Check out the "capsules" used with the Herbalaire, also known as the crucible.

Never had any problems cleaning them or with anything getting caught inside them. Super easy to clean as well, just drop into iso...

Capsules has my vote for sure.

Something like that, @Ratchett is making for the S&B Mighty dosing capsules, for a smell-proof storage in a JyARz Satchmo?
I guess, Ratchett would make this Caddy suited for Nomad "capsules" on demand.

Beautiful work and stunning photography work @Dan Morrison
Happy owner of #01 checking in. I didn't get the experience of picking out the wood species or sleeve design with this one, but I love everything about it. I am on the list for the batch following the units being made now, and look forward to the design process when the time comes. Koa body with a Rosewood collar would be my dream.
This is by far my favorite portable because of its size, robust build, and most of all, performance. The vape signature is right up there with my all time favorites. The only breakable part is the mouth piece, but there are ss and wood pieces to up the durability factor. How's that sweet wood piece from @Ed's TnT working out @duff ? Could almost see the Scream portrait in that knotty grain.
I also have the screen in the body, and have one screen in the stem about 3/8" in, give or take. I fill and light tamp the load, stir about halfway through, sometimes more than once.
Both heaters are awesome. The low/medium is a combustion free session machine that I can see 30 draws being pulled from a load like @KeroZen gets. I get an average of 20 draws from a stem with the low heater. My spent abv is light in with the low heater, but when I put that abv into a Nano stem, not much produced, vapewise.
The high heat has the more unregulated feel, so to speak, cause you can push the limits a bit farther, faster. The high can char if pushed rather quickly whereas the low takes a heck of a long button ride to char.
I am currently using LG HG2 and LG HE4s. Do 3 stems per charge. Tried the heater swap midway through battery life, but that gets a little hard to keep track of as the day goes on.
Don't think I'll need any capsule loading system. I tried other glass cap capsules in other vapes, and they let too much air pass to create a good draw.
I would like to try the magnet button, but I appreciate the safety factor the current button offers. No accidental heating up in pocket or backpack.
Looking forward to watching this next batch get completed.

For sure I'm happy to customize this caddy to hold any size capsules. I originally tired to make these S&B Capsules fit a caddy for the Jyarz Classic, but I wasn't satisfied with the spacing, so I opted to use a Jyarz Satchmo container instead. Although I can also customize to fit another airtight container if there's something else more popular than Jyarz containers.

These are beautiful and those voodoo doughnuts yummy. I don't think I realized how small the nomad is until you put it next to the doughnuts. Thanks for the info- it really helps. Can't wait for mine to come.

Wow, I can't get over the number of draws folk like you and @KeroZen get from a stem!
3 stems per battery and 20 draws per stem is around 60 draws per battery!
Do you also get visible vapor for the majority of those 20 draws per stem?

I think I could get more than my usual max of around 5 draws per stem (Millana) but I'm certain that I'd be sacrificing visible vapor in favour of all those extra draws!

I'll be happy with my Nomad if I can get say 5 draws per stem, and 3 stems per battery.

Please don't get me wrong. I'm not doubting your results, I just wish I understood how our techniques differed so much to allow such a difference in results.

I know I'm comparing different vapes here , but I suspect you also would get many more draws from my Millana than I do.

Your Nomad pic's are envy inspiring man, that's a lovely vape.

Here is another shot for size perspective. Barely bigger than the tiny Fury 2.

Thanks man. You will be happy with your Nomad then.
Most pulls with visible vapor, except that first one with a fresh charge that hits you right in the eyeballs with that terpy breathtaking hit that has minimal visible vape. Depending on your battery choice and which heater you use, you can get wide variety of results. Low and slow, or high and push the heat up.

@KeroZen Not much degradation going on. I have a tiny backpack it spends its travel time in.

Just got some mail in from my man @Ed's TnT and I'm loving it! Had to send my glass stem in to him so he could take measurements but it was worth it, a nice ol' cocobolo stem. Sorry for the blurry pictures, just got a new phone and the camera on it is horrible! It fits a little loose in there but not anything close to a big deal and better too loose then too tight! It still fits in snug and looks great. Highly recommend Ed for anything stem(or log vape) related!

I think you are a ripper and they are like myself sippers.
You may be right I suppose, but for the record I have a very low tolerance.

Or maybe I just think I have a very low tolerance due to ripping when I should be sipping!

I admit that if I can't see ANY vapour when I breathe out directly under a lamp I probably would consider that a sub standard draw, even if I'm going for flavour (I do mostly prefer flavour nowadays).
On a temp controlled vape like a Grasshopper, I'll start at 1 or 2 and consider a chamber (3/4 full) spent when I reach 4 about 5 draws later and there's no more vapour or effect to be had.
Surely that's closer to sipping than ripping?
(If I feel like ripping I'd polish the same 3/4 GH chamber off in 1 or maybe 2 draws at #4 or 4.5, through a glass mouthpiece or bong, but I almost never feel like doing that).

I almost always vape on my own, so it's tricky to compare technique.

Everyone sounds very happy with their Nomad performance so far, so I have no worries there, I'm just curious how some seem to get so many more satisfactory draws than me (on all vapes).

