Discontinued Ghost MV1

@wastedpotential: the posts about whether discussing the broken part violated our rules was off-topic, not the posts concerning the latch itself.

Thank you. I understand. That wasn't exactly clear to me originally. (thus my yielding to moderators)

Disclaimer: My wife works for Ghost Vapes. Take that into consideration when reading my posts in this thread. I will attempt to present factual, impartial information on Ghost products, but won't blame you one bit if you think I am biased towards this company.

@Ohm and Away - it'as not a widespread problem, although clearly it looks like it from Cambodia. I never heard of it happening until this latest wave of units, and that's going back a year now, so it's not a design issue. (I personally have six units from across multiple production runs, including two stealth units.) You know how this works...a new product going through its first several production runs will have isolated problems that need to get chased down and shaken out. It happens with every vape we see start out here. Add a variant like a new color and there will be a new set of issues to work out.

What matters to me most in a vape's early stages is the company behind it. I have no problem recommending vapes from Ghost, Haze and Boundless, among others, because they have shown me they will rule in the customer's favor and make things right. You've seen it already when they replaced your first unit without receiving it back. You're smart to give them some time to find the problem before rushing out another unit half way around the world. But you might need that pen of yours to get through the wait!

On another note, I'm on another round of beta testing for these guys, and they keep listening to their customers. Good stuff in the pipeline. Did I mention the makeup brush I use for the crucibles and lids? If any of you still struggle with frequent cleaning, get a brush like this and make that a thing of the past.

I'd love to know whether the two of us in this thread are the only ones who have reported this issue. Again, from taking it apart after it broke to get a better look, I'm stunned and bewildered that not every single unit is breaking in the same way.

Still waiting to hear what solution, if any, is going to be offered. I have no desire to get another identical replacement unit, the same thing will happen.

I'm on my 3rd latch issue. Have pics on another forum but I guess it must be a known issue.....also it's only my Stealths this is happening to

No issues thus far with mine at all. I have a stealth unit too for I’d say.. shoot over a month now.. can’t believe how much time has passed. At any rate, the only latching issue I had in the past was from an early generation unit. It simply wouldn’t close right anymore. Since then though, generations that came after, no issues for me. Could be a bad batch. That’d suck if it is.

I recently picked up a ghost because of the cyber monday sales but haven't been able to get my avb looking how I want. I like using it at higher temps the 2 preset red color's. My experience thus far has been use it get like 3 hits at temp lvl 4 mix it because it hotspots really bad with green still on the side then hit it some more at temp lvl 5 getting another 2 to 4 hits. Even with the mix i'm still getting really uneven avb, makes me dislike using it because I feel like i'm just throwing weed away compared to some of my other vapes. Also is the mixing truly unavoidable? thats my other major qualm with this vape, having to open the hot crucible and mix it inside that tiny little bowl, any advice/technniques appreciated.

You'll get better over time. At 2 red you should do 2 hits, rotate the basket, and 2 more. There is a tiny layer of green left on top but it's tiny. In my opinion, a well packed, well hit crucible doesn't need stirred. I'm at the point where near every crucible is perfect.

I guess you would have to genuinely ask yourself- if the ABV was satisfactorily even, and every other single thing was exactly the same as now- number/size/potency of hits, flavour, effects etc, for the herb you load and use...would you feel like you are wasting herb?
As if the visual indicator is so strong you feel reluctant to continue to unevenly extract from your precious supply? When possibly you are still getting good mileage herb-wise next to your other vapes?

Have a think on that one anyway. It seems this issue will keep coming up. The appearance of the MV1 ABV may not be so indicative as we are accustomed to, of the level and eveness of extraction. And misleading visual cues can create some possibly unnecessary dissatisfaction?

Regarding the need to stir yes I can see that for some people that would be a big dislike. I hope to acquire some experience to be able to input on that myself.

So I just wanted to give my sincere thanks to Nerissa and Virgil from Ghost for their absolutely stellar CS.

I had a problem with my first MV1 Stealth having an incredibly horrible smell. It was really, offensively bad. I could smell it over the whole unit, including on the mouthpiece when I held it away from the unit. So naturally I posted about it to ask for solutions. Instantly Nerissa got talking with me and a replacement unit was sent out.

