I know it is not the original, but I love this version.

this song has been done a number of times and it is almost always good.

BTW if anyone knows how to properly link this song in the page please advise me and I will change it.

Thats almoxt an impossible question.

Dark Star from Dicks' Picks 4

Mountain Jam from Eat A Peach

I Walk On Gilded Splinters from Performance Rockin' The Fillmore

Europa from Lotus

As The Years Go Passing By from Santane Live At The Fillmore

Man Of Leo from Go Live In Paris

Theme For An Imaginary Western from Twin Peaks

Dark Star->Spanish Jam->US Blues

Morning Dew from varied performances

A Pirate Looks At 40 from Live At Wrigley Field (ok, I was at that show)

Close To The Edge from Yesshows

Star Spangled Banner from Woodstock

Theme From An Italian Restaurant from Live New Years Eve

There was also a performance years ago by Lou Reed on either Don Kirscheners Rock Concert or The Midnight Special that was unforgettable. I do not know the name of the song but it had the line 'She was like a photograph, just like Mary Queen of Scots'.

No hesitation on my part. The whole song is about 17 minutes long. Mostly tribal chanting. A live version played at stonehenge clocks in around 21:35 called 'Sound....shouldn't....improvise'. A rambling meandering song that either highlights free form jazz playing ability or stoned debauchery :)

For me, It's Jessica, Duanne Allman's version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oidm5Zfw_SA&feature=related

This piece always reminded me of driving fast down a leafy autumnal road with the top down on a sunny day. The song has a locomotion to it: traveling on. To me, this screams "road trip". Great instrumental

That song has some of the strangest lyrics. I mangle it with gusto on my guitar.

Procol Harum played their first show and, I believe, recorded their first album with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra... I'm from Edmonton! My bass teacher joined the symphony just after that recording. I feel connected in 3 degrees

lol. I know, but for some odd reason, it's those lyrics that really strike a chord with me. I have no idea why. The words just seem to play off of each other really nice.

It was one of the main songs on "the big chill" soundtrack which I still think is one of the best movie soundtracks of all time. that is a different thread. :)

I'd have to The Misfits 'Bullet', off the Static Age album, its what got me into punk rock.

One great overlooked classic is the "sequel" to "Hey There Little Miss Riding Hood" by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs , "The Hair On My Chinny-Chin Chin."

The Ob,
That Pink Floyd tune gave me the chills too. I have every Pink Floyd vinyl album, cassette, and CD made. There is so much other stuff that trying to pick one is near impossible. Just some that I am partial to:
Jethro Tull - Locomotive Breath & Aqualung, Queen - Fat Bottom Girls, Warren Zevon- Werewolves of London ("he'll rip your lungs out Jim") , just about anything from AC/DC and Tom Waits. I could go on but you get the point, it's hard to pick just one.
