@JCat thanks for doing the wonderful job on the crafty. I just got my crafty a couple of days ago and have been worrying on the battery life (i just found out the battery barely last 100hrs after receiving it)

Now that i found this forum, i guess i will pretty chill with battery knowing that i can get a replacement pack if s&b being a pain for my warranty.

At the rate of my vaping, i bet my crafty would not last past 4 month.

Thanks again for doing this.

Hey everyone ... just a quick post here to note that the new price on the packs is $45 USD instead of $40 USD. The cost of batteries has been slowly climbing for me. (My shipping cost has doubled, and I've started getting dinged for duty on every shipment). These 2 things combined, it's now at the point where I really do need to raise my price by $5 to cover my increased costs. I've done my best to keep costs the same by increasing order size etc and stocking more parts, but am at the limit of what I can do considering the small volume of packs I sell.

Thanks for understanding everyone!

@JCat, my Crafty’s battery is not charging but the Crafty turns on for a second to flash the low battery blue lights, so I know it’s working. When I plug in the charger it does the initial “I’m about to charge” vibration but then doesn’t charge. It’s at 70 hours. S&B won’t help me. Can a battery replacement solve this? When I connect to the app, it always just says Low Battery, Charge Crafty but it won’t charge :(

You have any solutions or ideas?

It is possible it's your battery, however, the fact that it doesn't take a charge at all (did this happen all of a sudden?), kinda' makes me lean towards it being the circuit board (ie. the charge circuit, possibly more). I've seen one other unit pretty much just like that, with the same behaviour, and it was indeed the circuit board.

Are you outside the 2yr warranty period? If not I would push S&B to honour their warranty as I don't think that sounds like a battery issue ... :(

@JCat, I have a Crafty with 156 hours on it. I saw the battery overheating message on my phone one day, it worked fine the next, and on the third, it started shutting off before reaching temperature. Maybe the battery is overheating even more and there is some sort of safety circuit? S&B replaced it twice and now it's out of warranty and they say 79 to 179 for a new battery. Do you think it is worth trying to replace the battery and if so, how do I order one from you? Thanks!

Well @ $79 that's a pretty good price. @ $179 that's getting pretty expensive!

If you send me a private message with your address info I can give you a shipping quote. Could be the battery or could be the thermal fuse. If the battery is getting weak it would make sense that it is generating excess heat though (unless your heat is coming from elsewhere)

Sorry but I can't figure out how to send a PM with this interface. I am near the other Ontario, CA. The one in California. My zip is 92509. Maybe you can PM and then I will smart enough to figure out how to reply?

Is the thermal fuse the black thing that looks like a match that was flopping around in front of the battery in your video? Is it replaceable? Thanks and sorry for being an idiot.

I have custom Crafty Battery Packs available for easy replacement of your battery pack. I started this project as I felt there should be an easy replacement available, that didn't require shipping your vaporizer back, especially for those of us with a vaporizer out of warranty.

CwPRH2T.jpg

These battery packs come ready to install with a pre-soldered wiring harness that meets or exceeds the specifications of the original. These are perfect for those of you that don't want to spend the time, don't have the tools, or simply aren't comfortable enough, to de-solder and re-solder the wiring harness from the original battery to a new one.

I've also sourced appropriate name brand cells with tabs for optimal performance based on others feedback in this forum, which guided my research (thanks @Vambo1980 for pointing me towards the Sony VTC6 3120mAh cell and for other inspiration and for answering my questions :)) The wire used for the harness is silver plated and rated for high current and low temperature operation.

I'm selling these packs for $40 USD + shipping.

The following are the instructions for installing your battery pack:

http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=09116962006551867733

And here's the video instructions for installing the pack (doesn't cover removing the existing pack completely though, as I'm removing my custom pack and installing another one of my custom packs):

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments!

I’m out of town until tonight, and am currently waiting for more stock. Should hopefully have them tomorrow, Canada Post strikes have been delaying things ... should have had them a week ago.

I’ll PM you in the next couple days when I have them.

Thanks!

Gotta give thumbs up for JCat.

No, I haven’t yet installed his Crafty battery pack but can/must give credits to his service. Prompt customer service, fast shipment and delivery time etc. The pack looks well crafted.

I have 100% confidence that the pack will give my Crafty another life.

It’s possible to DIY the change totally by yourself but this saves time and trouble. And if you’re like me - not so crafty ;) - this pack probably lowers the odds of messing the whole unit in the process.

Hi everyone ... super news after a really, really long wait! (am I ever tired of answering PM's saying that no I don't currently have any, but they've been on order for weeks/months ...)

After FedEx finally indicating they thought they lost my package earlier this week, and telling me on the phone they didn't even think it made it to Canada despite what their online tracking said, then all of a sudden today, my package miraculously shows up!

Very happy to finally have these ... I will send out a PM to all those that contacted me and are waiting, but if I miss you, I apologize and please reach out.