During the time waiting the smell seemed to dissipate a bit and I was able to come to a conclusion (note this is purely my own theory): what I was smelling is the dense foam packaging in the MV1 box, and it must have been sitting in a hot warehouse or somewhere equivalent and that made it smell even worse and 'spread' into the unit because it was so strong. It is hot here at the moment, and the first unit was in my country for days before being shipped to me (which took days as well).

This theory was confirmed (again, to me personally), upon getting the replacement unit... which was shipped directly to me from Ghost, and quick. It had the same smell on the packaging foam but it was FAR less noticeable, and the smell wasn't on the unit itself this time. The silicone on the unit smelled like silicone, which you'd expect, but that was it. The nasty gag inducing chemical odor was not present on the unit at all. Yay!

So yeah. I really think it was just the packaging, hence not really an issue. So again I really want to thank Nerissa and Virgil for helping out so quickly, even though it turns out that it was likely just the packaging foam. I think you'd be hard pressed to find better CS than Ghost!

So actually using the MV1... this is gonna sound weird, I really love it but probably won't be using it as much as I'd like to. I get some huuuge and tasty hits out of this thing. Unfortunately I do get hot spots and/or kinda burned tasting hits every now and then. Like everyone says, "when everything works together just right", this thing will rip your head off and give amazing flavor. Really satisfying. It just isn't consistent enough. I wish it was easier to have it be more consistent ala the Mighty, for example. Cheat mode, I know. I just don't want to have to think so much. I just want to have a bunch of crucibles pre-loaded and GO.

I really do love it, and when it works well it is AMAZINGLY satisfying in so many ways, but it is just too inconsistent for my liking... not giving up though!

Anyway some positives/negatives to me personally:

Positives:
  • By far my number one positive and easily the most pleasing feature of this device, in my book: Being able to walk outside, pull this thing out of my pocket, press a button, and be drawing within 5-10 seconds feels absolutely AMAZING. The ability to duck outside, have 1-2 hits, then pocketing it again and getting back to life in less than a minute just feels soooo powerful. The speed is utterly satisfying. Waiting for something like the Mighty to heat up is a real pain in the ass to me - not a problem with the MV1! I actually like holding down the button to heat as well, something about that feels really really nice... being in complete control.... it's not 'on' any other time.. I don't know - feels good.
  • IMO this thing is definitely pocketable and I like the weighty feeling of it of it. Feels good in my hand too.
  • Huge, tasty hits - when you get them.

Negatives:
  • I still don't like the idea of silicone that close to the vapor path, I don't even care if it's considered safe. Just a personal thing that makes me feel wary.
  • While I love the crucible idea (capsules in general are awesome), 'no need to stir' really needs to be a thing on a future unit.
  • I would really love temp controls on the device itself, and the ability to turn off bluetooth permanently via a button combination or something. Changing temps, while easy, takes too long and doesn't feel like a smooth process. Doesn't even have to be a digital display, I actually wouldn't mind if it was the same lights system with customize-and-forget temperature settings on the app, then having simple level up / level down buttons (think Mighty) to cycle through the temps you have set. Put down/up buttons on the left/right of the vape button for speedy/easy temp change --> begin vaping. Put lights on the back at the bottom instead of the front to see changes easy.. I don't know. Something would work imo.
  • Loose mouthpiece doesn't feel great but definitely not a deal breaker or something I think about.
  • My replacement unit has a high pitched squealing sound when heating that my original unit didn't have. For me, from what has been for me the ultimate, discreetest, duck-outside-back-in-30-sec powerhouse of a vape... the maddening squealing sound really takes away from the whole stealthy experience for me... especially being in a country that is not legally accepting of certain things.

All that said, I'm 100% on board for an MV2 or equivalent. The power, convenience, and delicious vapor from this thing are very, very appealing. I think these guys are absolutely on the right track to something nearly perfect. And did I mention their CS is beyond amazing?

Totally agree with this, i have less charred bowl since i stay under 205°C without stirring (with the right packed bowl and the good herb ofc) and "char" because maybe i wanna push my abv too far (used to hybrid abv^^).

It's really hard to have the exact same "good result" each time but i have some charred issue with the FF2 too, convection portable vape are a bit finicky it seems :2c:(for me at least). I would like a more consistent result for next version/revision and it would be the perfect on-demand vape for me !!! Oh and should i talk about the awesome Ghost customer support ...

I noticed no one from Ghost has said that it isn't a known issue, and also that they haven't responded to the question about plating/coating. I don't see how this can be user error, the device was working as intended.

I think Ghost probably don't have an answer for this issue yet. Give them time. I have heard of numerous instances reported now, too many to be a coincidence or user error.
So there is clearly an issue. Im sure Ghost are looking into it from every possible angle. They don't hide from problems fair play, or even try to bury or side-sweep them.

But they cant be expected to instantly wave a magic wand to fix every new issue in a heartbeat.
(Im not suggesting you are making any sort of unreasonable hints, gestures or demands and this isn't directed at you, just a general point as we watch the matter unfold.)

If this isn't an issue on non-stealth versions then replacing it with a non-stealth version would be an instant fix as far as I'm concerned. I don't really care how it looks at this point, I just want to get high.

I have home made oil (ethanol extraction) in ccell carts but it isn't a "full" high. I've experimented a lot, wasted a lot of money, and the only thing I've really learned is that I don't know wtf I'm doing. I just want to get back to getting high and I don't want to go back to smoking. I think a heated rosin press and a pen may turn out to be my best option. I can get the rosin press delivered but not the pen, which is just fkn silly. I'll work something out.

I have heard of numerous instances reported now, too many to be a coincidence or user error.

Alexis, I have only heard of 3 users having this issue: 2 here & 1 on VLF (Foretwintee here is the 1 user on VLF under a different username.) So, as of now, it's not a pervasive issue. Although for whatever fluke reason it happened to Ohm and Away 2x & Foretwintee 3x.

I noticed no one from Ghost has said that it isn't a known issue, and also that they haven't responded to the question about plating/coating.

It has been confirmed...the latch door clip has always been plastic. The chrome MV1's are plated plastic.

Whatever it is plated with may have some added strength protection for the latch. Or maybe, it's just a batch issue. Time will tell.

Nerissa, I asked before, but didn't get an answer, what is the plastic plated with? Assumably, chrome? Thanks.

I notice a couple of people in this thread claiming it isn't a widespread issue, but no direct comment from Ghost on the matter. If the issue is really limited to the three people we know about so far, it would be good to know. From looking at the broken part, I find it highly unlikely that other people aren't experiencing the same issue, it seems inevitable.

Been using my MV1 for a week now

The past two days I've had top results, I'm grinding abit more coarser than I was at first, first it was a medium grind, yesterday I had an amazing session, clouds and taste all the way until the end, it offers vapor quality closest to the Firefly 2 in my opinion.

Loading the crucible is much easier than I thought I would be, not an issue at all

I really like: the taste, cloud production, heating time, effeciancy, effect, throat feel

I don't like: sometimes if I don't grind it perfectly I get little to no vapor, if I don't pack it right I get no vapor, I can have a fully charged battery but as soon as I use the device my app tells me I'm at 50% ten minutes later, this really bothers me :| any reasin for this??? The crucible holes also gunk up quite quick

All in all its my go to vaporizer at night along with the Tubo, I'm considering selling my Crafty now as the Ghost is much smoother and I'll make more use of it at home, they both make use of an app so i want to upgrade to the mighty once sold! Loving the two days sessions I had with my MV1 and I can see my self using this frequently! I hope the next one has the ease of a Mighty with the great Ghost vapor quality

Hey FC members!

I appreciate your patiences as I gather correct data for you about the latch door.

The oven door latch has always been plastic and the chrome MV1 latch is chrome plated plastic.

As for the latch door breaking, it is not a widespread issue. Our data shows that there is .1% failure rate on the door latches. It is just unfortunate that we have a couple of members who have experienced multiple failures. Our Ghost team is looking into the situation and what is causing the breakage.

So, is this stealth model $169 better than my orginal? If yes how, so?
The answer will depend heavily on whether your original is one of the newer units, which were released before the new stealh body, with the current heatsink and adfitional improvements. If you have one of the pre-stealth, but newer updated models then maybe you wont gain anything. But if it is an older unit, the report so far are that the new models are a noticeable improvement and do perform better.
