Haha, sorry, forgot those live feeds are on IG not YT so not everyone watches them. R was showcasing the new 510 deck that will allow for a slightly bigger heater and a little ceramic piece he designed for insulating the bottom of the deck. I have no idea if the latest units have the changes or not but I’m gonna sit tight until I know for sure. Lesson learnt from getting a pre-production splinter a month earlier than the actual production units with the improved build (and not so improved 19/19 ).
Are those ig videos only available while he is live? I’m new to ig and can’t find any old videos.

Hehe yup I was rushing as I got there with it at 3. Are they all 2 hole do we know? I see in latest VF video they're playing with a 4 hole...

I believe the Z's from Vapefiend are indeed all 2 hole, unless of course one slipped through tge cracks as did happen with the Splinters and was not clocked by Vapefiend presumably when they packed it.

Originally I was unsure if I would prefer 2 or 4 holes, but after listening to the wise members here I think 2 should suit me good. I dont need record breaking fat rips at 50W, and it sounds like more technique may be required especially with the stem.

But maybe they have sent me an elusive 4 hole(?) We'll soon find out.
I ordered the Mi cooling mouthpiece and water adapter.
Wismec Reuleux from Amazon, and 3 Samsung 30Q 18650's.

I think that is all I will need to start right? If I can just use the box mod to charge for now until I get a charger when officially needed.

Ryan admitted that it could be on the cards for VF to stock the Xl8r stems at some point too.

Going to check out their video now thanks for that man.

Edit- The way George is talking about the Z, describing it in a general sense in relation to its 4 holes... makes me wonder if in fact they received fifteen 4 holers?

That is what is indicated here anyway, and would be my logical conclusion if my mind hadnt been so programmed to expect either just a few 4 holers, or fifteen 2 holers. And with no choice in the product listing too.
Very curious now.

I ordered an XL8R with mine, they're here!

Yeah, agreed. I'd prefer the 4 for flexibility though.

Which Wismec? You'll probably want to look into sur_myevic or funkyjunky's custom firmwares but otherwise yup you're set!

Thanks man. I will leave the Xl8r for now and see how the Mi cooling mouthpiece goes.
I think they surely will be 2 holes, @Summer previously confirmed I believe that Ryan had said vapefiend would only be receiving to hold Z's.

And from the photographs on vapefiend product listing it doesn't look like there will be 4 holes because you can see far enough around the body and can only see one hole.

So George may have just picked up a random 4 hole, or he may have come by that unit before and outside of this order. That would actually make more sense.
However from his description in the video he has made me think that maybe I would prefer the 4 hole version of myself now.

But hey you know what they say about beggars and choosers! Well I will just have to be a happy beggar.:)

Hey, that's a good point actually. Delia was using a beta about a month ago on a video, probably that one!

@HerbieVonVapster looks like you’ll have more tweaking to look forward to if you decide to pick up another model with the changes

That's a tough one. I'm think we both got our sprinters around the same time. Personally I have no desire to upgrade to the newest model with it. So unless it's a big difference probably stick with the Z i have.

I have a birdseye maple with 4 holes and love the way the light reflects off it. Makes some cool banding effects depending how light hits it or you move it. So other than performance I enjoy it for the cosmetic effects. So a new one would need to increase performance and look better than current one.

I think that is all I will need to start right? If I can just use the box mod to charge for now until I get a charger when officially needed.

With the newer Mods charging batteries inside is fine. I charge my DNA's and the wismec sinuous batteries inside the mods. I be more worried about wearing the usb connection than anything else.

I have the 4 hole and feel 2 holes would suit most people. Unless your doing huge rips or thru water most user will find having some draw restriction a benefit. I went with 4 holes cause I mostly use TC mode and find draw restriction annoying.

If you use wattage mode and not a huge ripper differently get a 2 hole. The 4 hole really not going add any benefits. You might even find it harder to use. Most people find it easier to have a device restrict there breathing rate than restrict it themselves. In wattage mode only real benefit go 4 holes is if do huge rips most of the time on higher wattage. In TC mode it doesn't matter as much since its only going uses the wattage needed to maintain selected temperature.

If using a DNAc mods can set the high temp. protection setting to lower temp even in wattage mode. It won't throttle like it does in TC but it will cut power at the set temperature.

I would suggest if using water and wattage to set it around 445 this should cut the power before it combust. There still be enough leftover heat to finish draw and it shouldn't char or combust.

Had it set to 470 in download but just lowered it to 445 the setting is under mod then safety tab.

If using my downloads the newest ones are labeled DNA or DNAc. Those 2 files along with profiles where updated 10/17/18 if using older version please update. I used the stock theme (working on my own) for the DNAc.