I can ship out packs on Monday :)

Gotta give thumbs up for JCat.

I’ll repeat my thumbs up.

Those screws are nasty if working with shitty cheap chinase micro screwdriver set, I’ll tell you that. A new set is my next investment as now my micro tool set is in the garbage bin...

I missed the latest pdf instruction and started to test charging while case was still open - got red/green flashing error. Quick message to JCat and got instant online support. JCat navigated me through the problem and then I wrestled gently assembling the case. But it worked out well when not forcing the case but gradually improved how the pack and wires were placed.

I was lucky getting instant online support and I wouldn’t rely JCat being online always. Check the pdf and the youtube video, and don’t force anything.

Now charging and quite happy with my setup of having Crafty and Mighty.

Hello @JCat I have a crafty with more than 137hours of use. It keeps saying low battery charge baterry. but will not turn on. it give flashes like it will begin chargin but eventually doesnt charge. this is my second crafty after having my first replace by S & B before. They said they would not be able to repair my crafty but can only give me a discount on a new one. i read here that it may be a circuit board issue but i would like to try one of your battery packs to make sure i get the most out of it. It is truly a great vaporiser but for these battery issues. Let me know how i can contact you to get my order running.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. Recently my Crafty battery has died on me. I'm not sure how many hours it had since I really don't use the app that much. I know my Crafty has been my main vape as I used it at least once a day for 3 years as I had it since October 2015.
I would like to thank all of your for your help and technical posts, videos, specially JCat with his tutorial of how to replace a Crafty's battery. Very helpful indeed and I wouldn't be able to do it without such help.
I've bought online a Panasonic/Sanyo NCR18650GA 3350mAh 10A with tabs attached to replace my Crafty old battery. I followed all the instructions provided in JCat tutorial, did all the wires soldering and then I reassembled my Crafty and fully charge it.
During the 1st session it worked just fine for like 10-15 minutes and the heating up time was also much faster than when I was using the older battery and I was all happy thinking my Crafty was revitalised and that using a larger capacity battery would give me at least 15-20% extra battery capacity.
But during my second session after 5-10 minutes using my Crafty it started shutting down all the time after it reached the precise temperature for vaping and I would have to let it cool down for some minutes in order to let me turn it on again, but then after one or 2 minutes it would shut down again. I know the Crafty and Mighty shuts down when It's too hot, but it wasn't like that, it would keep shutting down all the time after 10-15 seconds when it was hot, it would not wait the current time where it's expected to shut down by itself. It would not let me vape accordingly.

I then realised that I did not use a PVC Heat shrink wrap, as I thought my battery did come with some source of wrapping plastic material that resembles this PVC material, which I found out later that it was just an electric isolator, not thermal. The seller told me that.
The battery indicator was still showing a mid charge battery, since it would blink the blue led very slowly, so it did not seen as the battery was running out and I had only used it for like 20-25 minutes max.

I then ordered online some PVC heat shrink wrap for 18650 batteries which was quite cheap. After I got my mail with the PVC I once again opened up my Crafty in order to install it. I then used a hair blow dryer to make the PVC tightly attached to the battery with the wires and thermal sensor inside it. I'm not very skilled with this stuff as I never did such thing in my life, but it looked like I did it right. I will also post some pics that I took prior to closing my Crafty shell plastic parts.

I really thought my Crafty was shutting down all the time when it reached the desired temperature because the battery was overheating due to the lack of using a proper heat shrink wrap and the thermal sensor was doing that to prevent the battery from frying I guess.

The thing is after I've reassembled my Crafty and try to use it again I still had a mid battery charge like I've mentioned before, but after turning it on for only a minute it shut down once again and I got a fast blue blinking light showing me that the battery was completely drained. I found that quite strange since I had only used my Crafty for 25 minutes max after a full charge. Prior to using it agai the battery indicator was showing a slow blue blinking light which means I still had at least 20-30 minutes battery charge, so WTF?

This was yesterday when I finally installed the PVC heat shrink wrap that I had just received, but I haven't used it again since this weird issue with the battery discharging took place.
I then left my Crafty charging overnight and now has fully charged battery with the indicator showing a still bright blue light, no blinking.

I really thought that installing the PVC would solve the suddens shut downs my Crafty was experiencing, but after what happened yesterday it made me have second thoughts if something is wrong with the battery, the way I placed the wires (despite I followed JCat tutorial all the way through) or something else, or for some reason the battery is lasting only 20 minutes instead of an hour as I was expecting that as it's a larger capacity battery compared to the older original one that used to last 45 minutes.

I still need to use it again (now that I have placed the PVC heat shrink wrap) to see if the new battery will die on me once again after one session and a half like it happened before having the thermal PVC attached to the battery.

I'll update my post once I tried it again and I really appreciate any help and thoughts. Sorry for my English as I'm from Brazil and for the huge text, but I really wanted to explain with details the issues I have experienced.
