Hey gang, I commented on George's video yesterday and he was kind enough to send me this well considered reply, I thought somebody here might find it interesting:

:)"Just for your info, Splinter Z is in beta, it is not certain that it will ever be released, and if it is, it won't be until 2019 at the earliest. It is a beast, but definitely more of a home unit, for use with water tools, not really a portable that works well with a mouthpiece like the Splinter :-) .. as for Splinter vs MV1, it kinda depends what you are after- MV1 gives you more accurate control over the temperature, and the convenience of crucibles which can be preloaded and used with the dispenser. It also functions well with concentrates and is just more "techy"- some people prefer this, while others prefer the simplicity and more intuitive, organic feel of the Splinter. Both are great and deliver cracking flavour and big rips. MV1 rips are probably a bit smoother, but with cooling mouthpiece Splinter isn't far off, and the flavour is slightly better with Splinter, even with cooling mouthpiece. Personally at the moment I find myself reaching for the Splinter more, but that could change with time! I rate both very highly.":)

Everything he said was actually kind of how I imagined he would describe things except it doesn't make sense but he's saying about the Splinter Z and the way you guys and girls are buying them as if this is going to be a regular thing?:hmm:

Anyway there you have it the words of the great man George from vapefiend he's a lovely guy.

George sounds a little misinformed.

George sounds a little misinformed.

According to tracking mines in route and should be here on Thursday. I was kinda surpriced since wasn't expecting this one for a few more weeks. From my understand this was a release and not a beta run.

They sold out fast and shipped fast. When the whole holes choice opened up thought it be while till it would ship. Was surprised when the shipping notice popped up in a email on Monday.

I snagged the last quilted maple and chose high flow when asked. Got an email from Ryan today saying there aren't enough of them so he's going to have to make me one out of a different wood. Really had my heart set on quilted maple but I'd rather have high flow.

@Stu - maybe sensor placement issue?
Puzzled by results. here's my uninformed babble to add confusion.

Maybe post placement issue instead - go ahead and move, I don't mind

I'm wondering about carb caps, too. Don't think pressure is a factor. I agree with the dnail guy in that streaming interview video with the vape grandfathers. It's an open system.

More likely to me: architecture

The structure transforms from open to sheltered using the carb cap

Without cap, it's an open sky of cool molecules rushing in.
With cap, architecture transforms into an insulating oven.

The smaller carb cap's hole air inlet adds turbulent mixing with its velocity.
Now it's a high velocity mixing convection toaster oven.
More heated molecules interacting with our precious

Interaction is a good thing
I'll definitely run some more tests a double-check my sensor placement. Maybe this weekend if I can get around to it and I'll be sure to report back my findings. I'll probably just make a new thread for it in the Vaporization Discussion section as it would be off-topic for this thread and deserves it's own discussion IMO.

:peace:

Just sit tight dude, you forgetting about RBTChina, lol. Who knows, if all goes smoothly we’ll all be getting our rbt gear from your neck of the woods eventually
RBT said eventually all splinters will be RBT China and Splinter Z will be built in US. Not sure what that means for international Z orders.

I don't think it's more of a home unit or less of a portable unit as it's only 1/3 larger than the Splinter or why it would work less well with a mouthpiece. Makes no sense. And I don't understand why he thinks it's only good for water use. Even if you got the 4-hole version, you can tape or plug the extra holes if you feel you need to for dry use. Well, actually, I do understand it: he's a businessman who wants to sell what he has in inventory.

Everything he said was actually kind of how I imagined he would describe things except it doesn't make sense but he's saying about the Splinter Z and the way you guys and girls are buying them as if this is going to be a regular thing?

