I believe there was a similar post about this.
Does anyone suffer from long term depression?

If so what helps you? Ive read a lot that yoga and exercise helps.

I was peescribed different meds when i was younger but stop due to side effects and mh helps more, but nd2ver really cures it obviously...

Exercise, exercise, exercise. Body and mind, both. I am at the gym for a couple hours almost every day. I read A LOT and I NEVER watch TV. Maybe download and watch a movie now and then but NEVER anything on broadcast. And, I NEVER read the news. That shit is enough to depress a normal person. LOL

I am depressed about 80 or 90% of the time. Very seldom am I 'UP" so I can't really tell what special combination of things makes me better but smoking cannabis doesn't do shit for me. My wife says I'm nicer to her when I do edibles but my tolerance is so high, my dosage is 1500mg compared to the average dose of 10 to 15mg.

I live in a shithole state with clouds, gray skies and rain most of the time. Nice weather is a definite help for me.

There's really only ONE thing I can depend on. I KNOW that no matter how depressed I am, it WILL go away. I don't know when and I don't know for how long but I KNOW I will have an up moment some time in the future. Sometimes it's days, weeks or months, but I ALWAYS have a good day now and then.

So, I got that going for me.

That's about it. LOL

Well, not quite. As a computer hacker, I can often involve myself in a very complex reversal of something like a math encryption or logging data from an unknown chip and the task requires so much of my brain that there simply isn't any resource left to experience the depression. It's still there. My brain is simply too busy to take time to ack it's existence.

See there, it could be worse....... you could be me. LMAO

One thing I know FOR SURE.... the drugs the doctor gives you DON'T help. Of all the people that I have known who take those drugs... are ALL still depressed and only about 1% are actually better for it. It DOES work for some people. But, IME it is very very very few. And, generally, those are the very violent or 'physical' cases.

Keep a chin up, kid. It's life. It sux. The good news is.... it doesn't last forever. LOL

The last line made me LOL. I've been dealing with this for over two decades now so im used to it but it does suck indeed. I cant justify paying someone to listen to my problems becaus

Shrinks never did much for me either. It seems I offended most of them by knowing more about everything we discussed than they did. LMAO It's not that I'm smart or anything but I have not watched TV for over 30 years (maybe 40 by now) and so I read A LOT. And, I have a little better than average retention so it makes it look like I am always trying to top everything you say by adding a bunch of facts to your statement. Apparently, that is incredibly annoying to most people. Especially, someone who is supposed to be in the alpha roll and ends up playing a more submissive roll in the relationship. People have such big egos. Especially the shrinks I have seen. LOL

I did have one guy who was a fucking genius. I literal well of knowledge. However, we spent months trying to compete to show who knew more about everything we discussed and after a while, he said I was dragging him into my world instead of vice-versa and he wouldn't see me any more. LOL Smart muther fuker, for sure. Somehow, I remember him as being albino or something odd like that.

As for the chemistry of depression, certain foods and stuff like fish oil can make some difference. Never seemed to work for me but I know others who swear by fish oil and Omega 3. Google "depression anxiety and homeopathic" and you'll hit plenty of good reading. I generally check sources and footnotes before even reading any search results. Just FYI about misinformation on the internet.

Hackerman has the right idea @clukx, get physical, exercise, hit the weights, run, swim, cycle, get that blood flowing, and like the weather moods change constantly, what helps me when I get down is writing, yes write down shit, anything, jokes, a letter to a loved one, a story for a script idk get creative. even listening to us here can help my good man. another suggestion, check your diet, processed foods, trans fats, and refined sugars definitely mangle your system and moods, try eating more whole foods, high in the good fats, Monounsaturated fat or Polyunsaturated, eat more fish (if you like it) Avocados, coconut oil, olive oil, etc. this is a good starting point if your not sure.

Whatup @clukx. I've recenetly been watching Hamilton's Pharmacopeia. On Season 2 Episode 5 they discuss how ketamine instantly relieves depression. Not suggesting anything illegal, just thought this would be an interesting watch.

edit: I'm pretty sure they first start talking about depression @ 12:55.

