I got my revised vrod yesterday, new everything since my coil was stuck in the head ... I'm noticing so far with this one though, my temps seem much higher to achieve the same results with concentrates ... I'm running probably 75-100F higher than I was with my previous VROD ... the IR gun shows quite the discrepancy between the dish temp and the coil temp too (175-200F)

I was running at 585F, and this seems to have a cooler dish at 650F ... 585F for flowers still seems the same though ... so it's heat transfer to the SiC dish, not to the body ... hmmm ...

I have been doing my dabs in the glass bowl on top of my flower which is fine grind and half full.
It gives me 5 massive, tasty thick pulls.
Since im using the highfive sic dish (which is more shallow than the newvape one) it seems my flower temp (570) and my dab temps (620) did not jive.
I have been away but my new vrod package (same as you new coil, top and bottom, sic dish, carb cap. since mine was fused together) is at home waiting for me.

Will let you know how mine is temp wise.

Wow lots of vrod heads that are fused together. I'm waiting to hear from NV about the same issue. I hope it Rev3 transfers heat as good as the Rev1 vrod. @JCat are you using the Dnail sic dish or the NV one. I wonder if the well being bigger where the dish sits is an issue with the Dnail dish?

Newvape told me in a support email that an early rev of the v-rod had an issue with the threading burring during install on the coil causing it to get stuck.

Im very happy @NewVape710 sent me everything first and then I will ship the whole bit of the early, stuck revision back to newvape in a return label.
I was worried about going 2 weeks without the power of the V-ROD.

I hope NV helps me out. I tweaked the well where the dish goes trying to get it loose with pipe wrenches. I’m back to the wraparound for now.

If you can, get one for the sake of dabs, and a SiC dish, the taste improvement on dabs is well worth it. Its pretty much the same experience with flower as the SH so you know how that goes with regards to the carb cap. Dabs its essential to have, IMHO.
@Danksta hey dude! Just to chime in here and say that the vape critic recently acquired the Vrod. He decided fairly quickly that he preferred it to the Showerhead which he has now passed on for the specific reason that he felt he always needed to use the carb cap with the Showerhead to get the dense vapor and fast extractions he likes, but he feels that the carb cap is completely unnecessary to get optimal extraction from flower using the Vrod.

There was a post where someone had found a Mason jar on Amazon that fit right into the area where the debowler is located. Does anyone know where it is? I like the idea of dumping the vaped weed into the jar, instead of messing up the beautiful round accessory holder.

I'll stick with the SH then.

LOL at needing a cap to use the SH. It's not that difficult. Different strokes I guess.

Thanks for the info @Alexis

I'll put my energy towards wanting a MACOR bowl now :D

As a new VROD bundle owner last night I figured out the equation for great weed vaping .

1. 2 scoops weed
2. Heat soak Flowerpot at 580.
3. Place Flowerpot on Shovelhead bowl. Place Carb Cap on.
4. Start drawing at a moderate rate. Remove Carb Cap after 1 sec.
5. Draw in bong vapor.
6. Remove Flowerpot and place on stand.

Works great for producing milk. And I only burnt myself ONCE ;)

Congrats but you are just at the beginning of your exploration and you will find even better constellations for your liking....sometime...for sure!

And several quartz you know-whats-its. :brow:
Literally that many heading to England now. I need all the consolation I can get after being deprived of my glorious Showerhead. I guess things aren't SO bad in hindsight now though. :)

LOL! Right. Temperature, weed moisture level, draw speed, carb cap and glass are all variables I will be exploring.

Tonight I might just check out my first dabbing experience with some Cannabiotix Banana Treez Nug Run Sugar :)

...kind of grind, used (water)tool, with or w/o attachments like dropdowns, adapters etc., with or w/o water, kind, size and material of the bowl, mesh size and material of screens and I forgot a few for sure.

