Help Me Switch To Vaping!

As per the title guys! First post here so please go easy on me...

My background

After spending my teens, twenties and early thiirties smoking on a virtually daily basis I gave up for a number of years and opted to have a couple of drinks as a replacement after the birth of my son. Over the course of the last year or so I have found myself drinking more than I should, particularly at weekends. I got to thinking about my smoking days and realised that I was actually far happier and healthier then... The decision I'd made to drink was based on the illegality of herb, and the comparitive respectability of booze, however it's clear to me that spending my weekends hungover is actually counter intuitive and robbing me of time with my family. The world seems to be changing, things are becoming less draconian politically, time for a switch!

The situation Now

I've been using a glass pipe and gingerly trying small amounts of locally avaialable buds, WOW, my tollerance seems to be virtually nil... After nearly four years of abstinence even a tiny spec of bud in a bowl gives me a full on heart pounding mind racing high, lots of fun kicking back with a movie and no hangover the next day! Win win right? Well yes, but smoking isn't healthy, I did some googling, discovered vaping is a thing now, and bought myself a 'Titan 2'. I appreciate it's probably not the best device in the world (It's perhaps actually one of the worst for all I know!) but I thought best to give it a try to see if it works for me before investing in more expensive equipment.

My Questions

1. Given I've been achieving embarrassing herculean levels of high from a tiny pinch of bud in a pipe, will it be ok to put a similar tiny pinch in the Titan 2's chamber or does it need to be loosely packed? Given I can feel the effects from a literally miniscule amount in a pipe the idea of even lossely filling that huge looking chamber and heating it up frightens me slightly.... Please advise!

2. How many 'tokes' do you get from the machine before you need to dump the herb and refill? I'm used to burning a pipe, dumping the contents and that's it.... TBH I don't really understand how a session using a vapouriser 'works'. Please help.

3. Any other tips that someone with a puny tollerance switching from smoking to vaping should be aware of?

Apologies for the noobtastic questions, it's slightly weird having morphed from being a one time connoisseur into the new guy asking questions :)

TIA for any help/musings/advice guys!

Thanks :)

It's actually just dawned on me that I should have posted this in the 'Ask FC' section. I'd imagine it's probably to late to ask a mod to move this but if not....

Yo, there are vapes designed to do small amounts very fast. I use a log vape, which is very basic home model that uses a small stainless steel bowl, and I put it on a bubbler/bong and the vapor gets so thick you would swear it was smoke. Then I dump out the bowl and repeat if I want. It's my usual way of medicating, as it reminds me more of smoking than the sit around and getting wispy hits really slowly type of thing.

I also don't know about the one you use but I microdose on most of my vapes- tiny pinch. It might help you convert to get an inexpensive vapcap- the M. It's the most similar to smoking and under $70. It's not my favorite vape but I think great for the transition.

You mention "sessions". There are on demand vapes which work as you describe- put a pinch in and use it up quickly and then dump the contents. Add a tiny amount later when you want more. Or just inhale 1 or 2x and then smoke more later. On -demand vape will only use the flower when you inhale. A session vape will stay lit for however long the session is burning the flower whether you inhale or not. And there are a few vapes that you can use on-demand or as a session vape.

I've replaced all my session vapes with on-demand so the flower is not burning unless I want to inhale.
(and you can ask to move this if you want)

First things first, thanks for the responses!

By the sounds of things what I actually should have bought was an 'on demand' vape, doh!

Either way, for the uninitiated here's a link to the vape I've purchased...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hebe-Tit...sWQ7DeKU7LgHMmTnD5sA:rk:1:pf:1&frcectupt=true

And a thread about it right here on FC with divided opinions...

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/titan-vaporizer.13724/page-5

As mentioned it was very cheap and almost throw away value, the idea being that I can dip my toe in the water and see if vaping works for me with minimal outlay.

In terms of what I require from a vape I need something that can be used outside and look like an Ecig if possible, nice as the vapcap's look I'm sure my neighbours and peers would raise eyebrows if I was to sit using one on my porch! In this sense things like the Titan 2 look perfect and would appear as an Esig to the un-trained eye, if it works I will likely upgrade within a week or two, the only thing really bothering me is that the chamber seems waaaaaay too big and the same seems to go for more expensive vapes of the same ilk like the Fury 2 etc.

Back to the original question, will it be possible to just ad a tiny pinch into the chamber of the titan 2 and vape it in one go?

If the answer to the above question is no, then if the chamber must be loosely packed and a pinch won't cut it, will it be possible to keep going back and use it one toke at a time, perhaps every two hours or so if I turn it off immediately after use?