Stay away from K and any street drugs ,most probably you will end up getting something cut or a dangerous analog and will end up worse than you have been on the start. If you wanna get rid of depression longterm ,getting in touch with the holy mycelium is far better choice.
It brings most relief with less side effects and health hazards.
That guy hamilton is a true psychedelic jack-ass,he inserts all kinds of things into his body for the fun of the crowd.. ( i mean like the Steve-O show).. He is funny but i wont leech life lessons from him.
The K hype is kind of reminding me the Iboga hype in the past... Actually it was mainly hyped because it was an FDA approved treatment for addiction. In Brazil they use Ayawith success even on prisoners... but it still involves taking high doses MAOI and getting involved into a hell of puke-a-rama.. I dont find puking around comforting for the soul sry.. they are softer and easier ways. You dont need to make potions combining numerous plants or ingest unhealthy chemicals,it is provided from mother nature in form ready to be used.

Yoga didn't help me but swimming, martial arts and Chi Gung did.
Also:
-Mind control in the morning. Examine thoughts immediately upon waking. Postpone any negative thoughts for later (=never). How you start your day will pretty much define how your day will unfold.

-No cannabis before dark. It really really sucks as an anti-depressant and if you have a serious problem you may want to consider taking the cannabis out of your system for a while.

-5HTP supplements

-No staying up late. No staring at a screen late at night.

ketamine instantly relieves depression

In my book, mental illness is best understood as a thoughts, feelings and behavior that don't fit with your real circumstances.

It's easy to see in bipolar people. They go up and down and up and down, in a cycle with regularity. Pretty much regardless of what's going on around them.

You get hit pretty hard just living life. Some more than others, quite a number tragically. Feeling down, anxious, even desperate can be the right reaction to real situations.

While some might call that depression, it's probably best addressed without psychotropic medications.

Doing a few shots of tequila, or taking a few tokes, to get through a rough day or two from time to time, nothing wrong with that. Or on a healthier note, hitting the gym or a nature trail. Not gonna solve your problems, but it might lighten the load a bit, get you out and social, or in some cases make sleep a little easier.

It can help you cope, or leave you better refreshed to tackle a problem ... the next day. Clear the decks so you can get to work on making things better.

Improving your circumstances is absolutely the best remedy for what a lot of people call "depression".

But some folks have emotions, behavior, reactions they shouldn't under their circumstances. Sometimes for most of their lives, sometimes persisting in the aftermath of severe trauma. That's genuine mental illness in my book, with serious biochemical origins. Improved circumstances don't really address the problem. Often, it's best addressed with pharmacology.

Healthier living? Cannabis? I'm not convinced.

Waking up thoughts are a definite giant influence. I woke up this morning with all negative and just wishing I hadn't waken up. Fucking sux. Smoked 2 joints with some coffee. Ate a protein bar and headed to the gym. Music and exercise.

Still wish I were dead..... but my back feels better and my muscles are bigger. Working on getting my 6 pack back (well, 4 pack. those last 2 are almost impossible after 60). LOL

Right on about cycling but some people are rapid cyclers and some are not. I'm rapid so whatever is happening to me will change pretty fucking soon. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse but.... change is imminent. I would think slow cycles would suck more than rapid. I guess it all sucks.

My band has a gig tonight and that always fucks up my anxiety. Plus, my bass player is Yoko Ono and always a problem. Fucking rock stars. LOL

I’m in a similar boat. Have struggled with depression and anxiety for YEARS. Lately I’ve been wondering if I have the newest category “bipolar depression”, but who knows.

I’ve tried bunches of things. Some were terrible. (Celexa made me smile when I wasn’t happy, that scared the crap out of me. Prozac didn’t seem to do much for depression, but maybe cut my anxiety a little. Getting on it and off of it were terrible though.)

5-htp seems to take the edge off, and you can get it on amazon.

Fish oil doesn’t help my depression, but is super good for you anyway, so worth a shot.

Am surprised to hear people saying cannabis doesn’t help. One of the main reasons I vape is for mood elevation. Just do your homework, and find strains that are super uplifting, and preferably super low anxiety. Obviously be aware sativas can keep you up at night, so good to have a happy indica also.

I agree with going to bed at a reasonable hour. Sitting up alone at night will increase depression, and I’m saying this as a night owl.

I’m not even quite 40 yet and I can’t get past a 4 pack. No idea how to beat it. Always had a 6 pack in high school and college.

What kind of music does your band play? I played guitar and sang in a band for a while. I miss the adrenaline but not the anxiety if that makes sense.

The 6 pack is all about diet. ZERO fat. High protein. And, the worse thing of all...... no beer. LOL

Alcohol is nature's perfect food. Your body will digest alcohol calories before any other source. So, you go to the restaurant and order a steak salad, thinking you are getting a good meal ..... you have a couple beers with it. Oops.

