@Hackerman, I don't understand why you refer to your Eleaf iStick Power as 2 battery as it has a non-removable built in 5000mah LiPo battery. :hmm:

Yeah, I thought the battery inside was 'equal' to a 2 battery mod. So, I incorrectly referred to it as such.

However, I thought it was basically the same lithium ion battery. So, it is lithium polymer?

Hackerman,
Thanks... it's all French to me. This Wismec is the first removable battery unit I bought. I just bought a Nitecore i2 for charging.

The Splinter is working OK in TCR mode for now. Just FYI

Hey everyone. :) Please may I pick some brains. I am looking things up but am slow to peruse and conclude, and I get overwhelmed in the process when facing avwhole new world.

So I am fairly intent on buying the Splinter from Vapefiend. They sell the Wismec Rouleaux for £64, but is nearly half that price here:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B019N2DAA2/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

So I would need:
Splinter £129 ,
Wismec (or other better recommended?) £37,
Then just batteries and a charger right?

Are there any specific recommendations or contraindications for batteries? I have never had a battery powered vape before and have zero knowledge and experience of this whole area. My learning abilities are very compromised so I'm hoping somebody could save me some anxiety with a little direction.

Do you all recommend the Sony VTC5A's? They are only 2600 mah. Is 3300 better?

And I assume any battery charger from Amazon will be sufficient? Im thinking it makes sense to get a 4 battery charger?

One final query- has anybody tried using concentrates with the splinter? Maybe with a ceramic health stone or some hemp fibre? I guess it would only be possible through water and a gong adaptor?

Massive thank you for any advice and direction.

For batteries if you can wait about one month (I assume you are in Europe right?) then get them cheaper (sometimes but not always) from Fasttech (https://www.fasttech.com/) and make sure the word "authentic" is written somewhere near the product title. Otherwise you can get them reliably from NKON in the Netherlands (https://eu.nkon.nl/) or from AkkuTeile in Deutschland (https://www.akkuteile.de/)

For a multi-cell vape I would recommend the Samsung 30Q (my favorite cell) or the LG HG2. I have a single Sony VTC6 for testing and it's been so far super disappointing on top of costing way more than the others. You'll get more runtime and unless you start vaping at crazy high power (like above 120W) then you should be using them well inside their nominal current range.

As for the charger try getting a genuine Nitecore (so no aliexpress, dhgate, ebay, amazon etc) they are cheap and properly calibrated. If you are broke, you can get cheap $1 power banks for a single cell with USB charging, this time on aliexpress *but* you'll need to have a voltmeter to check that they are not overcharging. In all cases, never let charging cells unattended, always remove them from the charger when you leave the house.

Ultimately, these cells are dangerous, so read the 18650 battery safety thread here >> http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/18650-battery-safety.18527/

Remember that 510 device is only half of whats needed to get a great hit. The quality of mod going greatly affect the outcome.

Depending on usage you might be able hold off on battery charger. Years ago was a no no to charge batteries inside device. With the DNA chip and other newer chips built in charging is ok.
I tend just plug mods in and charge batteries inside mod. The DNA 250 charge fast and can adjust the battery profile for rate of charging and discharging.

Personal would look at a good 2-3 cell device. Put the money there first. If you feel later you need a charger can take time to catch a good sale. If not a heavy user a 3 battery mod will last you a while before needing to charge it. Least a couple hundred hit depending on the mod. So might even be able to get by without charger.

I personally like DNA devices for home. Then another inexpensive mod that does cruise for when out and about. The DNA is the better experience but rather not risk breaking a expensive splinter/DNA250c combo.

With lossing use of my hand muscles I'm becoming much clumser so splinter is for home use. Others may not need 2 setups. In that case really comes down to how useful cruise will be to you vs a better hit, along with your budget. Either way I wouldn't cheap out on the mod. It's going make or break the experience in TC mode.

For a multi-cell vape I would recommend the Samsung 30Q (my favorite cell) or the LG HG2

Totally agree I use the LG HG2 because there a tad smaller. In my wismec dna250 battery door does close with the samsungs. Heard the new lost vape trinde is also a tight fit.

Here's a link with some mod suggestion.