Again, thanks in advance :)

First, since you are asking about the features on a specific vape you might want to ask the original question in the titan thread. Everyone there would be familiar it. I have put cotton in the bottom of some bowls with a small amount on top. The cotton also acts as a filter.
Second I'm not sure why the vapcap wouldn't look like a cigarette- not the m but I have some that look like cigarette holders. Unless someone is pretty close I don't think it would be obvious. (And the m is about the same price as the titan.)

It sounds like you like in an illegal area. I don't know what looks like an e-cig since I've gotten rid of my session vapes. Others will know those better. I don't know if you're neighbors are just a couple of feet away but another option would be something like the fury 2. I have unfortunately small hands and I can hold the fury between them so no one would know what I was smoking. I think it would be pretty stealthy if you have normal sized hands.

Thanks.

Yes, not yet legal here, and yes, neighbours could be only a few feet away in some circumstances, although the Titan 2 as well as the Fury 2 look just like modern Ecigs to me so they suit the task well.

RE changing the original thread title to reflect the Titan 2 Centric nature of my query, I'm not sure how, could a mod do it?

That being said TBH I'd imagine the answer to my question would apply to lots of portable battery powered vapes with a large-ish chamber so it may be more of a general querry.

As mentioned what would be really helpful to know would be if it is possible to just ad a tiny pinch into the chamber of the titan 2 and vape it in one go? I like the idea of cotton wool to bulk out the chamber but surely it would be better on top of the herb rather than below it?

If the answer to the above question is no, then if the chamber must be loosely packed and a pinch won't cut it, will it be possible to keep going back and use it one toke at a time, perhaps every two hours or so if I turn it off immediately after use?

Tiny pinch probably isn't going to be ideal. That Titan is a conduction vape like the X Max V2 Pro I think. You'll learn by using it how little you can load it and still get acceptable vapor. Unlikely you'll be able to get a second go later with your same pinch.

I was in a similar situation when I started vaping: had a simple glass pipe and was keen to know how little weed I could possibly use in various dry herb vapes. A year later I have a bit more tolerance, which would have bothered me to think about then. I like it this way though because I enjoy the ritual and don't feel like I'm wasting anything even if I am using more.

A Fury 2 (my first vape because I'm such a smartypants) would be an upgrade for you. Take some getting used to and/or a friend to share it with because even a half a bowl will give you six to ten hits and pretty much melt your face off with that toddler-like tolerance.

That make sense, although upping my tolerance in order to smoke more bud seems counter intuitive. One of the reasons I'd actually got into vaping was on the basis I thought it would mean I'd use less bud!

By the sounds of things I've bought entirely the wrong device :(

Is it do-able to slowly consume the contents of a full chamber (Around 0.3g I'd guess) one toke at a time over several days?

I think the Fury 2 it a good choice, it also has the small dosing caps that ( I think ) would suit you perfectly. I use them, they also make it easy to load another bowl, so to speak. Vapcaps will also be a great addition, the only problem with them is the torch issue, if you have nosy neighbors. But, it's great inside especially if down the line you got a induction heater.
Do you have any vape friends? I didn't - so, I had to do my best to navigate the whole issue which was like being in a new land. Good luck, you'll find your way.

Different vapes handle bud differently. Some vape are weed hogs and others treat your bud like a delicacy.

I like to microdose. I'm retired so I am able to vape throughout the day. Every couple of hours I load my Vapcap with about 0.015 gms, Heat the cap to the click, toke and go about my day.

If you want an efficient, tiny, versatile and indestructible vaporizer, get a Vapcap. Vapcaps are very efficient with bud and will get you where you want to be with only a tiny wee bit. It's astonishing really. Keep your tolerance low and save your weed money for wonderful Vapcap accessories like VonGs or stunning bodies and mouthpieces or maybe even a few different tips or engraved caps. This is a personal vape that won't empty your pocketbook and will last a lifetime.

Load the Vapcap with a pinch of herb or fill 'er up. It works magically just the same.

Super versitile, the Vapcap can be heated with just about any heat source, whether it be some sort of lighter, induction heater, a campfire stick etc. Super attractive with the various aftermarket artists offering stunning stems and bodies. Everyone should have at least one Vapcap.

Not with that vape and it's not a great way to do it with most honestly.
Conduction vapes where the chamber heats up around the weed usually need the chamber packed to conduct the heat through the weed evenly so they don't work great with small amounts, and since the whole chamber is heated your weed is still getting heated when you're not actually drawing and even for a short time after you turn it off.

