Underdog Log Vapes

My beautiful Tigerwood Special puppy (center) finally arrived safe and sound this morning and already feels right at home with my DIY log (to the right)
Even their respective accessories are fully compatible with each other, which is quite an asset, when you don't live in the US

Big thanks to @underdogette and @underdog for making this possible, despite all their recent misfortune  Your little puppies are really quite some awesome works of art! ;pd;

Big thanks also to me mate @Megaton, without whom the puppy's delivery to its final destination would also have been nigh impossible

Hey Underdogs, sorry we haven't posted an update for a bit.. between the fire cleanup, the moving and the general holiday madness we've been a bit overwhelmed.

We got onto the property and sifted thru the debris for a couple days. There wasn't much left, if the fire didn't get things first the rain and subsequent corrosion got the rest. I did find a few little bits and pieces that I'm hopeful I can resurrect including a few pieces of custom tooling I'd really been worried about. Fingers crossed!

I think @underdogette has some video she might share but I'm not totally sure, I'll let her chime in when she's not so busy. She did snap a few pics at the property including this one of me assessing things.. I think it sums the situation up pretty well.

Right now we're trying to settle in to our new digs up in Oregon and figure out how to best use our resources and which equipment to order and in what order to do it.

On a bright note we found the wood storage pretty much completely intact! It's so relieving to know that we at least have our irreplaceable collection of wood to use once we start production back up.

I really don't need any more vapes.

Still, who doesn't enjoy looking at them? So I was idly comparing log vapes, just daydreaming, when I came across Underdog's request for help.

Buying a vape would help good people get through one of the biggest tragedies of the year? How could I not?

I was especially psyched to see a madrone version. It's on the way.

Thanks for picking up and Dog even though you didn't really need one @Cannabiker we really appreciate the business. Madrone is one of my favorite woods and grows in our area, kind of silly but it makes me happy when I come across someone who appreciates it.

Not sure where to post this but:
Just a thought: Whether health or sheer laziness I am too lazy to sell my used vapes here. When I'm done with them or accessories I put them in a box and send them to Vitolo. Most of what I have left are on-demand vapes including a couple from triihouse, a never use supreme or logs. Would anyone be willing to accept some of these to sell for money for underdog? I tend to be a hoarder but I will never use the butane vapes and my VAS seems to be endless.

You're awesome @little maggie thanks for thinking of us!

Thanks @blokenoname we hope you enjoy the Pup and thanks for the support! We also love helping and talking with people playing with DIY Logs, feel free to post here about yours anytime!

wow, planet of the vapes is very generous! so cool of them

Right!? That donation was amazing and just came out of the blue. I'm not sure that we've ever even talked to them or anything. The vaporizer community is just amazing and incredibly supportive of each other.. we love it!

I’ve come to realise I post a lot of silly questions on here so I’m staying true to form and posing another one. I used a sticky substance in the nong and I was a bit careless and it got in the heater. I can see gunk on the mesh screen and around the rim on the inside. The rim I’m not so concerned about as I’m sure I can wipe it away safely but what could I do about the mesh? It seems to be in the mesh rather than on it. Thanks!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone. We hope you're all having a good time out there. We're snowed in here in Oregon.. a big change from our recent time in Mexico that's for sure.

My suggestion is to carefully wipe away what you can with a q-tip whetted with ISO alcohol and then let the Dog run your normal operating temp and burn it off. It might take a day or three. If the screen is clogged you can carefully try and poke out bits of the gunk with a needle.

Counter to what @Abysmal Vapor said I would be very careful messing with the screen. If you remove it or dislodge it you'll be screenless for good as you can not get it back in beneath the crimped tube from above and you can't do it from below because the core is welded shut at the base.

So again, careful use of ISO and a q-tip and then let it burn off.. you can repeat this multiple times if needed. A little ISO inside the Dog won't hurt anything (don't pour it in but a drop or two wouldn't hurt) so don't worry about that part. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks Abysmal! Hopefully your glass joints didn't come from us?! I hate getting boxes of broken glass. lol

Re: photos of us - we've tried to minimize them in the past because Amanda and I both have federal (USA) credentials from our old 'jobs' that might get revoked if anyone noticed we were working in this industry. I'm thinking about not renewing mine next time it expires and if that's the case you'll be seeing a lot more of me.

@TheSaddestShitIsImBadAsIt Hey ! Those screens on the log are easily removeable with a Pin or a needle. Just try lifting it from sides and if it doesnt work just make a small puncture in the screen and hook it out.
YOu can use cotton buds with alcohol to wipe the metal tube(when cold) and you can soak the screen in it.

On all the current model Dogs the screens are set below the crimp in the core tube so can't be reinserted if they come out so we don't suggest people remove them or their Dog will be forever screenless. Can't reinsert them from the bottom either since the core is welded shut at the base. :science:

Happy belated Winter Solstice, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Mele Kalikimaka, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy upcoming New Year!

