Purple Days w/ Bong setup - 100, 250, 500 ml?

Hi all. I've been using the PD for a good 6 months or so now and my experience has been on par with the rest of FC (beyond fantastic). My intention since I bought it has been to buy a bong.. but I'm a college student strapped for cash, so it's taken some time to get around to making that purchase.

Anyhow, I've read favorable reviews about the EHLE 100 and 250 ml coupled with the PD. They can be found on EDIT for $40 and up. However, GrassCity is currently offering the EHLE 500 ml for $60 and I have a 25% off coupon, making that $45 for the 500 ml.

All of the bongs in question have 14.5 mm joints, making them compatible with the PD. My question therefore regards the optimal chamber size for the PD bong. I know I can clear a 500 ml chamber in one hit, but I haven't seen many people using larger bongs on this forum.

It seems like a waste of money in my position to buy the 100 ml instead of the 500 ml with costs being nearly identical. Is there a reason PD owners prefer smaller bongs? Should I hold off on buying the 500 ml for $45 and buy the 100 ml for $40? This bong will only be used to vape.

TIA

I think the only possible detractions would be slightly more condensation loss, and possibly (but not certainly) less dense hits.

EDIT: looks like minnesowta says it'll probably be a lot less cloudy, but you can always reduce the volume with beads

Well if your going to use it with the pd you don't want to go to large. It just doesn't work well with bigger ones. That's why you see alot o people with the 100ml. But if your gonna smoke out of it that thing is a bit too small. Unless your into small rips.

I'd say something in the 250ml to 500ml is as big as you'd want to go. That's roughly 35-45cm (14-16") tall. I had a 35cm roor that was used for both. Pd didn't cloud it up as much as I'd like but it got the job done and It worked magnificently combusting as well.

I'd probaly buy a lil bigger because you can always add beads to it to take some air volume out if it is too big.

Ehle is a great brand that doesn't tax as much for the same stuff as other companies. They're good quality at a good price. I'm thinking about picking up a 250ml to use strictly for oil. And I miss how fast a straight tube clears.

Yeah, it would take just too much work to try and fill a 500ml bong from the small bowl and restricted airflow of a PD type vape.

Thanks a bunch panasonic. I was thinking along the same lines but I guess I'm not as handy with the search function as I thought I was. So with the beads, I would see more condensation due to the greater surface area the smoke passes through before clearing the chamber.. but also denser hits due to less total volume in the chamber.

How much additional condensation loss are we talking about here? At some point, I imagine the bead surfaces would be somewhat saturated.. limiting additional condensation loss. Maybe I'll find some non-polar beads and go with that. It sounds like the 500 ml chamber may work with some tinkering. I'll give it a shot. If it doesn't work out I can probably sell the bong to a friend considering the deal I'm getting on it.

A PD is more than capable of filling each, it really comes down personal preference. The 100ml provides the most direct/concentrated hit and fills/clears instantly. 250 is a nice middle ground. 500 is fun to milk but if you want something specifically for use with the PD the smaller sizes are a better fit imo.

Vids. The 100ml isn't as awkward to use with a PD as it looks in the vid. I was hunched over, balancing on my toes on the edge of a landing trying to get a good camera angle in the sun. The shorter PD tubes definitely make it easier though.

Wow, I'm getting really excellent feedback. I remember your 100 ml youtube video being one of the primary reasons I bought this vape. I didn't know you had the other sizes as well.

Say I fill the 500 ml EHLE with 250 ml of beads, making the volume difference between the two chambers (for the most part) moot. Which EHLE-PD combo do you think is better ergonomically, the 250 or 500 ml?

Since you have 25% off it is a good time to get something nice, I would step it up to a 5mm EHLE, you will not be sorry. Check the one in the link, it comes out to $93.19 with your discount, kick ass deal for a tube that you could keep as a daily driver for years.

Edit: I read your post again and realized your coupon was from grasscity instead of Edit, their selection is not that great but if I were you, I would go with the 250ml, it is right in the middle and everyone seems to like that size for vaporizing since the hit wont be as airy as the 500ml and you won't have to clear it multiple times like the 100ml. Plus at that glass thickness, the larger the tube, the easier it will break if you drop it.

How stable is a 100 vs 250ml when resting on a table?
They are short and well designed with a low center of gravity, so to answer your question, pretty stable.

abhs: This may be out of your price range but they have a killer sale right now on a US Tube, this thing is built like a tank and it is blown in the USA.