I agree with you that it isn't a beta. The Splinter, which is the foundation for the Z, has been thoroughly tested in the real world -- it's just got a bigger heater. And Ryan did b-test this with his tried & true b-ters so there's no doubt it's ready for real world distribution. The only thing that might change in the Z is the unknown, patent-pending, proprietary element that is either going to change an already existing element or be added to the Splinter design that he mentioned in his IG stream a few days ago. The Splinter I have has China glass, the less dense mica & a copper screw & am in no way disappointed that it doesn't have these 3 upgrades.

Having (soon) a Z, and already a splinter, I probably will treat the Z as home unit. Even the splinter isn't small enough for my pipsqueak mod the eleaf pico. Particularly with the XL8R. Kept tipping over, so I picked up something more serious. Lost vape paranormal. No longer a problem.

I don't expect to go through this again with 30% more height, but you never know.

I own multiple @RastaBuddhaTao products because he's just so completely nailed the use cases and provided the experience I'm looking for. And ... Backups.

I was a pretty alarmed to watch the July blip that threatened the business. The prospect of being without his solutions, after an accident or breakdown, that's just not for me. I just don't see anyone else serving his particular niche.

I missed out on the Zion. I don't think I'll miss out on any of his major releases again, if I can be so lucky, so blessed to have such a talented artisan in the game.

Dynavap is also something pretty special. They'd be my go to if @RastaBuddhaTao and his products vanished. Really curious about that company's next steps.

UPDATE

RBT reports on 420vapezone that "More Zion heaters should be arriving early next week so more should be available in 2-3 weeks."

So what wood you decide on? I considered switching but decided to stick with the birdseye maple.

It was a limited domestic release at best imo. I emailed RBT about acquiring one and was ignored.

One small gripe I has on the Splinter_z release was that I didn't receive a notice thru the newsletter or a email. I kinda thought that the benefit of being on the the list? I been waiting on this and woulda missed it if wasn't for the forums.

Personally feel both the splinter and splinter_Z are more home units. With the glass comes lost of portability for me.

I hear it was splinter Z #launchday at Chez Ryan. 20 units launched into the cosmos, customers headed for orbit. Exciting!

Mine should be here Thursday. Looking forward to this one since I passed on the Zoin preorders. Hopefully this comes close or is possible even better than the Zoin. I'm hopeful that it might be possible using a high quality mod.

I just don't see anyone else serving his particular niche.

Just kinda curious what niche is that? I can think of couple similar devices to the Milaana and splinter that are currently available.

Bubinga was the only wood he offered. Told him if he happened to have any more quilted maple I'd prefer that but either would be fine. Guessing it'll be bubinga.

Competing devices (in my experience) are nowhere near as good. I hated my Lil' Bud. Haven't had a chance to try stem pod or iheat but from what I've been told by people who have neither are really up to par with the Splinter.

I got my Splinter from Vapefiend this afternoon. Very impressed so far and easy to use. I just want Ryan to stop treating anyone outside of the USA as a second rate customer. Actually Canada is second rate and I'm more like third rate. I love my Milaana and already love the Splinter.

I guess was looking at the niche splinter was in as more covering portable demand convection type vaporizers. Not as much as personally preference of what one is the best. I find plus and minus in all them.

Right now it's a toss up btw iheat and splinter for home. The splinter draw is a little more restricted than I would like. The mica also affect the resistance values making splinter harder to set up and work in TC mode. Takes more tweaking of material file on a DNA mod to get the best temperature response.

Hard to tell performance difference btw iheat and splinter. For years milaana was my DD so become use to it's signature. The splinter close but there's draw restriction. The iheat has better draw but slightly different signature. Guess it makes it hard to tell if I more used to the RBT or if it's better smoother hit than the iheat. There really close enough I haven't decided. Look wise love the smaller size and wood used in my iheat.

On the milaana I have had shitty luck with the glass and breakage. So hoping the lil bud suits me better here. I also like the battery placement better on lil bud. Draw style different on lil bud. It's hotter so warmup unneeded. When first got it took some relearning. If using like a milaana your going hate it.
Once I get a spring from Dan the Nomad might replace them both.