Cloudy...
I personally love my DNA 250c with my splinter. Has become my only used vape lately, splinter for flowers and rig for concentrates!

I'm using 3 vtc6 with it and I usually charge them in the same mod even tho I have a charger. DNA mods are totally worth the price, if you happy spending 99 pounds on a proper mod, let me know and I will send you the link where I got mine + batteries in UK, next day delivery :)

Thank you all so much guys I really appreciate you all jumping in with very generous and helpful advice. You have just proved in no time at all what an excellent team of knowledgeable and friendly members just place still is despite it's many cobwebs and cracks.

So kind of you all to share such thorough information.
Okay, I am happy to leave the charger aside for now. I have other devices so I'm sure I can work around charging if it is actually ok to charge in the mod.
@HerbieVonVapster and @b0 your DNA 250 mod looks sweet but too much for me atm. Maybe later.

So I'm thinking I might as well just swing for the Wismec Reuleaux for starters.

I found these battery options cheap enough it seems:
https://18650.uk/product/samsung-30q/
https://uk.gearbest.com/batteries/pp_571928.html
I will keep checking for best price and I guess just pick from these, or one of the others you guys have quoted.

Okay plenty to go on thanks so much again for all being here for those of us in need of advice. :tup:

I wouldn't buy from gearbest tho. There are a lot of counterfeit cells around. The sources I gave you are known to be safe.
Thanks man, I appreciate that and I will avoid them. Ideally I would prefer to get them from UK, for cost and ship times.
These guys say :

"18650.UK will always supply Grade ‘A’ authentic batteries, complete with a free battery case for storage and protection"
https://18650.uk/product/samsung-30q/
I would be happy to get these and presume they are legit, UNLESS anybody has some strong doubts. Thanks again, Im fighting frequent compulsions to order the Splinter throughout the day.

Except I'm really not supposed to be buying anymore vapes until I come successfully sell some of the items I have some of which are brand new but all in excellent condition and good vapes too, when I can finally manage to make things happen.

But Im not sure I can wait any longer, this Splinter has really caught my attention and I'm interested to try a totally different style of vaporizer and I have confidence that these devices might actually be quite well tolerated by me compared to the super powerful desktops which I have the bizarre and extreme allergic type reaction to.

I want an on demand portable for out and about, but the splinter also looks really fun and effective using through water and I would definitely like to be making good use out of it at home this way.

Hi all , can you help. Have a milaana and am trying to justify a splinter , apologies if it's been posted previously but are there any major differences flavour / vapour etc or are they similar in quality. Appreciate any answers thanks

I didn’t have my wattage locked like I should and accidentally dry fired for 6 seconds today at 111 watts during a preheat.. instant combustion.

Im curious, should I be concerned about damage to the heater mesh?

I'm sure you are fine. I had the button on my Milaana stuck on for several minutes. Picked up the unit and it was hot af, showed a slight burn on the outside wood, tasted a bit like burnt wood for a bit but in the end the heater was fine!

to add my :2c: to this thread - yesterday i tried my Splinter with an unground Nug, just stuffed it in the stem so that the Basket Screen was relatively tight filled.
I liked the result more than i had thought, still good clouds but a bit longer session and more hits with nice flavour....

Other than that, i still just use Wattage mode at 40W with the releaux gen3 / 2 batteries mod.
Never used juice so its my first and only Mod, if anybody has the same and tried other modes i would be happy to hear about your prefered settings...

I have one of the last older Splinters with the slightly longer stems from @VapeFiend.com - any chance to get one of these newer RBT cooling stems with the pinches for it?

@Alexis - interesting that you think you will tolerate this Vaspe quite good, wouldn t have thought this. for me, it s not the easiest on the throat and i think you were allergic to much "purer" ones?

Have a great day!

Just went to weed-gadget -- Italy. Looks like they will be carrying the Splinter, Z & StemPod -- just not available at this time. It's one fucked up website. No search feature, the addy links don't reflect correctly & I don't know how I found the Splinter Z page, but I can't re-find it.

Summer,
About 20% of the time I use my Splinter, it says, "Atomizer Short". Then, I have to unscrew it and screw it back on. Then, sometimes it works and sometimes it says, "Atomizer Short" again. Eventually, it always works again.

Is that a bad thing?
