Gear Slug .33 Rosin Forge

I have been considering grinding up all my spent pucks and doing a run of 'ABS' (already been squeezed) to see if it is possible to extract any possible remaining rosin whatsoever.

Has anybody tried this? Getting ready to do a little run of ABS in the name of science.

:science:
I’ve been super curious about trying this. Let us know if you do!

yea, when you find it, consistency is key. I had been using my Deuce forever, then the other day I went to use my .33 and compressed way to fast at the end and had a total blowout! Pissed me off, thats what I get for being in a hurry.
Toping off my torch, being patient, using exact amounts, and of course keeping notes and always makes for a successful run.

yes, mental notes that is. No note pad needed.

Hello rosin pressers! As expected I had issues pressing last night. First press - not enough heat. Second press - a bit better. 3rd - I even got a small drip. My concern is I'm not getting a solid chip. I have to pretty much pick apart the leftovers to remove it. Only some pieces are of chip consistency. More heat? Im assuming so - but my rosin is very dark already. Yet my material looks relatively green/still good. Also - when pressing and the slug moves slightly away from the paper and you're almost done pressing - do you go quickly at that point or do you still move slow? Thanks folks.

I found that you can press the pucks again for a second try if you bust them up.

I would guess not enough heat or very poor starting material but I am no expert.

Super slow at that point. That’s when the magic happens.

This is an interesting one. Perhaps you are under loading it? I have had some pucks crumble but very un usual. How long are you heating for? what Slug.33 are you using and tell us about you whole process vise, torch ect.

Hey doc! So I've weighed out every pressing with 1g as specified. I am heating for 1:30 to 1:45 and I have tried 2:00 and also 1:15 but not more than once. I have the one g slug.

The whole process is as follows - break up herb into chunks that fit inside the hole, after two or three pieces I will use the plunger to press/compact the load, as I've seen in your vids. I'll repeat till I've loaded my one gram. I'll then place in the vise and compress a couple of turns to kind of seat everything. I also make sure the press is straight up and down. I keep the heat in the exact position you show in the youtube videos. My torch looks similar to the smaller Whip It branded you use in the tips/tricks 12 min video. I will heat while compressing until 1:30 or 1:45 and then I will stop. At this point in time I have around 1/4" or slightly less of post showing and I will compress slowly. I finish pressing at 2:20 or 2:30 or so if I was to keep the stopwatch going.

In another note - one of my flower types, which I was hoping to use a lot of, keeps consistently leaking out of the top of the unit. None of the other flower types have this issue. The flower is very dense and sticky. Let me know if you have any tips/recommendations in that scenario. Do you think I should grind it up?

To remedy the issue you are having with rosin coming out the rear of the Slug33 you can compress the flower further until tight before heating, then heat for 1 minute or so and finish.
I would turn up your flame intensity. One minute to 1:30 MAX. That being said you should still be able to get proper results with what you are doing. I think you may have a tough cultivar? Some just do not do well. Have you watched Bubblemans "Hash Church 2.0 the past present and future of rosin" this is a must watch in my opinion for anyone who is entering the Rosin game.
From what Ive read here it seems like you are doing things right, and you should be getting good results. Moisture is KEY, check that. Make sure you flower is moist and spongy not dry and crumbly.
let us know, PEACE!

quiet in here.... @fatkatz, "give us a verse, drop some knowledge": how you like your new tool?

Looking to drop my order this week, depending on turnaround time - what are my chances of a Fat Mac arriving next week if ordered this week?

I only ask because holiday travel dance....

Hey yall! I've been lurking on this thread for a while and just placed an order for my master kit and had to make an account. I'm so stoked!!! I cant wait to start using my slugs.

Also Natty props on the quick response time and the great customer service. I will be sure to post my results as soon as it gets in. I ordered it this morning so I expect I should see it before the end of this week?

Welcome! I think you’ll be thrilled with your slug, and @Nattybushdoctor goes above and beyond helping you get your best results.

Welcome, Gonzo!
Aren’t these things SLICK???
Thank you for the kind welcome! I look forward to learning alot and sharing my experiences with yall!

I will let you know when I get my grimey little paws on it haha I've done so much research amd watched so many vids I feel like I know how heavy it is in my hand. I really love the simplicity. I am someone who likes things that can be used off the grid and with minimal tools and this is just what I wanted.

Feel you to the bone, there: the elegance of the solution, the simplicity...every other “rosin press” seems like a monstrosity. I went immediately to the Mac, THIS is what will let me add fresh-pressed whole rosin to my regular diet. Can not WAIT

Yeah for a long time I was worried I'd never had real access to Rosin cause a press is expensive and I am in a really red state so it's not like people are gonna be blowing 600 to 1000 for a whole press. Plus they are quite monstrous. This is something I can buy a medium to small sized Pelican case for and have with me whenever. Discreet. Simple. Elegant. I had argued for the simplicity of this many times. It is a clear cut example of Occams Razor. People really like to say it has consistency issues because the lack of temp control. Which in all honestly it's not going to be as consistent as a temp controlled unit. But after a bit of practice you will have it controlled enough to get great results. Like Natty says YOU are the temp control and that's too much work for some. Me personally I like it. I'm the kind of guy that likes analog stuff over digital alot. I drive manual. I like to craft things. Now most just want results. Most people like to min max just for the sake of telling someone they are wrong. The internet has turned people into snobs. If something isn't the most accurate or expensive or consistent down to a factor of like .0000000000000000001 then they thinks it's shit just because they can point that out.

While analog is cool i still wait till someone gives a try how thing will go when are spot on tempwise ,like with PID control.
@710Coils has 30mm and also can provide custom sized coils. A coil will act both as a heater and a handle for the slug. If anyone is interested in trying electrified slug he can shoot them a message :).
