Discontinued The Grasshopper

Thanks for the info. I’ll stick with ISO as my threads aren’t too bad - and stuff discoloring apparatus is not my cup of tea. And it won’t matter for some time anyway - my 2+ year old Ti is going into RMA purgatory on Tuesday for the first time. In addition to overheating it’s not turning on intermittently. Just scored an inexpensive Fury 2 knockoff which is quite nice so I can send the Hopper back...
Yeah I will never PBW my HT PFE, but I also hardly use it to preserve it lol, glass alone scratches it, I use it native or with a Teflon adapter.
I wouldn't really recommend a coloured PFE at all, they scuff up in a matter of days if you're not so careful.

The last few times I've cleaned the PFEs I've just spent a few mins with isopropyl and a pipe cleaner.
But today I'm going to give them a proper wash. With plain metal it's no drama, super easy and faster than any other method I can think of to fully clean (without increasing risk factors, PBW is safe stuff and free rinsing).

Good luck with purgatory! It's a gruelling process

I'm sure PBW works however it's extra steps for me and I'm not too comfortable with the fact it has stripped finishing off some devices. ISO suits me just fine and doesn't require heating. Perhaps my threads don't quite match yours but they're good enough. Except...

Now to read the HL instructions to send in my Ti to RMA Purgatory. And I just watched the movie Inferno (written by Dan Brown) too but the book was way better. Yeah, Dante knew a lot about Purgatory and Hell...

Old & In the Way
Report from Paul Simon's 'Homeward Bound" tour - - last stop Madison Square Garden and we were fortunate to be there last night (his third to last show ever).
Early on I knew I would be just a mess, what with the crying and all, it just did not seem too manly, but this, among other things, is what old age is doing to me.

We debated which vapes to bring and resolved that the Mighty would serve well for the hour long car ride each way, but the Hoppers (fully loaded, but no extra stash) would be the stealth option for inside the Garden (plus a cute little slim-line KandyPen "Rubie" that a friend recently sent from out west --very easy to conceal).

Security has gone as expected, bonkers at events in NYC. Just approaching the gates we saw 2 separate dogs on patrol, and more dogs all around, uniforms and plain clothes all over the place. Then we saw the security check, complete with metal detectors and decided to go back 50 paces and regroup. (Aside - literature for the venue said all attendees would also be viewed with face recognition software.)

We decided to each put our Hoppers inside out glasses case (hard shell), wife's then into her purse (where the Rubie already was, and mine into my pocket. At the metal detector, wife's bag was looked-into with a stick-like flashlight, and I had to empty pockets into a small tub for inspection. These tubs did not go through any x-ray or detector machines, but were scrutinized by the guards. I cringed and looked casually away as he lifted the glasses case out of the tub and then OPENED it to inspect contents. I had to look away. But he was unimpressed and soon closed the case, set it back in the tub and wished me well. Holy Crap. I put the case in pocket and walked far away before I had the nerve to open the case and see that he had not taken the Hopper out!

However, the venue was packed to the gills with old folks, almost none of whom looked like they were about to bust out a spliff, and inside we did not detect any use at all. So, we restricted our use to the oil pen for just a couple of pulls. I got a terrific buzz from the music alone, so....

Thanks for the security briefing. I always wondered what it would be like to bring in a Hopper or any comparable sized unit to a concert. I've never tried. I just acquired a small slim-line pen with a USB charger (no oil cartridge - yet). This along with my new F2 knockoff are going with me tomorrow on my trip (pleasure and business) where there are rec dispensaries, so I'm excited about that and to try oil for the first time. I commiserate with you about getting sentimental seeing favorite artists for the last time - it was hard seeing my favorite band a few years ago for possibly the last time - 49 shows over 35 years and meeting them once.

As far as my Hopper, it was indeed shipped back to HL on Monday. In addition to degraded performance and overheating, the on/off button started to not work last weekend before sending it in. I'm not expecting a quick turnaround or frequent updates from them on the status of my Ti - which is now in RMA purgatory. To be continued... :peace:

EDIT: via USPS tracking, HL has in fact received my pre-order Ti RMA. Thanks to several of you and some of your horror stories, I taped my warranty number and unit serial number on the bottom of the original box and also inside the box cover. Let's hope they don't lose it or mix it up with anything else. To be continued...

Ohjeezus.

So I’ve cautiously read along, biding time, until I could take the plunge. Purchased a
“No issues/not registered” Ti off CL, only to almost immediately worry that i’d made the wrong decicion:
I found that the guy I purchased from was pretty vocal here re: his decent into madness and subsequent falling-out-of-love w HL. Whatever. Got it. Love it, played around at 3.5-4.5-5 (only native) before at some point exclusively getting down @ 5...

But it occasioanally..Trips out? Not sure if failing or business as usual...

First I panicked at ghost-fires, but found out it’s normal to have leds engage when the clicker and barrel are shorted, and that there is protection against this.

SOMETIMES though, on occasion, it will go disco mode, and the leds will kick off and trip out when it is NOT ON.

I KNOW I’ve pulled it out of the weird little pouch I use and found the barrel warm (HAS to have engaged)

Sometimes the first click looks like it’s on, then it’ll take a second press. Soooometimes a few. Sometimes lights bug out red to blue. It always works (if only after a few attempts) but I start to sweat ea time. I try to reseat the components, tighten, check, but no blue tak yet. No iso. No long 2qtip on the battery+ contact. Just a quick swipe w regular q in the mouthpiece and the chamber and a blow.