I was never a fan of the 100ml. They won't stand by themselves with a pd on it. Shit with a ti curve no smokes wants to tip over which I don't like one bit. Get a 250 with ice pinches so you have the option for ice if you want. 500s are a lil on the big side but that's ok for some people. And since the pd is a bit on the restrictive side it will take a long time to milk it.

Syn 38 mini straights would be a good call too. If you want a little better quality I'd go syn. They use 18mm joints on all their bongs so finding a diffy is easier. (the smaller ehles run 14s which force you to buy a ehle diffy which are sub par)

Oh I thought he was lookin at straits. Pd on my beaker is just fine too. Same on my old roor, and the circ. The base on the 100ml ehles are tiny. Like super tiny. I bet my oil bub has a bigger foot print and that things reaaal small as well....pic to show how small and I don't have gigantic hands either

I'm getting more and more sold on the HVY Mini Beaker. Seems like it is the right size, stable, and the downstem doesn't poke out so much.. negating the need for a shorter PD tube like with the EHLE.

:D Hey i was reading here about the Bongs and i am just not sure which would be the BEST Bong to use for the "Purple-Days" vaporizer.
-stinkmeaner
You gave us a nice looking bong, but you also gave us another one that is more expansive.
im new to Vaporizers and i would like to know which water bong is best to get?
I want a Big Bong so i can just sit and hit, but i want a good hit 2 that saves weed.. would the 250ml or 500ml be best for me?
Thank you

Also you gave us a link to one Bong and i found a Bong that looks just like it exept a bit cooler..
Would both these bongs do exacly the same and give the same good smoking quality?

I have the 100ml and 250ml for my PD. I prefer the 250ml. Better size. Your hits aren't quite as milky as with the 100ml but they are still great. 500 seems too big.

Yeah that bubble will be closer to 500 if not waaaay more. Beakers add alot of air volume and that thing is 16" tall. For the pd that would be too much. I have a 16" 9mm mini beaker (so the foot is smaller than that one) and it's too much air volume for my liking. With the pd anyways.

If you want a beaker look into mini beakers. A full size one is too much for the pd unless your ok with not being able to get a real good milk.

Followup -

I got the 500 ml EHLE after much deliberation. It was too good a deal to pass up for me (40$).

After a few weeks with it, I love it! Good size for if you would like to bong with or without water.

I'll be putting my PD together this week from the Pandora kit, really looking forward to getting to know it. I've been wanting that HVY mini beaker - but it's been out of stock for a while. I keep checking every week or two, and I think the price actually went up since I've been checking - it was $40 and is now $50. I'm sure it's still a good price, but as it can't be had, I'm wondering if I ought to go ahead and get the Ehle 100mL. Or should I wait for the HVY to become available again?

EDIT later to add, the mini straight came back in stock then sold out again, so I ended up getting this one:

...and I love it! Cool and smooth. I love how when you put an ice cube or two in the neck, the vapor curls around it in tendrils.

go for 500 ml. i pack PD bowls halfway for ample air flow and then just use it as a one-hitter. not too much drag.

I'm lovin' my Hvy-minibeaker. I wonder what the volume is. I'm guessing it around 200.

I'm thinking of ordering the 250ml, is the diffuser highly recommended? How is the hit with the regular one?

its not bad with the stock, i started freezing water at the bottom of the b0ng about 1/2 inch thick just about at the bottom of the down stem, it keeps the water colder longer ;) ... this wouldn't be possible without diff hehe

As for the HVY mini beaker- it is awesome. It's well made, has no label (small HVY inlaid in the front), and was so worth the money. I picked mine up at my LHS for $65. That said, I much prefer using my bubbler with the PD. I use my HVY with the Q- which I am using as I type this. I just found that I had to work too hard to get good hits with the beaker and the PD. Since the bubbler is so small, it just seems to pull better in that situation.

My shop also had the HVY mini tubes for $55. I'll probably grab one of those soon. I think that the mini tube might be better for the PD. IMO.

that's a hot tip, about the light pack for vaporbonging the PD. Just tried it out and it makes a huge difference in airflow. I think i'll be doing that every time now.

actually, i had been about to argue for the 100 size, but just tried out the light pack in my mahoney reperc, which is something > 250 and it worked great. I still think 500ml is pushing it though.