Honestly the vapcap is less obvious that you'd think, and with your tolerance you're going to be heating it maybe once or twice at a time. I've struggled to light joints outside for longer than that.

I recently gave my cousin a Fury 2 and he loved it. Then I gave him a vapcap M and now that is all he is using. I use my vapcap everyday. They really are extremely efficient and amazing vapes. I will always own a vapcap or several.

Yeah, the move is probably to get a VapCap M (the cheapest one they make) and/or a Fury 2. You'll look like you're heating a crack pipe torching your vapcap is the only thing. Those two are just the perfect affordable combo otherwise and with the bent glass stem the Fury 2 is plenty handy for microdosing. While it's an excellent suggestion I personally don't much care for the thinner vapor of the Fury 2 dosing capsules.

And yeah, I'm not saying you should embrace wasting weed or getting a costly tolerance. I'm more saying that when I started (with a Fury 2 and a then a VapCap purchased after that) a few hits would have me soaring for three or four hours.

Nowadays I'm still a lightweight by FC standards and I don't mind vaping .1g to .25g a day depending on the situation and the strain. It's useful and practical to have some control over how high I'm getting.

Ok, thanks all for the responses :)

RE the Vapcap, it would be absolutely perfect were it not for the fact that it looks like a crack pipe when in use as bossman says. With my neighbours a couple of feet away and my cloak of respectability it simply isn't going to work for me.

Slightly bummed that my Titan 2 is going to be absolutely useless for my needs by the sound of things, it's sat on the kitchen bench charging at the moment but in light of what you've all said it might never get used :( At least it didn't cost much...

Nope, I have no vape friends so I'm pretty much navigating this alone, or rather with help from you lovely lot! RE the Fury 2, would that allow me consume 0.1g over the course of a Saturday night? If so they seem to retail at circa £120 in the UK IIRC, where's the best/cheapest place to buy them from?

Again TIA, you're a good bunch!

The vapcap looks more like a cigarette than a joint does. It is way smaller than any other vape you'll find. It can be unconsciously heated in several ways and if you want silent heating just use a flint lighter or a candle in a sheltered spot or use an induction heater, also silent.

You heat, then toke, so you do not bring a flame close to your face. You can easily heat it while turning your back to your onlookers.

Honestly, any vapour smell will give you away, way before the Vapcap will. It just looks like a high class cigarette and you puff on it in the same way.

I spent a lot of money on a lot of different vapes before I finally discovered the Vapcap. Oh, how I wish I had discovered it first.

Use the Fury 2 with glass accessories and it's easier to use less.

You can totally spread a bowl over two or three sessions with the native mouthpiece and the bowl isn't big.

Thanks again, that's a big help :)

Out of interest what is it that makes it possible to spread a bowl over two or three sessions with the Fury 2 but not with the Titan 2? What's the defining difference that makes it possible with one but not the other?

TIA.

The fury 2 heats the air before it reaches the weed, convection heating, then the hot air extracts the goodies as it passes through your weed.
It does have some conduction heating too due to it's size, everything is so close that the heat travels into the chamber walls and into the weed so it's not true convection or on-demand, but you'll lose less cannabinoids doing it with the Fury 2 than a full conduction vape.

The second heat up won't be as flavorful and the third will have lost all flavor and probably need to be higher temp. You'll find a sweet spot between under filling the chamber where you can mostly finish what you start and doing the second or third try thing. Like try half a bowl so you only have to endure vaping used stuff once and you're done.

Nobody prefers half vaped weed but you have options to work with. Another common trick is to take a draw as you turn the device off to cool the chamber and help preserve your material.

The beauty of the Fury 2 is the tiny size and the low price. Just get one and it'll be your standard going forward. It's not like there's any competition in that price range apart from the VapCap, which doesn't suit your needs.

If you can vape a bent stem (which is still stealthy enough for a jacket pocket though not safe or secure enough to tote around that way) you can fully vape a small amount and have good flavor and a glass airpath every time. Still gonna take you four or five hits and have you pretty toasted though!

Just wondering if you are planning on vaping outside for the most part. At some point you might want to check out a log vape (underdog, hi, enano, woodscent. You can leave them plugged in an just pick up and use as your passing by. The woodscent also has a vapcap as part of it so you end up with both.

Also the main reason you bought the titan was to see if you wanted to vape. You could always get a vapcap and start inside away from neighbors. When you actually see it you might decide you can use it outside.
