Ed's WoodScents Log Vape - Ed's TnT

Just got my first woodscents and I think I’m in love. So gorgeous.

A couple questions:

1. What’s a good temp for the essential oil dish? Maximum? Or 6-7ish?
2. Has anyone found a good carry case? I can definitely leave it out when I’m home, but would like to grab something to protect it when I transport it.

About to use it for the first time. Kinda geeking out a little...

I am so happy that you got yourself a WoodScents! Which one did you get? Can you post a pic so the rest of us can fall in love with it along with you?
Thanks! As much as I love the dynaverse, and as beautiful and functional as Ed’s pieces are, it seemed like a no-brainer.

I got the thuya burl. I’ll try to figure out how to post a picture.

So a (probably stupid) question of usage. Just tried with a tiny amount, maybe 1/3-1/2 of a vapcap, isn’t the glass wand at heat levels 6-9. The ABV doesn’t look...V’d lol. The taste was great, but it’s still bright green, and I couldn’t blow out any vapor. I tried maybe 10 draws. When I use the vapcaps by themselves with a torch or IH the ABV gets progressively darker and darker.

Do I not have enough in there so air is going around the side, or am I drawing too fast, or is there a trick?

I definitely feel a little medicated, so I was getting something...

Bah humbug, bad things happening tonight for me. Just got home from a long day of work. Walked through the door, started preheating my log and went to take the dog for a walk. Went to go preheat the oven to get ready for dinner and fed the dog his dinner. Was finally getting ready to enjoy some me time with my log. It was all preheated and all that was left for me to do was fill my water pipe up. I grab it and let the sink start filling with hot water. As soon as I start giving it a rinse the fucking power goes off!!! Guess it's a sticky brick kind of night tonight

I usually run my VC dry at around 11.5-11.8 volts, not sure what that transfers to exactly on Ed's VV dial he provides. This provides me a nice dark brown ABV every time. Some things I think really help for a good extraction is to use a nice fine grind, and to pack the Ti tip about half full, with a slight tamp down. Doing this I can almost always do a full clear of the bowl in one hit.

Interesting. I didn’t grind at all, just stuck a little piece of bud in there. Still seems weird it didn’t brown at all, and I didn’t get any vapor, right?

Try putting the screen in the Ti tips to the middle setting and fill loosely. From there I would say crank the puppy to 8-10. Then let the unit sit for 20-30 seconds over the load in the water pipe for fat ripss.

Preheating, like putting the Ti or glass on the WS before packing it, has been a helpful technique for extracting the most from my unit.

It sounds like you my friend need to get a VVPS to push that bad boy a few notches over 12v for when you're using the water pipe. Get those fat rips without the need for a preheat!

@szai you are completely correct! Could have been much worse, I just love to complain!

@-dab8- You are definitely going to want to grind. Sticking an unground nug in there will definitely not provide a good hit at all.

I'm sure you get asked this all the time but which unit do you use? I've really been interested in that upgrade to see what it would do to ma boi...I just don't wanna get f'd by exchange/shipping/customs if I can help it.

@Slagzord I actually was talking about my precious VVPS a few pages back. Go to page 59 of this thread and you'll find an amazon link to the current VVPS I use :D Now there is only one downside to using this VVPS, and that downside is that the cable needed to connect it to a log is no longer in existence :o. The good news though is it's pretty easy to make your own cable, send me a PM and I can give you all the details on how to do it.

I haven’t tried the wooden pieces with the titanium tip yet. This was just the glass straw with a little screen in it. Tried turning it up to 10, and pre-heating, and it seemed to really make a difference.

Grinding definitely seemed to help. I turned it up to 10 also, but the difference in vapor makes me feel like it had less to with being one digit higher, and more to do with the increased surface area due to the grind. I have only ever used a vapcap before this, and with those you can bud stuff OR grind. In thinking about, this being convection, more surface area is probably needed.

What on earth is a VVPS???

Thanks bro will do!

Because it is always helpful, here is his post about the variable voltage power supply. Basically a knob that controls the voltage flowing to your unit.

If you're looking for any good recommendations this is the one I've been using for almost two years now with no issues. You can definitely get more accurate ones for more $$ but this one's a good balance between performance and budget.

Oh almost forgot to mention! That unit doesn't come with the correct cable to connect to a log, so you would also need to purchase a lab style VVPS cord to make it work.

