Discontinued Healthy Rips FIERCE

Enjoyed the Fierce tonight with the black mouthpiece. I figured since I always get lighter abv using the wpa and bent stem I could opt for a bit more conduction loading the chamber directly. The abv was predictably darker while the vapor was fairly comfortable stepping the temp at the end. Prefer the flavor with glass though, again no surprise.

Just got mine back this morning. Had to pay the tax on it again unfortunately but worth it.

The flavour on the stock mouthpiece seems a little better now. I'll be using the glass adapters most of the time but it's good that the stock piece is better. I'll use this option when i travel.

The dosing caps seem really nice as well. Can't wait to try them for microdosing with the glass.

I have had my Fierce wpa bundle for one week now. I didn't notice any smell from the glass pieces or bowl, but all the silicone does have a very faint smell. The silicone cover was especially bad, but it along with the silicone on the vape itself have faded.

I have used it 25 times including 5 burnoffs. I have only used the bent stem. I usually use just fill the stem about 70% no packing, I would estimate I use about 0.1g. Takes between 60 - 80 seconds depending on charge of battery to get to ~385F/196C (according to when you click up), when set to 410F/210C.

Do you guys think the Fierce runs a bit cold?

Yes for pure convection, but I find the temp readings and vapor production get better after 2-3 minutes. It's manageable to just leave set at 392F/200C for 5 minutes but I find it starts too slow and ends too harsh so I play around with the set temp.

I notice that it usually stays 20 - 25F/11 - 14C below the set temp at first, at least that's when it vibrates and starts making you click up to get current temp reading. I start with a high temperature to get the glass and bowl warm, then lower it to maintain desired temp range (360 - 380F/182 - 193C). I usually take 10 - 15 second pulls and get about 6-7 pulls in 5 minutes, the 4th pull usually produces the most vapor. Once I start pulling the temp will drop significantly (20 - 30F/11 - 17C after about 10 seconds of pulling) then quickly rise towards the set temp once I stop.

I tend to start the vape set at 410/210 and let it climb to 385/196 (takes about 60 seconds), I take first pull at 90 seconds in and lower set temp to 397/203, pull at 125 and 160 seconds in then set it to 392/200. After this I just take hits at my discretion. At this point it will be dropping to 354/179 as I pull but will quickly climb up to 381/194 (set at 392/200) after 12 seconds then much more slowly increase toward the set temp. At 230 seconds I lower set temp to 383/195.

I find the heat up rate improves as time goes on; for example starting from from 385/196, set at 392/200 it will drop to 360/182 with a strong pull at 215 seconds but will only take about 8 seconds for it to come back to 380/193 and another 5 seconds up to 388/198. With weaker pulls you can have it drop a bit less.

There is a faint aftertaste of the silicone, but it is no worse than drawing on the unit with no heat and it has faded significantly over time. After 10 runs it was still noticeable but was overpowered significantly by the vapor. After 25 runs I can only faintly taste it when I pull with no heat/material. After the 11th run (including burnoffs), it was at the last of 4 bars (25%), I used it one more time then charged it to full (took about 2 hours). I got another 12 runs out of it throughout the week before charging again.

The bent glass combined with the dosing caps got me as wrecked as I've ever been today.

I did a daytime wake and vape to go watch some football and I was destroyed for a solid 2 hours. After about 3 hours I was feeling really good baked but before that I was near passing out and laughing uncontrollably. :)

You think it's "pure convection"? Why? Everything we 'see' points to conduction. Heat soaks and long battery life are characteristics of conduction. Convection vapes, like say T1 have poor battery life and once up to 'working temperature' zero heat soak issues. Hitting them harder makes the load temperature go up, not down.

When "vapor production get better after 2-3 minutes" I believe that's due to relatively slow heat conduction, not the near instantaneous action from convection (once the load is heated up to 'making vapor temperature' by the hot air. Without airflow convection vapes never really heat the load at idle, unlike what we see with FIERCE.

Convection air has to be much hotter than 400F so it can cool to that temperature and still provide heat (energy) to the load to make vapor. Entirely different temperature range.

Rather I suspect a lot of the confusion comes from the 'fact' that the heat sensor is not sensing load temperature directly, or input air entering the load, but rather the heater itself, and is evidently not too tightly coupled even so.

