agreed about GN - so interesting how many of us share similar musical tastes.

A classic, Matty. :)

Fuck, now I gotta add these (damn there's at least 300 more from those years lol )

Ya know, I don't think I ever really appreciated that Layla cover as much as I do right now. Nice......

Damnit, I got beat to that Specials album (I have that one on vinyl!) and my other fave CSNY. Guess I have to counter now.

This one is a family favourite, one of my first music memories...

In retrospect I had a lot of weird musical memories as a kid, did anyone else have the same thoughts?

I have had thoughts on music ever since I could form coherent thought. I remember being very young, perhaps 2, and thinking that the snare sound that was popular in a lot of the recordings at the time sounded like someone smacking a wet rug against the floor of a bathtub. Don't know where I got that idea.

All of you have such great taste in music! If I could muster up the will to take the time to post up a bunch of images, I would, but I just don't feel like it...lol...The new Flying Lotus album "Cosmogramma" has a badass cover, google it. Been listening to this vaked outta my mind almost daily. If you are in to jazz, or experimental music, or electronic beats, check this album out. He is Alice Coltrane's nephew, and his family influence definitely shows.
edited to add- this album is also great in how dense and almost disorienting it was the first couple listens, and now when I listen to it, everything sounds so natural and connected and it flows with a definite logic that you just get caught up in. It goes from sounding complex and alienating to being almost simple and welcoming after repeated listens. This is what makes it such a rewarding listen.
I saw Flylo perform on saturday with a live band, it was nothing short of pure magic. Ravi Coltrane's performance was amazing.

Damn....so jealous. I would love to catch him live. Especially if he had a live band backing him.

SkeletonLips,
Great band jimbo. I love Maynard's work. Such an amazing voice, musical vision, and sense of humor. I've seen Tool live, twice. Once sober, and once high as hell, and both times my mind was blown.

Always wanted to see Tool live, one of my favorite bands to get high to! Just recently got into A Perfect Circle, too many bands so little time....

They are all amazing imo.

If anyone is trying Skinny Puppy out for the first time, then please keep an open mind. There's a brilliance and beauty in there.

The Lion and the Cobra
is a masterpiece. Sinad made it when she was nineteen or so, and she wrote one of my favorite songs on the album ("Troy") when she was sixteen! The emotions just pour out or her and into the listener, and I literally cry sometimes when I listen to this album (it's a good cry).

Faves from this album~ Troy, Jerusalem, Drink Before the War, Just Like U Said It Would B

-------

Survival is not one of Bob Marley's most famous albums, but it's definitely (imo) the strongest. Some of the lyrics might be about problems in Africa, but my mind substitutes in struggles we all might have, and specifically in the United States.

Faves form this album~ Zimbabwe, Africa Unite, Ambush in the Night

"Divide and rule could only tear us apart
In every man chest (mmm), there beats a heart

Soon we'll find out who is
The real revolutionary......"

-------

Too Dark Park is... on the surface a sort of scary, theatrical trip. Well, it really is, but there's a mastery of the layering of sounds and music that is truly amazing. There are more accessible Skinny Puppy albums (like Bites or Cleanse Fold and Manipulate), but I chose this one because it was my first intro to Skinny Puppy. Really, my fave Skinny Puppy album rotates between the ones already mentioned and Remission and Rabies. Try to listen to this one alone in the dark- just for kicks! Also, listen to it in order (not random/shuffle) please.

Faves~ Nature's Revenge, Shore Lined Poison

Note: Although some might automatically think they're hearing "kill your mother, kill your father" or other such nonsense in the lyrics, it's untrue with Skinny Puppy. Most of their songs are about things like love, animal cruelty, drugs, and environmental issues.

Many of the other albums from these artists are pretty awesome as well.

Yes, these are three very different albums, but they're all brilliant and true works of art. There are similarities. They're all created by artists who weren't afraid to push the envelope, and their emotions are laid bare for all to hear. You might find some life-changing messages in there, too (if you listen hard enough).

Try 'em out please.

finch that has to be one of the most fucked up album covers I've ever seen, but I dig it!

Hey lwien you might want to throw a 56k disclaimer in the title of the thread... getting a bit dense with photoz.

Sorry to be cliche here (vaped, go figure), but I noticed a lot of fans of The Band in this thread so they'll appreciate this:

If anybody in here is like me and has an acute sense of pitch, listen to the original recording several times and try to pick out the harmonies, and guess who you think is singing each... then this video will help you identify who is who.

I dunno, I'm just the type of person who always likes to visualize the band playing the music and such, I guess I'm a music geek haha. Fun game, passes the time...

It's been a great night folks!

Got really vaped a bit ago, was digging through my records for the first time in a long time and found one I bought that I forgot about:

Amazing album, and I called myself a Wings fan before even hearing it. Man, Paul McCartney is great.

Then, as I sat at the end of my bed, I realized that I could easily improve my 'ideal' listening spot to the end of my bed from the floor by simply moving a very small table on the wall from the right to the left... not only did this move allow me to shuffle everything over for the best spot on my bed, but now I can see my tv better.

I'm sorry, it's just been a cool night!