Variable Voltage Power Supply. All it does it let you directly adjust the amount of voltage that is being applied to your log. The dimmer that your unit came with acts in the same way as a VVPS, where you can adjust the voltage between 1-12v depending where on the 1-10 dial the dimmer is located, but the great advantage of a VVPS is that it allows you to raise the voltage PAST 12 volts, which can allow for some really big roasty toasty hits out of a water pipe.

I very recently got a burl log too. I don't know much about these things so realize that when you read anything I have to say on the subject.

My first few stems with my new log were a disappointment. I thought, "man I get much better results from a torch". I watched videos and saw comments that people were hovering around 7 on the dial and getting fat tasty clouds. I kept working with it. It seemed like I could get some nice rips at 9 but that didn't seem right compared to everyone else. Even then I'd get one nice stem and then if I try to do another right after it was back to wispy or no vapor. I had the barely extracted green to light brown ABV. I was feeling a head change but it definitely wasn't what I was expecting or viewing on line.

The next day I started the thing in the morning and didn't try until it had been on for an hour and half. Hmm was still needing to be around 9 and getting great hits followed by so-so to non existent. I started to wonder if there was a short because I could feel the heat in the draw for one stem and the next not.

Three days in and I was trying to decide whether to write Ed and see if there was some tuning I should do. I bought a infrared thermometer because I just knew it was heating up and cooling down. I wanted to be able to give ED any data he might need. I thought I had discovered if use the aromatherapy cup for 1/2 hour or so and then do a stem and I could swear it was working great after that.

SO full disclosure, I am not mechanically inclined at all. Pops didn't spend much time with me growing up and I haven't bothered to learn these things on my own. My home repair attempts throughout the years are stories told over and over again at the Thanksgiving table to the delight of all around, except me of course. When it comes to this stuff I'm about as useful as tits on a bull. So it is no surprise I started to reason that the aromatherapy cup was doing something.

Then for reasons I do not know on the fourth day it started working like a beast and has ever since. I tend to warm mine up for about an hour. Have it set at about 7.5. It works great. The vapor is the tastiest of all my devices. I can get a huge hit if I want. It can almost get too hot at that setting. It is superior to using a torch on the vapcaps. I don't know why it took 4 days to go from working so-so to being the greatest thing since sliced bread. I live in a very different climate than ED maybe has a small part to do with it? I can't help wondering if a few days from now your just kicks in like a mother fucker too.

The really good thing you are doing, that I just couldn't seem to figure out to do, is asking for help on the first day.

Everybody talks about getting good vapor at 6.5 to 7.5.

I run mine at 9.5 with a dry stem and get wonderful hits, but I don't like using it at anything below 9.
Maybe I like to draw slightly faster than others or something, but I get perfectly evenly roasted ABV from every stem.

I never really liked using the glass stem though. I pretty much stick with the wooden stems with Dynavap tips.

I have this on order, looks like the correct plugs and all;

For now, I just leave it on 10 and only use the Ti tips mainly through water, I will use the glass when I can up the voltage.

You know how it is with stoners though. Allways breaking their glass. I though either something like that or something really catastrophic happened to your ws. I'm working on getting my own ins.

My great friend @antispleen has convinced me that I need a log vape ins!

I'm sorry if I need a little more hand holding than most. I have your suggested device in my basket. Can you link me to the cable you mentioned?

So the cable itself doesn't exist anymore, underdog used to make them but they're not available on their site anymore so you'll have to make your own cable! You're going to need a 2.1mm barrel connector cable and some banana plugs. All you're going to do is attach the banana plugs to the barrel connector cable and bada Bing bada boom you have a vvps lab style cable. Here's some links for the two things you'll need to make your own vvps cable:

Not only was your post helpful, it was a great read. Thank you! I’ll play around with it a bit. It already seems to get warmer than the first few times I used it. Weird, because they are already put through a 24 hour burn off. Maybe the break in period is longer than that? I for sure can’t say, I share your mechanical ability, or lack thereof.

Does anyone have any ideas for great portable storage for the woodscents and all the accessories?

woodscents and all the accessories?

A Pelican case, just like we use for our glass and other equipment.

http://www.pelican.com/us/en/products/cases

Not sure what size, you'd have to look into that. Maybe something like a 1200 or 1400 for just the vape, cord, and a couple stems. Something larger if you want to have glass in there as well.