With my elevape needing a replacement battery lead me to the stempod. Been super happy with that one.

Guess my point is there other similar device and hard to say there only one in this niche. So was curious of what he based that statement on.

Splinter 2 holes Splinter_z is 4 holes.
Not as much a heavy ripper more a heavy user. Find the effect from vaping only last hour or so before the shaking returns. If I don't treat it it intensify the longer I wait. If I wait too long triggers overall worsening in my condition where will require me to resort to pain pills. So tend to vape at least a stem or 2 hourly to keep things under controlled.

So i love the ease of these devices. There easy to keep clean work reliable that can withstand heavy use. When your vaping this much the resistance becomes more a hassle than a blessing. Vaping is more a means to end the than a enjoyable experience many days. So having choice of different signatures experiences is important to me.

I get it. If I lived outside of the US I might feel similar but let's face it, it's his business and he can run it how he wishes. I do know that shipping internationally has its challenges on many levels including customer service (language barrier), shipping and customs (both time and cost) as well as warranty. None of which are Ryan's strong suites so I understand why he is looking to set up strategic partners to help in those areas (VF and Planet Vape). Beyond that there is more demand for his products here in the US. Some of that is based on poplulation alone (California the same size as Canada). My suggestion for international folks intent on acquiring the goods is to hook up with a member here to help . There are plenty of friendly US FC members who would act as a forwarder for you.

Copied info from 420vape forum....

Hey folks... Thanks to all for selling out the Splinter Z in record time! Over the last few days the Zion's share of them shipped. The Z-team beta guys need theirs along with a few that are still pending due to some wood and high flow unit shortages. Working hard to get the rest out in the next few days which should make for a weekend of Z clouds. Wood selection is now limited to Bubinga until the next run of wood in a few weeks. More Zion heaters should be arriving early next week so more should be available in 2-3 weeks. Until then there are plenty of Splinter US (exotic wood and heavy wall German glass like the Z), Mi2 and XLx's for sale.

I have to confess that I have been thinking back over the Z-team early days.... farting grammas, puking bikers, high Yodas and a whole bunch of highdeas. It was hard to admit Zion was just an R&D test bed... but that is all it really needed to be. A big block of wood to house a new technology that takes advantage of a High Surface Area heater that could rapidly get to temperature with fully saturated air that the experts said was dope.... but what a garage shop half ass piece of crap wood around that great heater tech lol.... But I was smart enough to kill Zion before it killed RBT and strong willed enough to push through the shit show of getting them out... magnets falling out, units stuck on high temperature, hundreds of hours of routing, soldering and sanding.... honing the skills and designs for Milaana.... which bore improvements with Splinter... who called on an old friend Zion to make the Z. Now that infamous Zion tech has the improvements of Milaana heater optimizations, Mi2 and Splinters pressure drop improvements and oooooooh that Phat Ass German Glass and exotic woods really brings the flagship to a respectable form factor. So, she is back like bell bottoms with more flare than ever. Such a fitting way to fill out the product line.

So so so many people have helped throughout the years donating your free time to advance the spirit of RastaBuddhaTao. You all know who you are and please know how grateful I am to you all... collectively your literally saved my life by supporting my crazy dream. To all of you who tried to stop me... you will make living well so so so much sweeter

First time read the info there. The whole threads worth a read. Sounds like a one cell mod might struggle with the higher wattage on the splinter Z.

Haven't seen many reports on the TC performance on the Z. Going be a fun day of testing tomorrow. Not sure how the heater change going affect resistance with current dna material file. Have a few to try before I attempt to make one.

Hopefully will update FCSHARE file once find one that works. Not a lot Z out there and even less on a DNA mod so might not update till return from trip. I will try to post the material file on this thread if anyone needs it. Or if current splinter cvs is unusable with the Z.

Leaving out this weekend camping. Really debating about taking the Z along this time :)