The improvements I mentioned with the splinter was more about longevity of the unit than performance. My first splinter died in 3 weeks and when I explained the issues I had R replied he made changes that should avoid such problems as I experienced. That all happened within a month or two between 2 production runs so let’s see if my patience will pay off second time around

@HerbieVonVapster thanks very much for that information and perspective, hugely appreciated.

I do also prefer as little draw restriction as possible so I would be really pleased to receive a 4 hole. I have good breath control.

I will be re-studying your tips and pointers above on the mod settings. I think if I can get it in my hands first I may be able to have them things better because it all kind of goes over my head this sort of technical stuff.

But Im sure like most things it is fairly intuitive as you pick it up. Right now I have no idea how it will work like whether the wismec reuleaux will link to my tablet via bluetooth I'm guessing and I can download your profiles via the tablet hopefully.

That would be really cool if so. I will try and pick up as much as posdible first THEN start evening classes lol!
Thanks again man.

Edit- I forgot to add: HURRY, THERE ARE ONLY 1 LEFT!

With the 4 holes can always block them off. Those fancy toothpick fit perfect if cut down to size. Here's an old pic where you can see them in use. Tried it for 5 mins blocked and went back to free flow mode.

Really need to get some better pics. This was day 1 I since added a few coats wax and has really made the grains pop out.

The wismec reuleaux DNA250 will need a usb connection to access the escribe software. If you do not have either a widows or mac with usb connection the older DNA may not be a good choice.

Most of the settings are done in escribe on the older model. The very least you will need access to get it running. Once set up not much needs changing so its possible.

Thanks, I think I have possibly misled you because I only ordered the Wismec Reuleaux RX GEN3 Mod, not the DNA250.

So Im not sure what will be possible in this direction with that mod. But my mum does have a laptop with windows which I could use but I aim not to. It isnt something I can just access freely any time.

Man Im so wishing VF sorts me a 4 hole, c'mon VF make my day.

I would then put sur_evic SME on it in that case. All control are done from mod. You also be able to run cruise. You will need access to a windows computer to install it.

Normal would suggest to go with arctic fox till you have understanding of mods controls. Since the added functions won't help you without computer access going skip that.

In the link below about halfway down is a guild for sur_evic. If you run into issue or have question I check that thread often and more likely to receive a quicker response there.

Summer

I will post here & link to here in Splinter thread.

All I know is that you guys owe me big time cause this is a labor of love with going forward & backward in the stream getting all the details that Ryan mentions correct & screen capturing & posting. Took me well over an hour to gather this & post! Just remember this when I finally add Red Panda or AF to my mod & I ask 100 baby questions to get the deed done. Seriously, I don't understand 90% of what you guys discuss when it comes to firmware.

***Note to all: This new design is now under provisional patent. I'm assuming that's why Ryan now feels comfortable giving us the specifics.

*1/2 of this is actually quoted verbatim from Ryan. As far as the pics, Ryan has a very white cast in his environment.

Current Splinter has 3 (embossed?) triangles on the bottom of the deck. The new deck will have 3 (debossed?) pyramids. Looks like that to me.

Triangle Pyramid
triangle.jpg
pyramid.jpg

Hard to hear, but I think he said the old fitting is called D2. When you remove the bottom screw it has an insulator which insulates this positive screw from the body (which is negative through the threading).

Existing-V2-fitting.jpg

He then unscrewed the positive post from the deck & between this post & the deck base/platform is a plastic insulator. (This is were he mentioned you, @KeroZen, saying that "he thought you'd get up on this one.") The positive post is what connects to the heater.

Insulator Post & Insulator
Plastic-insulator.jpg
Plastic-insulator-post.jpg

He said this is OK for e-cig usage because e-cigs only faults for 2 - 4 sec and the heat is instantly absorbed by the wick, that's why the coil doesn't burn out, so it's a very low energy situation. His heater doesn't run that hot, but a really, really small heater can run hot & heat up the 510 fitting.

Now, this said, the Splinter is designed that the intake airflow through the 2 holes cools off these 2 posts on it's way in, thereby, pre-heating the air & keeping it energy efficient & keeping the wood cool, but it's also cooling off that positive post that's attached to plastic. So used within reason, the Splinter doesn't have any issues using these parts. But, that doesn't mean he shouldn't make it better.

The top mount vs. side mount provides 5mm more of heater room so he can expand the heater with a little more material & improve performance.

new-mounting.jpg
ceramic-insulator.jpg

Bigger screw & entire base covered in ceramic. So it's not just a plastic insulator. He insulated the entire bottom so it's a thermal insulator from the heat, from the heater itself, adding an add'l layer of cooling protection to the unit.

The improvements I mentioned with the splinter was more about longevity of the unit than performance.