Am I DOOOOMED? (I know I am. We all are, arent we? Every damn one of us, and close to 900 pages to show it!)

I've carried my PAX 3 into concerts, and it's enjoyed some international travel. At a concert at the Moda Center in Portland I dropped it into the basked to pass around the metal detector, and no one said a thing. It looks like a power charger. I figure they'll see the same thing in airport screenings--it's just a battery and some electronics, like so many other devices. Of course, once inside the Moda Center, no one was burning, so even though the performers were all for it, the audience was mostly denied. I set the PAX low and took sippy draws.

I was psyched to have it with me when I visited Copenhagen this summer--Christiana's weed selection isn't exactly an Oregon dispensary, but it was great to hang out in one of the keys spots in stoner history.

I wish this were a report on how a Grasshopper gets through security. I ordered mine April 21, anticipating each of the security screenings I'd face this summer. I'm glad the PAX proved to be stealthy enough.

When the security guy checked my things (at MSG entry), he physically picked up the case, opened it and saw a pair of glasses and a Grasshopper. Then he moved on. I believe they are not looking for paraphernalia at all, only weapons-type things. I'm more surprised he didn't suspect it could be a laser pointer, but then again, I'm not sure, maybe those are allowed in concert venues as long as they're not in use.

If security were looking for cannabis, they would spend an inordinate amount of time dealing with a low-risk item. They would have less time and resource to devote to preventing serious violence. If the dogs were set out to smell both cannabis and explosives, they'd go bonkers finding cannabis and handlers might not discern when the dog had actually found a weapon.

2 months, 4 RMAs. TI RMA - 2 replaces since RMA returned. 1 month old Extra body - RMA. SS RMA returned (sent in last March - returned last week - v5) - bowl screen not secured, awaiting new body (“shortly”, whatever that means). 3 bodies, none working for now 7 1/2 of the last 9 months. It’s just reached silly mode and I’ve given up on these clowns. I’ve reached the point that I don’t get mad, don’t get frustrated, in fact, I expect exactly this from my GH and Hopper Labs. I don’t even care if my RMAs ever are returned. Sure will be lovin’ my Lil Bud to replace these electronic wonders.

Thats exactly how I feel. I don't even care anymore. I just expect it.

I am still waiting for my v5 body replacement. I bought a Hopper in May, and haven't had it working for more than a few days at a time since then. Buying the new body was a good call since it got me away from having to send it to RMA hell, but I have had 3 'spare' bodies from them and none have worked for more than 48 hours. Now they are saying that the v5 is going to solve all the problems. I haven't gotten it yet, so I can't say for sure, but I figure I'll just happily use my other vapes until that comes back to me.

Ended up splurging on an Induction Heater for my Vapcap, because the only thing I don't like about the vapcap is having to use a lighter all the time, but I love the hits I get from it. So I'm hoping this is the best of all worlds.

If some day the Hopper does come back to me in a working form and stays that way, great. If not, well I'll just have to deal with that.

Do you carry it in your pocket? I know sometimes when I had mine in my pocket and would sit down or bending down, if the GH was in the right position my body would actually depress the switch down (not necessarily clicking it on) but making contact and heating it up.

I’ve posted my RMA experiences w GH so will not repeat them

Two new Ti bodies and still have the SS body they sent in one of their errors.

To work at all, they have to be on temp 5. I can get vapor thru glass honking on them but certainly not operating hot enough and certainly not the milk I used to get on temp 4 before failure. . AVB is def not fully extracted.

I don’t give a hoot any longer and don’t feel like doing the RMA dance w them again.

I don’t even try to use them much anymore.

Enough is enough, IMO.

I do, but mostly in a velcro flap-topped canvasy- tactical pouch of some sort (knife? tool? dunno its provenance) that occasionally is velcroed too tight, or the GH is off center and depresses slightly. That I know and avoid as much as possible, but ill occasionally have it wig out with a sliiiight lateral pressure on the clicker (to the side, but not hard) and I get a bit of springy sound when the clicker is rotated. it bugs out.
sometimes itll take 3-4 clicks to hold "on"

also, I think I do not have the temps at the top of the range:
just started going into glass (god help me- only two loads yet) and not milking, though technique I have little, and its not the new school breaking-bad-beaker type clear, it's old school JBD style glass, so can't see in THAT well to know. Natively the mouthpiece warms enough to agree with the general too hot too quick sentiment, but it's not giving instamilk, to be sure...

Ok I made it through one bowl no combustion. That's progress LOL. I was in between 3 and 4....

I don't think I'm going to go much higher LOL. 4 might be limit.

I'll keep posting results.

Why is this thing so damn good. LOL :-). So ripped right now from that one bowl. Damn it Hopper Labs!

Edit. Uh oh. Second one might have had combustion. Need another test. Also lowered dial. LOL.

Me the same . There will be great problems in the future : don't they understand that theyr customers are flying away ? It's normal , you think that your vape is the best in the world , then it has one issue , two , three, it takes geological era to get it back so you try something else . My Gh arrived at Labs on 25 april , it's the end of september and they say another two months . Seven months for changing a little piece of metal in the back end that has broken itself in two pieces ? Should I stay without vaping , or become crazy thinking when my Gh comes back ? Thake it easy , I had beautiful holydays without , if it comes back working it's ok, otherwise no problem , got something GOOD enough .

Ok update. Device definitely runs hot but no combustion yet. Was accidentally on temp 4 but no combustion but flavor was terrible.

Had a scare. Just red lights. No blue light. No heating up. Sprayed some compressed air in, back to working. Let’s give this baby another shot at 3.2 or so.