Variables (Flower Only):
Glass Piece, drop down, ash catcher, Heat Setting, Draw Speed/Strength, Material, Material Moisture Content Amount of Material, Grind, Capped or Uncapped, bowl stem diameter and Bowl/VRod/ShowerHead fit (unheated air introduced)

Respect! -YaMon

As someone who has moderately enjoyed weed since the sixties...Im kind of shocked at my dabbing experience.

I got some high grade lab tested (78 % THC) Cannabiotix Banana Treez Nug Run Sugar from my favorite dispensary . Shared it with some buddies that got RIPPED off it. We all vaped off the VROD (LOVE IT!) . The difference is.. they got high off the 6 rips we did , BUT I DIDNT.

We then shifted to some Earth Kush flower from Cannabiotix, 3 hits of that on the Flowerpot and I was zonked. This same thing happened to me a year ago with some really good rosin (so others say). It also had no effect on me.

The lesson? Something must be weird with my metabolism. So, I will save money in the future by avoiding concentrates and vaping only weed. Actually a good solution in my book ;) YMMV

To follow up further on my own message here ... there are a couple things I've noticed:
1. The NV SiC dish I believe records a lower temp than actual (and then what the D-Nail dish does) with the IR gun probably due to it's lighter colour and probably higher reflectivity
2. I didn't have my VROD head parts tight enough together. This time when assembling, I got an extra last little <1/4 turn between the two head parts, and it closed up the seam quite a bit, and the dish temp is now way hotter, and seems to be working right (it might be slightly cooler than my old VROD setup, but not much)

So ... make sure you get the 2 parts of your head together nice and tight; coil contact is crucial! I also made sure the end of my coil was bent in far enough to get contact ... the thermocouple for the coil is in the tip so it's important the tip makes good contact ... otherwise your reading won't be nearly as good.

I've been using a new toy of mine that I built as well ... I'll post a video and thread about it shortly ... I call it eNail Magic :)

It's a box that sits between your eNail controller and coil, with a rotary dial and push button, and it allows you to run "scripts" at the push of a button so you can do down-temps etc with fairly complex patterns/steps with temp delays, time delays, etc. I was getting really tired of fiddling with the coil switch on the back of my eNail controller to do down-temps with the D-Nail base and a modified down-temp type procedure with the VROD. Now I click a button, and it turns on/off the coil for me at all the appropriate times :) With the v-rod, I like to turn off the coil when I start the hit ... then turn it back on once the temp has dropped 50F, then turn on briefly to get it to go up to 25F below start temp, then off/delay for 10 sec, then turn back on. (I'm still fiddling around with the exact profile/steps for the VROD as I only just finished building this thing last night ... and spent time with my D-Nail Halo base getting the down-temp scripts fine tuned for that yesterday :) ... just fiddling with my VROD profile/steps this morning :) )

Flower gave you full spectrum effects.

That oil didn't.

That's the appeal of this vape for me. The flower effects can get HEAVY :D

thanks @Hogni, I used the 2 holes to secure the ribbon, I think the handle is ok, I might e-mail them and ask if the not fitting is any kind of a safety issue.

Tried it with some CBD flower in the glass bowl, works a treat, looking forward to having a go with the real thing later:D
The bulge where the coil stem turns into the cable usually has a bulge where they are connected and this is sometimes just a tiny big to big to perfectly fit into the handles. No problem if you can get the screws in and then wrap it with the beeswax hemp twine.

Almost every coil make is a bit different in this regard and I took a dremel too to my handles (have three of them) and opened up an area for that stem/cable connection just because I'm anal. But it works fine and is perfectly safe if the two halves are not fitted perfectly due to coil connector diameter. Just wrap the twine around it and you should be fine.

And based on the lab analysis, the sugar should have given me a full spectrum effect. The lab indicated it had 1.8 mg. B-Caryophyllene, 5.7 mg. Limonene, .5 mg. Linalool, .6 mg. Myrcene and 1.6 mg. Pinene. Although there were no traces of CBD or CBN. It was rated at 78.3 THC and 78.5 THCA.