As Ryan said, if used within reason you won't have any issues. As far as longevity is concerned the only 2 far-fetched things I can come up with is that maybe the glue would be less apt to fail or become brittle & separate where the wood meets the deck.(although per Ryan, only the 1st batches were susceptible to this -- glue change?) OR the wood shell would be less apt to dry out & crack. But as I said I find these 2 scenarios far-fetched -- if used within reason. But I do think 5mm's more of mesh will give a performance boost. 38W with the Z is more powerful than 38W with the Splinter. I'm presuming it's because of more heater mesh.

Topic Change___________________

As I understand it from previous RBT streams, Vapefiend's next order of 400 Splinters & Zs will all be 2 hole bubinga. A few 4-holes slipped through on VF's 1st order so unless he has some remaining on-hand @Alexis you may be out of luck. Why don't you contact George & find out what he sent you, & if he sent you a 2-hole, & has a 4-hole in-stock, then ask him to put on it on the side for exchange. But before I use the word exchange, I'd ask him if he has any 4-holes available. ;)

From the above video, George/VF seems a little unknowledgable about upper wattage limit. And, having just checked out his site, it's only the Splinter that showing a selection of low & high airflow, not the 1 remaining Z. Since he's only getting 2-holes in with the next batch, why promo the 4-hole, unless all the remaining 15 were 4-holes? :\

I do also prefer as little draw restriction as possible so I would be really pleased to receive a 4 hole. I have good breath control.

I do agree with what Herbie said:

I have the 4 hole and feel 2 holes would suit most people. Unless your doing huge rips or thru water most user will find having some draw restriction a benefit. I went with 4 holes cause I mostly use TC mode and find draw restriction annoying.

BTW, it's a convection - conduction vapcap heater Ryan's playing around with.

@started@52, for instagram on a computer, you can see the posted pics & stories posted at www.instagram.com, but for the IG streams & streams published after the fact (of living streaming) you need to have the app installed, which I've pinned to my Task Bar.

BTW, I know in Google Play for android users that there is an app called Story Save (not Saver) If a live stream is published, you can save that stream & view it at your leisure at a future time. You can even transfer it to your computer to free up phone memory.

Okay, nothing y'all ain't seen before but...

I didn't think it would be in my hands so soon but you have to praise both vapefiend and Amazon for super fast delivery, free too.
No batteries yet I don't expect them till next week which is a shame because I'd love to give this a go.
I'm surprised actually that's it's not as big or unwieldly as I had imagined it looks taller in the photos I think.

So still very portable to me I say.
I can confirm it is a 2 hole. I was a little disappointed because I have some small hope for a 4. I tested the airflow and found it to be a little restricted for my usual preference but not too bad.

Slightly more open with the stock mouthpiece, but I was pleased to see that the Milaana Calling mouthpiece was only slightly more restricted and not too bad at all.

I also checked the air flow through the water adaptor and a bubbler and was pleasantly surprised that it seems very free-flowing actually, seemingly more so than with the glass stems but this could just be an illusion.

A very far world from a vapcap bubbler hit though, especially considering that this will be the constant rate of airflow where as with the vapcap I don't keep it open all of the time and even then it is still a bit restricted.

So I'm happy and excited so far but of course there is every chance I will not be able to tolerate this vape like so many others.

Thanks v much again @HerbieVonVapster for your advice. I am quite handicapped due to injuries when it comes to learning especially concentration and memory.

Anything beyond sleepwalking capabilities boggles me and goes over my head when it comes to this technical stuff at least. So your help is much appreciated, I shall try not to become a nuisance to you as I seek to get myself up and running with a simple and basic setup.

I'm sure I will experiment in wattage mode first before I cross that bridge though.

I like the new design changes. Any ideal on when the new versions will be released? The extra 5mm of heater mass along with ceramic base are nice upgrades.

I'm not sure if I will upgrade mine or wait till next the next upgrades cycle. I'm really happy with way splinterZ is running so time will tell.

Am I disappointed mines "outdated" not at all. So far I haven't found a RBT device I been unhappy with or regretted purchasing. I don't mind supporting the companies here that share my passion for vaping.

These design changes cost Ryan money. I'm glad some my purchases went towards improve these device over all of it just going into his pocket. The rest of profits he more than deserve. He may not be perfect (who is) but he does have the passion and drive to produce close to perfect performing products.

Almost 100% of my medicating is on handmade vapes. So I would hate to loss any of the fine manufactures here on FC. Ryan's the grand daddy of them all and has earned my support. Consider passing on the splinterZ due to the glass and really glad I didn't.

Hi from Spain, I was able to purchase one of the few splinter z from vapefiend :) Also I have a wismec Reuleaux RX2/3... The splinter Z will arrive next week and in the meanwhile I am just learning all I can from this great fórum in order to obtain the best vaping experience.
My questions are...
Can I run the mod in TC mode with is standard firmware?
If I need to update the mod with the FJ firmware.. can someone provide me a good link to download it?
I have found several links to apparently tubo evic or Funky junky firmware..and I really dont know which should I use...
Thanks in advance