Like Dave (Underdog) mentioned, as soon as I get a chance, I'll put together some video we took from the day we finally got to go up to our devastated town and see what was left. It was bittersweet for sure. We can finally start rebuilding, knowing where we stand, but there was such finality to it, to see it in person, our old lives literally burned to the ground.

We're now up in Oregon, enjoying a relaxing snowy day, settling into our new space. Things are looking up, and I'm filled with gratitude for everyone who has helped us. I really am just blown away by all the love from this community, and the generosity.

Until I can get the full video put together, here's a little clip of Dave when he found some of his stash and his favorite water piece:

Awesome, thank you!
I’ll give that a shot. Sad to know I’ll potentially be without the dog for up to 3 days :(

Thanks for the advice but I’ll steer clear considering what Underdog posted, I will say if you’ve managed to do this with success then you must be very skilled :)

Assuming whatever got gunked up in there isn't harmful then I don't see any reason you can't use it during that time. It might just have a weird taste, etc while it's burning off the residue but it shouldn't be harmful. Just give it 10 minutes (hot running time) after cleaning with ISO so it has a chance to evaporate away first.

Got up to stoke the fire early Christmas morning and my wife got started on sweet potato pies. Decided to check out FC once the wood stove was blazing. Since the fire in Paradise I always look at the Underdog page first. Saw the update from Dave and when I read the words” we found the wood storage almost entirely intact” I felt like it was a Christmas Miracle given the destruction in the area. It was certainly a bright spot in the midst of the devastation. One of your earlier posts said there was wood to make tens of thousands of underdogs. I think every dog you make out of that stored wood should be considered a miracle dog. Best wishes for the new year! Cal

Thanks Cal, I felt like that myself when the door to the wood storage slowly opened and it wasn't just a room full of ashes!

It was crazy how the fire jumped around, leaving some things untouched in the middle of horrific devastation. Driving through town, you'll see random buildings still standing, and although I know there is, it sure seems like there's no rhyme or reason to how it moved through.

The stucco building in the pictures is the back of our storage unit facility. Our storage unit was one of the ones on this back wall. Very, very lucky indeed!

I am glad to hear that some of the tooling has survived.
I too was astonished to read that combustible wood had survived after seeing photos of melted steel machines in the rubble. What a strange world we inhabit sometimes...
At least some very small good fortune for you in the devastation.

Does that mean no "fuck you tree" underdogs on the horizon now?

I Also wanted to report that my pair of dogs arrived on Xmas eve so a very good Xmas here down under. Really fast arrival considering all the difficulties. My mate was able to drop in Xmas eve to grab his so a big Thanks.

He is very happy.

I have been so busy and so tired I have not had a chance to use mine except for aromatherapy. I want to give the first session my undivided attention.:brow:

Looks awesome and I look forward to a NYE test drive when I get back from my holiday tomorrow.

I hope you both have a good new years eve and that 2019 is the year of the dog. Good luck.

Thanks Vapenvy, yeah it was great to find some of the tooling there and hopefully salvageable. Glad to hear your Dogs arrived and that you and your mate are enjoying them even if you haven't really been able to give yours a proper test drive.

As far as the 'fuck you tree' Underdogs go yes there will still be some of those made. As you can see from the video above I'm already making preparations.

Madrone is one of my favorite woods and grows in our area, kind of silly but it makes me happy when I come across someone who appreciates it.

Not silly at all--those trees have mystique. I've seen a whole group of mountain bikers reel it in on the downhill just to stop and admire an individual madrone asserting itself in a mono-culture of Doug fir.

I was a little hesitant because this one is a "shorty", and I didn't know if that would mean anything in terms of performance, but the pictures of that beautiful birdseye pattern sold me. I was particularly intrigued by a little imperfection, some bit of mineral or bacteria in the grain, that looked like a little black flame. In person it's even cooler than I thought, almost like an intentional maker's mark.

46587598881_6ed19b1f3c_n.jpg

Of course, I still don't know if it performs any differently than a standard height, but I don't care--this little thing rips. For over a decade, a Silver Surfer has been my daily driver. I haven't used it in two weeks, since the Underdog arrived--but I have filled a muslin bag with ABV in that time.

I'm psyched about every aspect of this purchase. I ordered it on a Sunday, it shipped that Monday, and it arrived the next day (I'm in Oregon). Even the unboxing--which I usually find an act of marketing manipulation--was a joy. Instead of over-engineered presentation, each component and accessory was carefully, lovingly hand-wrapped. It was like receiving a gift, not buying an iPhone.

And what a gift it is. Not only does it perform well enough to be my new daily driver (I'm sure I'll get back to the SSV eventually, but it will have to share the limelight), but it is miles-away the most aesthetically satisfying vape I own.

I'm also a big fan of La Croix fizzy water, but I thought I'd include my own can comparison, just to show my little dog has found a happy home.