Some describe it as 'conduction/convection hybrid', I maintain there's no such thing due in part to the temperature issue (input air far too cold to do the job), but IMO it's definitely not "pure convection". It behaves nothing like those types in use? But does other, identified conduction vapes, like say the FMs.

Haha right on I'm a science major. Yea my only other vape is a lotus which I got 5 years after release and have had no problems with, so never really felt the need to make an account here.

Sorry I should have been more clear there, I didn't mean to say but I sh by that I mean that it is not capable IMO of pure convection because like you guys are saying the element/heat source is too cold initially but as the glass heats the bud and the bud gets compressed as you pull creating bigger air path I believe could allow for more of both conduction and convection. If it were pure or mostly conduction it would release vapor from the bud if left inside with no airflow, I haven't tried but I don't think it would at least not with the glass attachments. I also have never had to stir or had inconsistent abv. If it were pure convection I wouldn't be getting so much more vapor near the middle and end. I think it is a hybrid, the bud is warmed through conduction by the bowl/glass and also by air passing through the heater and hot glass/bowl. I don't have a conduction unit but isn't the vapor usually much cooler since the air isn't being heated? I would say the vapor I get is comparable in temp to my lotus.

Maybe I'll give it a try with wpa at higher temp and see if I can get a more convection run out of it. I have a lotus which is pure convection and I would say there is a slight difference in how the vapor tastes especially after the 4th pull with the Fierce so there is very likely conduction happening. Part of the reason I got the Fierce and use it the way I stated in the post is that I want it to have more of a joint feel (which is what the lotus lacks along with portability and convenience). I also suspect driving it to those very high temps is more intensive on the battery (I could be totally wrong on that though as you probably just do much shorter sessions), I was kind of expecting those burnoffs to take a toll on battery life but I didn't notice any difference on the second charge cycle.

I suspect you are right about the heater, and if correct consistent temps upwards of 400 are definitely required. Is the max temp on Fury 2 also 430 and was there a way to see the current temp as we do on the Fierce?

guys,

Let's move this discussion to the conduction vs convection thread before the mods tell us to anyway.

That thread is about another situation and a different vape. Discussion of this situation would, I think, not be appropriate there? A new poster made a confusing statement, which I questioned, which indicated something even more extreme ('pure convection', not a hybrid). It seems he agrees it's not that. No readers here who are following will get a mistaken impression it's 'pure convection' (which would happen if the discussion was in an obscure thread elsewhere?

I believe the topic is resolved here
, don't you?

If you think the mods should get involved (and move the discussion there or elsewhere) I suggest you report it. We cannot move it once started here, all we can do is continue it elsewhere? Otherwise, thanks for the advice.

@OF Did you start a new forum for the Mighty vs. Fierce comparison or did you post it in the Mighty forum? If the latter I find it no different than herein, it’s just vice versa IMO.

Since I have neither unit I’ll leave it that but thought the mod’s request and options (i.e. posting in Mighty forum) was the same as posting here. Just my two cents.

Happy Monday to all. :peace:

No, not guilty this time (finally.....). I don't have a Mighty (nor have ever used one) so I really have noting useful to contribute to that comparison. FWIW, with very few exceptions I don't post on a thread I have not read (or at least skimmed) from the start nor on ones where I have no first hand experience.

I don't recall ever posting in the Mighty forum for that reason.

Someone else is responsible, this time. Although I do see how such a comparison would be useful to some/many if the information was solid. I believe such things belong in 'ask FC'?

Holiday regards and best wishes or all. IMO Thanksgiving is a very important Holiday here, uniquely American and an important confirmation of our collective values.

Perhaps it was another prominent member and not you. Apologies.

Indeed, Thanksgiving is one of the best holidays, uniquely American however with roots that extend millennia and attributed to religious harvest holidays (I can name one). Maybe they harvested herb too? Lol. :peace:

Hey, no need for apologies. It's kind of a complement, really? Lots of good folks around with informed opinions to offer for consideration, I've no doubt one of them is responsible here. Which is very cool. Thanks for thinking of me?