Maybe I should experiment with even lower temp's or shorter draws, as I like the idea of getting 20 draws from a single bowl.

Sorry for the slightly OT.

Hey hey, so glad it made it, seems it was delayed guess the BF shipping hit everyone hard as it should have been there last week. I made that piece as close to the glass as I could it maybe be off a couple thousandths but that's about it. Yall know a thousandth is a hair, doesnt seem like much but can make all the difference. I so hope you enjoy it and look forward to more updates on its performance. Thanks for all the kind words and the recommendations bro I appreciate it and you.

vapes tobacco modding the vapes
Hi, here is new report on Nomad #17. Like others, I enlarged both heater and battery slots and I learned how to clean contacts well. I've gone through some batteries until settled with LG HG2 and HE4. I broke one of two stock glass stems in a week. Anyway, they were not good for VG/PG soaked tobacco vaping which I do. I need more cooling, durability and ease of cleaning of my stems. So I made my own of stainless steel and acrylic.

One with beige mouthpiece has maximized bowl depth of 18 mm, screen lays right on the inner ridge of metal tube. Another one with black mouthpiece has less depth with a screen laid on a C-clip in variable position. Beige has thicker vapor and is to rip on light Orientals blends. It is good for long, slow puffing sessions too. Black is more suitable to get nicotine fast from some stronger Virginia blends. It is also good for flavor chasing with some delicious English/Scottish/Balkan blends I like. With inbody screen I added to Nomad, these stems are pleasure to load, unload, handle and use.

They are better than glass taste wise and everything else but battery efficiency. I get 3-4 sessions per battery but I am OK with this. I carry my Nomad in Ryot pipe bag with either 2 additional batteries inside a portable charger or with 4 additional batteries in basic box, so I rarely run out of power.

Both mouthpieces have narrow air channels which make airflow perfect and vapor dense for good, while collect the residue faster for bad. So I clean them every 2-3 sessions with pipe cleaner or wash them and blow them through. Screens with rare mesh may last for months and easy to clean with just "wash-n-blow". Denser screens filter small particles better but clog in a week. In a whole, maintenance requires medium efforts with Nomad.

Latest version of my stems has thinner bowl walls for less heatsink, this improved vapor production, warm-up time and battery efficiency. At the same time, they are thick and heavy in remaining part where vapor goes, this improved cooling a lot. Now Nomad plays in my top league for vapor quality, on par with the Lotus and Firefly 2. Nomad beats Lotus in session use and it is much easier to maintain comparing to Firefly 2 (which has to be wiped carefully after each session). This is why Nomad become my most used vape today.

I believe with more cooling it can surpass competitors on vapor quality and I have the idea how to. Imagine this stem collar made of different wood is replaced with metal heat radiator of similar shape. This radiator is integral part of the stem itself, not the device as of now. Radiator is topped with some acrylic, glass, wood or metal mouthpiece. Stem holding O-Rings are placed below now in the device body. Inside this enlarged stem is elongated vapor path for better cooling. This path may have complex shape to serve as labyrinth filter as well. So we will have cool and clean vapor. What do you think, @Dan Morrison ?

I also have suggestion on inbody screen. In the tube (heater + bowl), air tends to flow more through the center. So tobacco close to the bowl walls gets less heat. But it gives off some heat to these walls at the same time, this makes heat distribution even worse. So I tried to hinder airflow in the center of the inbody screen, guiding it more along the bowl walls. I made sandwich of three screens – two basic SS screens with high density smaller screen in between.

It changed airflow just a little bit, but improvements were noticeable – no more wet tobacco sticked to the bowl walls after the sessions. So I decided to go further with this air flow redirection. Now I am gonna make screens with the center part closed completely and set them in to the device and bowl bottom too. I will find someone to solder centers of my screens with silver. I hope @Dan Morrison is interested in experiment too and will try it before me :)

Just pm @Dan Morrison and he will get you on the list. Kind of a lottery style where you can get lucky and get your name drawn and jump forward. But your place in line still progresses if your not drawn.

20 going on 60
PICT-20181205-222747.jpg

Only had mine for a couple of weeks. This is my first manual vape so I'm figuring it all out but it's going to take me a little while.

I'm a ripper not a sipper.

Currently (still working out technique) I get a flavour hit on the first draw. A vapor hit on the second and a whisp of vapor with slight popcorn on the third.

20 hits I can not even begin to fathom but I appreciate we all have different use cases and I have limited experience.

I'm using the dual screen method with the low temp heater.

After the first flavour hit which I do fairly slowly and get no visible vapor from, I continue to hold the power button and then begin my second draw.

The draw starts slow, daaaaaaammmmnnnn slow. After about a third of my draw it suddenly happens, like magic I can feel the beggining of a hit. At this point I speed up my draw and it's a great hit. This vape does the job, it puts a big smile on my face.

I can't wait until my @Grinders for Life Brillian Cut Grinder arrives. I really wanna try out some different grinds with my Nomad. As a ripper I feel like a finer grind might be what I'm looking for.

I love this thing, thank you @Dan Morrison.

More pics and thoughts to come during the Crimbo period.

P. S. All your Nomads look fucking amazing!
