My package from Greece arrived today.

The Dendrobates Auratus RCCT stem.

It's a stunning combination of shades of black and green that captivates you with its glowing depths. The mp has an inlay to match the stem.

The resin coating is not only interesting and beautiful but it gives the stem traction. It has a grippy feel without being sticky. Perfect for twirling over a flame. It feels very durable. The mp is multifunctional. Yes, it is a stunning mp, but it also doubles as a load tamper and screen setter. Everything you need in one fantastic package!

I've been testing my new stem all day today and the vapor seems somehow cooler and the stem doesn't heat up at all It's very nice to twirl and hold. It even fits into my XL Dynastash!

The only problem is that my Bengal, Caleb, admires it too.

So my stunning new stem will live here to keep it safe and out of harms way.

Hey all,
As the proud owner of the custom Ti stem pictured one post above, I'd like to momentarily stop my lurking and post a little something.

As already mentioned here, and elsewhere, ordering was a breeze. Informed SDS I'd like something similar to a design on his blog, and to have fun whilst making it. With SDS swift work, and the help of Hermes (who obviously still works for the Greek post office) that handsome stem landed on my doorstep in 13 days. Couldn't be happier. Except.......

It came with a sister!!! and she's beautifull. Not sure that any of my pictures do it justice. (or even if I'm posting them right lol). I love the spiral effect and the way it fades out, as if worn. Simply stunning.

They look great! @Squiby that mouthpiece is one of my favorites just look at that! I'll bet the swirls in the body are stunning in person.

@Piña Delores nice! Both of your stems look so nice, a delight to spin in the hand. They have a kind of masculine quality to them, while @Squiby got a stem that seems more feminine to me.

What about a stem that is cigar thick, with bands of resin inlays, similar to the mouthpiece on squiby's work of art? The other end could be worked with your awesome knurling (is that the right term for the tool like texture?) Just a thought if combining the masculine and feminine features together. What I'm imagining in my head looks pretty cool lol

Recently I had a quite tricky order .
A forum member asked me if I can replicate this pattern :

k97sjr.jpg

- Especially those pictured at the top right and/or bottom pic - ,into one custom RCCT stem .

Well,as i've already stated before ,mixing two or more colors is very difficult.
The more the colors tto be mixed ,the more difficult it gets .

Nevertheless I gave it a try and got a rather controversial result.
Most of the black has mixed with white into a blurry gray ,
while some of the white has mixed with the ( cobalt ) blue ,making lighter shades of it.

Very tricky stem .

Here are some pics with the stem having a satin finish :

And few pics with a Gen.#6 Ti tip and a custom hammered mp attached :

@stardustsailor, they're all stunning! What do you mean applied the glossy finish above?

The process of making a RCCT stem goes like this more or less :

1 ) Cutting the Ti tube at ~ 62 mm length
2 ) Knurling the tube at it's full length
3 ) Countersinking the tube lips (edges ) and polishing the inner surface of the tube
4 ) Chemically degrease the tube and prepare the surface ( passivation ) .
5 ) Applying the main composite (s ) and let cure
6 ) Do the stripes and apply the composite on them and let cure
7 ) Final shaping of the composite
8 ) Sandpapering and felt wheel finishing ( at this point the stem with a satin finish is done )
9 ) Optional : apply 2x clear resin coats for a glossy surface finish .

So ,the final glossy surface is done by adding 2x clear coatings of resin
(which BTW almost always have some tiny dust speckles trapped on them,
thus making small "bumps" on the surface.
But this is almost impossible to avoid,
since I lack the special dust free ,vacuum chamber ( $$$$$ ) needed for the job . )

Cheers.

I’m sorry for the bad experience buddy. Please know we appreciate all that you do. And also, you make an incredible stem.