Agreed on Thanksgiving. I suspect the original settlers didn't use hemp as a crop, they had enough trouble growing food..... AFAIK the Indians didn't use it, either. But Europe was addicted to it (ever try to build a big wooden ship without ropes?). It rapidly became a corp and hemp became common before the Declaration of Independence I'm told. I also understand 'volunteer' hamp, wild strains left over from the days of cultivation are quite common but not very potent at all.

An excellent time to pause and reflect on our blessings I believe. Very important, even if some only see it as an opportunity to eat too much turkey.

Regards to all.

I've finally decided on a Fierce for my wife and one for myself. We're both daily smokers so it makes sense for us to each have our own unit and we may as well get nice vapes since they'll get used a lot. We'll share glass pieces at home but I like how the stock mp makes it look like a big medicine inhaler of some sort. I mean, that's what it is, but we're in an unfriendly state so something that doesn't draw extra attention is a plus.

The dosing caps seem like the way to go for our daily portable use. Load them up at home in the morning so they're easy to pop in and out throughout the day. Question - what do you do with the AVB cans? Carry a separate container to put them in? I've got a bunch of plastic film vials that we've used for ground flowers. Can we get another plastic cap case from HR? Or find one of those little metal pill containers from the local drug store? I'd rather not dump them and I assume they'd stink up the caps of fresh flowers if stored together.

Any recommendations for a carrying bag? PIU's BF sale has 20% off RYOT bags. Something else work as well or better? Or do we even need these fancy bags? Just use something we've already got that fits?

Buncha rookie questions. Thanks for putting up with me!

I use a RYOT Pack Ratz for my Crafty and it works great. They advertise it as smell proof. I would ask PIU which size works best for your new toys. Have fun!

If you must save ABV I would keep it separate from fresh flower. I occasionally do usually in spillproof container, smell proof too if possible but not entirely necessary. Once it was for a balky vape to test the extraction percentage, unscientifically but the experiment worked.

I have a Fury and love the dosing capsules for many reasons and they're just as compelling with the Fierce from what I'm reading. While I don't have any Fury glass the standard mouthpiece is more discrete and inconspicuous than glass while out and about and I'd think that the same for the Fierce IMO, size notwithstanding.

Enjoy your Fierces! :peace:

EDIT: balky vape above was not an HR product.

As for the used capsules, I've gotten in the habit of starting with 5 fresh in the vile they come in. They all get loaded screen up, as I use them I put them in the bottom screen down. It's an easy visual to see what's left which is nice, especially when carrying more than one vile at a time.

Thru the sale and such I've found myself with 15, and I use them most often now, pretty rare now to go native in the bowl. The only exception is the occasional wpa, but even then it's most often with a capsule. I've settled on .1g in each, it's a fluffy full load and vapes very evenly.

With three batteries, I think I need some more capsules..... random thought, what's worse, to be out and dependent on what you have with you, and have battery power left but nothing to vape, or to have fresh capsules and no battery life? Luckily for all of us, HR has solved this dilemma, both are easily replaceable!

**Edit, I need to find viles that are double ended, or caps on both ends. While it's not the end of the world, it would be great to be able to just put the spend capsule back in from the bottom rather than having to spill all the good ones into my hand to get the used one to the bottom.....

I know that one, but putting one in F2 and stashing four in the tube only calls for shuffling twice, and one of those times is only 2 DCs at that. For five loads. First change is easy, take out the top (fresh) capsule and replace it with the spent one upside down. Couldn't be easier? Next is the full unload and re stack. Two spend ones upside down on the bottom, two fresh ones on top, another in the F2. Next time is another simple 'top only' swap (leaving the only fresh in the tube second). Finally is the partial re stack, the top two have to come out to get to the fresh one, all four spent capsules are then in the tube and the last fresh one awaiting your pleasure. Sounds complicated, but it's actually simple and convenient I think, better than carrying two tubes or the tubing and cap kluge I tried.

With the Fury capsules I’ve noticed they fit best in their native vial upside down, at least the top one adjacent to the lid since the lid has a plastic ring under it inside and within the perimeter. Top doesn’t seem to fit for me so I load them top down as my convention.

I agree a double-sided vial would work best and I’m not going into FIFO/LIFO queueing postulates here.

If anyone finds a double sided plastic vial, let me/us know. :peace:
