Well a mixture of sadness that my hopper isn't working as well as I thought it was left me with a few choices. I could deal with it as it was, send it in and wonder if I will ever see it again. Or....I could just buy one of those new spare bodies and see if it works. The heater is in the body yes? So theoretically if my Hopper is running cold, the fix is somewhere in the body right?

Anyways, it said 5-7 days on shipping of the body, but I figure it is worth a shot. If the problem is something in the end cap I suppose I will have to send the entire thing in. But I am hoping that the temperature issues with things running too cold is something wrong with the heater in the body itself and not with the dial or connection on the top end.

Did I just waste my money or was this a sound idea?

I gotta say, your reasoning is sound. Should work.

When the Hopper works, it’s a beast. I actually completely forgot that I was supposed to get it yesterday. But when I realized, I’ve been putting it through it’s paces. So far, it’s awesome!

Here’s to hoping we get a long lifetime out of this. I’m hoping it survives my mini trip today, and then my San Francisco trip next week.

Well here’s to hoping! Honestly, I was loving the Hopper as it was, but I could tell that it was supposed to do more. I’m glad yours is solid right now! That’s great news! Have fun in SF. I lived in the Bay Area for a few years for work, great place to visit!

It seems there is a decent demand for the bodies. I didn’t understand the appeal initially but I am a fan of having a backup so if people want to buy bodies they might as well sell them.

@newVaper420: I’m glad you received your Grasshopper in time for your trips, and it sounds like it’s running well, here’s to hoping it continues to do so.

I found myself cleaning it more often than the original mouthpiece, but then it has less resistance imo

Use the cosmic power of gravity ;) - as long as it's upright, what could happen? Haven't I read about folks using it with cotton + concentrates?
I agree completely about the PFE. When used with flowers it gets gunked up very quickly, within a few sessions. The normal front end takes weeks to get gunked up in my experience. It’s a major difference, so I rarely use the PFE with flowers.

I have used my hoppers with concentrates and cotton a lot. There have been times I have used it as my primary consumption method for weeks at a time. If anything I think it is better for the health of the hopper as there is no plant matter to get trapped in the area near the temp sensor.

With concentrates and cotton/degummed hemp fiber the PFE really shines. The increased airflow is more helpful than with flowers, and you don’t have any of the cleaning issues with the concentrates. Just make sure you don’t use huge amounts, and make sure it’s completely covered in fiber and you will be fine. You can use at least .05 grams, and up to .07-.10 grams depending on the consistency of the concentrate.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. People want a relieable hopper more then a spare body. Also who is to say the spare hopper peices are any more reliable? just more peices in RMA. Why doesn't HL just have you send the body and mail one out on arrival... Hopefully it's not just a cash grab

I have ordered a body to be shipped with my case (whenever that is) and I asked about warranty on the body and the reply was -

Hi Michael,

We have added it to your order. We expect the cases to ship near the October time-frame.

The body carries the same lifetime warranty and is linked to your account. You can use your existing serial number to file a request for it.

Well, after lurking on this thread for many many many months, I decided to create an account to let everyone know I received one of my hoopers back (sent in and rec’d mid November) and it will not turn on. No matter what I do I cannot get it to start up. It charges, I think, since the red lights blink when connected to the charger. Contacted HL and of course it needs to be sent back. I honestly don’t understand why it was sent back when it doesn’t work. I’m also not sure if I’m going to send it back or just take the loss. I’m just tired of all this.

Just letting everyone know I decided to send the grasshopper back one more time. I received it back already which was a surprise in itself. It turns on now... Doesnt stay on though, even when drawing on it. Maybe 8-10 seconds and doesn’t get warm or produce much vapor. I’m beyond over it. I just don’t understand the quality control over there. Funny thing is I have a second one stuck in RMA land that they received in December which I can’t get a response on it’s estimated return date. So this guy will just go in a drawer and maybe someday when they get their crap together I’ll open a new RMA and sent it back in. I have a Fury 2 which for me is far superior than this junk grasshopper. I’m off my soapbox now. Lol

Mine would do that when I'd accidentally have it set to temp one. I'd panic and realize I'd done a temp dial twist back and forth to make sure nothing was getting gunked up in there. It wasn't staying on or heating up just like you're describing. I'd check the dial and realize it was on one and I'd turn it up and then it would "work" for me. I put "work" in quotes because mine were running too cool and they're back in RMA right now.

