Pretty shitty news. I saw him/Sabbath on the Heaven/Hell tour.

tdavie,
I was a fan from the first time I heard Rainbow (already worshipped Blackmore's axework) and although his time with Sabbath was productive and memorable, it was the Dio band in 1983 with the Holy Diver album that made him a "go-to" act for me. They had a frickin' giant dragon on stage FFS!

He left a good legacy, no regrets.
Rock on Ronnie!

These people really need to get high, then have crap smashed out of them, but then given a joint. Not a vape, they dont deserve one, well maybe an old styled conduction globe vape or a lightbulb.

I wonder if they live under power lines or something, you know, those really really big ones. I just hope these people did not get this way by a fault in their genes. On a bad Joke, perhaps it was too much lead. I do apologize!

A church group plans to protest at Ronnie Dio's memorial service, calling him a Satan worshipper.

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- A public memorial service for heavy metal rocker Ronnie James Dio is planned for Sunday, with members of the Westboro Baptist Church saying they will picket the ceremony.

The church in Topeka, Kansas, is known for its intolerance of gays and its picketing of soldiers' funerals.

A picketing schedule on the church's website said protesters will be at the Dio memorial at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles, accusing the 67-year-old rocker of worshipping Satan.

Dio died on May 16 after a battle with stomach cancer.

Charges of devil-worshipping have often been leveled against heavy metal music. Dio, in particular, was a favorite target.

He popularized the "devil's horn" gesture, where the index and the little fingers are upright and the thumb is clasped against the two middle fingers.

He has said he was taught by the sign by his superstitious Italian grandmother as a way to ward off the "evil eye."

But many fundamentalist Christians have taken issue with the gesture, alleging that it is a tribute to the devil.

"Ronnie hates prejudice and violence. We need to turn the other cheek on these people that only know how to hate someone they didn't know," said Dio's wife, Wendy, about the planned protest.

Wendy Dio said the memorial will host a donation center for her husband's "Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund," named after one his songs.

The services start at 2 p.m. (11 a.m. ET).

Dio most recently was touring with Heaven and Hell, a version of Black Sabbath renamed for legal reasons. All shows were canceled last March because of his illness.

His last public appearance was in April at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards, when he accepted a vocalist of the year award for his work on last year's Heaven and Hell album. Dio appeared frail, but he spoke while accepting his award.

Born Ronald James Padavona in 1942, Dio's professional music career began as a high school student in the late 1950s.

His 1960s rock group The Electric Elves evolved into Elf by the early 1970s, when the group played heavy blues rock.

Dio's rock became darker with his band Rainbow, which he left in 1979 to join Black Sabbath.

Black Sabbath released three albums with Dio, including "Heaven and Hell" in 1980, "Mob Rules" in 1981 and "Live Evil" in 1982.

Dio left that band in 1982, but he had a brief reunion with the group a decade later.

He formed the group Dio in 1982 and later Heaven and Hell.

Beez that so called preacher chaps my ass!! He claims to be a preacher but preaches hate and intolerance. I try to keep politics & religion outta here BUT... This guy - is a monster!!

Locally a funeral was scheduled for a young soldier who was killed in Iraq. The group announced they were going to bring their flock here to protest for his funeral. I really think they just like media attention :( but what horrible things they do in the name of religion.

A local motorcycle club with many veterans decided to intervene and literally lined their motorcycles up between the screaming mob and the funeral and roared their Harleys to drown out the disrespectful ASSHOLES!

End of rant!

Loved Dio! May he rest in peace :peace:

Makes me sick that they can do this. I would have it on private property and make it a mute issue. I can say, little Beezleb back in the day would have been eager to go at these people. Today I shake my head, feel a little sick knowing theres people allowed to do this and fire up the vape and post this. Damn ive pussed out hehe.

Ive seen that about the military funerals. I would love to see a bunch of musicians do something similar to silence them, a bunch of guitars just blarring or something. Maybe play some Slayer for them. I would love to see them try that shit in say Sweden or Denmark or wherever those true satanic metal thrash or whatever they are called bands are from. Those guys walk the walk. For once I would like them mess with people who push back. I believe it would be protest they would never forget, but who knows.

Oh well, to better topics!

If you believe in irrational things, it doesn't take much to become fanatical. The Westboro Church makes my blood boil...
