base wouldn't hold a charge (I had a pre-order unit) talked to someone from puffco at the CHAMPS show and was told they were aware of the issue so just email when I got home and all would be well..... Sadly instead I was treated like I've never touched technology and questioned every step of the way like everything was my fault. Finally, I was done and a friend said he wanted it and that was that.

Would you all recommend a dr dabber switch instead? Looking to get myself a gift
I’m not sure anyone can answer that. Everyone loves and hates both devices lol. As time goes on I’m sure they’ll get much better. I can say that I’ve seen a TON more after market parts for the Peak vs the Switch.

No abuse, just issues that are to be expected I suppose. There have been several different issues with different bases. My first base had the haptic feedback go out in it. Then the second one wouldn't hold a charge. This one is an issue with the actual USB charging port going bad, The batteries were still good I just couldn't get the USB cable to make contact to charge it unless I held it just right. These aren't a big deal until after a year is up...then it really sucks.

My biggest issue with all of this is that Puffco is looking to get out of fixing units they should WANT to fix. They should want the first adopters of the Peak to be happy and praise it. Since they know even the very first purchasers couldn't get it until Feb. or March 2018 at the earliest, why are they claiming that the 1 year warranty may be up on units and trying not to fix them under warranty? That's just shady, every single unit is still under warranty, why would they try and pull that?

At the end of the day, I actually still love my Peak, and I did have my receipt so I have a new base on the way to me right now.

While it has been gone I have been using the hell out of the Switch, damn it's nice too. I could get by without one or the other but they are both nice to have. That being said after the 1 year warranty is up, and my base inevitably breaks or no longer charges, I will just repair it myself if possible or go without it. With the Switch and things like the Carta on the way hopefully things will continue to evolve.

I still love my Peak. LOL

Been using my buddies Peak lately and I still think it's pretty dope! Love those uptemp hits.

This thread makes me scared to buy one though.

I feel like its probably an ideal device for someone that takes a dab or three a day, but maybe not quite rugged enough for the all day enail ripper.

I got a Peak a few weeks ago. So far I’m super happy with it. I’m probably jinxing it though. I just got the PB quartz inserts and bubble cap so I’m looking forward to trying those, my first PB glass. I’ve never been a big dab person but I feel like this is a device that will bring lots of people to it. Especially with all the 3rd party options available like custom glass and inserts.

There does seem to be room for some updates to the Peak itself. Obviously there’s all the known issues in threads like this one. But here’s some minor upgrades I’d make:

- when you first get the Peak the glass has a sticker on it with a fill line, I wish this was actually on the glass, not all the way around but just a dash somewhere on it to make filling faster and easier (less trial and error)
- an optional app would be nice, like the Ghost MV1 has. All these combinations of button presses can sometimes get confusing, especially after a few dabs. It’d be cool to have the option to change temps or initiate sesh mode from an app instead of holding down buttons, perhaps with a battery display as well.
- the biggest complaints I have are all battery related. More battery life would be fine but I’m not that big of a user that the battery life is really an issue (I also lock the battery between dabs hoping to keep it alive), but I’d kill for passthrough charging. You should be able to charge as you use it.
- also the 2 hour charge time. If I forget to lock that battery before I put it away, I have to wait 2 hours for a dab. Is there a faster charger they can perhaps upsell?
- and finally what the hell is with that usb cord that it comes with? It’s sooo small. C’mon guys when I drop that much money on something I don’t want it to instantly feel like cheap garbage when I’m greeted by the worlds shortest cable.

I agree with pretty much everything you said.

The 3 inch USB cable is pretty funny... even my $30 Pax Era comes with a nice 2 foot flat cable.

Passthrough charging to use plugged in like an e-nail would be very welcome, as would a full featured app. My Era has full temperature control through the app and it's great, it's exactly what the Peak is missing to tune in between those 50 degree setting differences, which is a pretty big gap coming from an enail. The Pax has 4 default temp settings and one custom slot set via bluetooth. Would be a very useful feature to see here.

A good tip is grab a portable battery pack just in case you have no life in it and want to use it somewhat un tethered , also for charging on the go .

Sorry if I missed it earlier in this thread...what's your technique?

With the Peak any dabs loaded cold before heating up will give you that nice uptemp hit progressively ramping in temperature so compounds boil off linearly. I really think there's something to this as far as preservation of compounds, i think it really has a lot of merit. Been reading about decarboxylation lately and I think these uptemp hits convert more THCA to THC, whereas torch style cool down dabs possibly create more CBN as they tend to be stonier. You can just tell when you hit an uptemp that it bubbles differently (why I think decarb is different) also they tend to be smoother in my opinion, I believe due to less degradation versus a static temp dab since the compounds vaporize in order of their boiling point.

I usually dab rosin so I either load first if its like a budder, or turn it to blue or green and load my dab while its warming so it melts off easy and cap it, it's ready to rip right away when the haptic feedback buzzes.

I've not tried a torch style cool-down dab on the Peak yet, I don't actually have one but my friend does. I imagine heating to red, getting the buzz, and then dabbing would get some thicker vapor for the cloud chasers, also maybe a stonier hit (which I believe can be perceived as "stronger")

Thx! So you're setting it to blue or green, and start hitting it before it says it's ready, yes? Nothing more to it than that?

I'm all about uptemping. It's hard to truly quantify any differences, but I feel like I get a tastier and stronger hit. I've got one e-nail I can do it with if I want to take the time to set it up, and I've done it with herb on the Herbalizer using bags. Those bags are amazing! I'll have to give it a run on the Peak next...thanks!

Yep, that's one really cool thing about the Peak (and other wax pens) is how easily they can do cold start/uptemps. Just load your dab in the bowl, turn it to green, cap it, and when it buzzes its ready to start inhaling. The uptemp hits are definitely smoother IMO, at least for quartz. Although I do find static temp dabs off my ruby insert (in a banger) pretty similar to quartz uptemps.

I've heard about those full spectrum Herbalizer bags but never had one to try that, seems epic though and would probably be hard to beat for flower.

Started getting the rainbow error on my atomizer... I could pull the pin out slightly or turn the entire thing as tight as i could and get a few dabs but the rainbow light kept coming back... Ive had some health issues recently so its been a minute since i cleaned everything... Soaked the atomizer in iso overnight and wiped the threads on the actual base with a few qtips and iso. It looked clean but there was a bunch of oil in the threads.... Anyway after a thorough cleaning havent had the rainbow light come back