Now, your body has to process those 300 to 400 beer calories BEFORE it even starts to process the salad and steak.

Well, unless you are on a treadmill while you eat, it's going to be forever before your body uses those 400 calories.

Meanwhile, it takes all the carbs and protein from that awesome steak salad and stores it the ONLY way your body knows how to store...... in fat. So, you body processes the beer calories while it converts the salad to fat and stores it.

The body is a wonderful thing. LMAO

My main band plays mostly 'classic rock'. My second band is a little more versatile. I have a 20 year old, a 40 year old and 2 60+ year olds. So, I bring the British invasion which I love and the 40 year old brings the hair bands to the mix. And, the 20 year old hates them both and brings all the new shit. I never even heard these songs. LOL Or, the artists... Johnny Eat Wood? What the fuck kind of name is that. LOL Love Potion Number 9 is more to my liking. LOL

I don't play much any more either. I do a gig every Wednesday night at the same club where I've played for 10 years (this October). And, my main band (which has 28 members Well, 27 since Max died) plays mostly annual gigs. Gigs that we have been playing for years and it's hard to back out of. Just did a 3 day party last week. We were one of about 10 bands all weekend. Pretty fun. Maybe 10 gigs a year, not counting the Wednesday night thing. Damn, I remember playing 4,5 even 6 nights a week.

I'm with you on the anxiety thing. It's always a nightmare building up to it. I get over it about the first few minutes into the first set. My arthritis is getting to be too much to play a full 4 or 5 hour gig. I sit in more often than anything now. It's great. I just show up anywhere a band is playing and they always ask me to sit in for a set. Then, I can go back to the party and chase girls around the bar and act real cool because I'm a 'special guest' of the band. LMAO

eff-me man, 1500mg! You should get on the bus with Willie :)
My dose may hit 500mg, 1500 I'd hopefully be sleepin' REAL good :)

so far I think research is showing that the gut biome holds significant influence on mood/depression/anxiety.
'sgonna make things interesting! :)

They put me on Effexor for the nerve pain, nice dry mouth and dry eye :(
Not to mention the fucking weight gain.
went off of it last year to humor the onc-doc I had then, he wanted me to try Cymbalta...
it SUCKED getting off the Effexor, and the Cymbalta sucked.
So I went back on the Effexor for any pain relief I could get.

I was was first on SSRI's eons ago during my divorce... Paxil, AWFUL, the withdrawals even with VERY slow titration down were ridiculous... Zoloft was kind of safety net so you didn't get TOO low.
But I see so many people that do not respond to these drugs, there's not a lot of alternatives.

Between the Effexor and the significant amounts of CBD, I keep a pretty even keel, all things considered.

Stay away from K and any street drugs ,most probably you will end up getting something cut or a dangerous analog and will end up worse than you have been on the start. If you wanna get rid of depression longterm ,getting in touch with the holy mycelium is far better choice.

I actually got some ketamine prescribed to me from my doc and a compounding pharmacy he used, I think it helped a bit with sleep, but I don't think I was at the dosing levels for depression.

Another option that's out there for long term clinical depression, etc. is trans-cranial magnetic therapy where they accomplish much of the good of ECT, but with a significantly safer and non traumatic procedure.

Healthier living? Cannabis? I'm not convinced.

Eating/ Juicing lots of Raw cannabis on the Daily would be the best therapeutic approach to fixing any depression symptoms with cannabis, like juicing an entire Bush a day type stuff... all of those metabolites metabolizing is the medicine and the increase in oxygen to cells enliven them ETC... basically we are completely doing it wrong now with prohibition of cannabis... Depression has been a large part of my life as long as I can remember.

Don't get me wrong, I on'y started to come to that conclusion in the last couple of years, as I'd previously just thought that was how everyone felt.

I've been self-medicating my entire life. Used cannabis for it for a handful of years in my early 20's, then got busted, and spent 10 years on probation. Couldn't use cannabis for most of the time (had a couple dirty UA's during the first couple of years, then decided to not risk it for the latter 8 years), and used alcohol for the same thing during that time. As you might imagine, that fucked with those 8-years of my life (which ended a couple of years ago), and they were not exactly good for me. Now that I can use cannabis again, I'm regulating my alcohol intake to a reasonable amount, but still working on getting it down to where it should be again.

I'm just glad to have cannabis back in my life again.