Ok guys. Yesterday I took it on a mini trip to my brothers house, about a 3 hour drive. In tow was about a gram of white tahoe cookies and 4 GHB2’s. When I came home almost all the batteries were dead (3.85v in nitecore) and the gram was vaped. It performed wonderfully. My brother is a combuster :-(. At least I got him to use the hopper with his bong (although it tasted like shit because he didn’t clean his bong). Next time I’m gonna clean the bong for him.

Anyway, point being. My hopper is working wonderfully. I don’t want to jinx it but I’m very pleased with its performance. Next stop, San Francisco.

I've killed a couple batteries in the hopper now, so I think it's time to put down my thoughts.
Before talking about the hopper itself, I'll note that the new charger works so far. That's a good sign, though my first generation one did work for a while before giving up.
Now some observations about the hopper.
The back end still gets warm, but not as fast as previously. It seems to be somewhat dependent on what temp I have it set to. It gets to the point of hurting to touch the serial number area within a couple draws at max, but stays warm to slightly hot if I draw on minimum.
I think battery life has improved a slight bit, I can generally get 3 bowls on a charge now, but there are downsides to that which I'll get to.
The clicking noise seems to be fairly similar to my old one, maybe a slightly different quality but still fast clicks while powered on unless the battery is dead or there's some other heating issue.
If I let it power off without clicking it off, I have to do a double click to turn it back on. I don't remember how it behaved previously, but I thought this wasn't supposed to be an issue any more? Or was the way of 1 click all the time the old way? I don't remember.
It seems to heat up in about 4 to 6 seconds depending on where the temp dial is set and how cold it is in the room.
Unfortunately, I don't feel the vapor is quite as powerful as I remember. I'm not sure if that's because my tolerance is way too high at the moment or what, but out of the 3 or 4 bowls I smoked from it, I only felt that 1 or 2 were really good. It still seems to get hot at the chamber end as quickly as I remember, but since I'm an exclusive high temp user even a drop of 15 degrees F will effect things.
I also feel it takes me more pulls to extract what I can get from a bowl. I used to be able to clear the hopper in 3 draws. Now I feel it takes 4 or 5. But since I have no one with working eyes around at the moment to look at the ABV, it's honestly hard to tell.
I'll take the hopper with me next time I'm going somewhere, which will be a dinosaur exhibit and camping next weekend and see how it feels when I'm away from the other vapes. For now I'm not too worried though as it's most likely just my ridiculous tolerance.

It sounds to me like your hopper is underperforming. I feel if there is any question at all about it’s performance then it’s probably not at 100%. When it’s fully functioning there is generally no doubt about it’s performance. The fact it’s taking more hits to finish a chamber is a key sign in my opinion.

My Ti is a beast, I love the light weight and it’s functioning perfectly. It doesn’t have the improved airflow of newer models though. My SS on the other hand has the improved airflow but is running a little cool. The ABV is just within my threshold of acceptability, it’s a nice medium to slightly dark brown at temp 5. My Ti gets darker brown ABV in fewer hits with the same material. A side benefit of having a backup hopper is it helps a lot with troubleshooting.

If the repairs weren’t backed up I would have sent in my SS already. However, the performance is just barely acceptable for now and I’d rather not send it out for months at a time if I don’t have to.

Dang. Guess that means it'll have to go back again. I'll wait till the madness ends though. Probably use it and the good old Crafty till October or so, since it still does have some effect if I wait long enough between bowls.
I'd like someone to take on the Grasshopper, but as others point out no one has managed it thus far. If someone manages to though, I'll likely be all over it once some beta testers have reported. All the other vapes I have that are even close are either still too big, fiddly to load/unload or require external heat.

Every is talking about their new hopper upgrades and I been waiting since 18 of June for this literal snail mail to arrive.

It has taken over a month now to ship and just last week I got the bill for import charges

I got an email back from my postal service explaining they had unusual amounts of imports from the US of A

Not that satisfied with the answer because in March we ordered farm equipment that they shipped from USA to Sweden and then to some random person in Brazil.... Thanks local post! Your an idiot :D

They recently got bought by Danish company and it's been chaos since then

So it's three months Labs received my SS for the RMA number 4 . The other three where fixed in a reasonable time , but now if it takes several months it's not a warranty anymore. I want to see them with same issues on a car or a washmachine or something else, it's clear that you got to buy or rent a new one. With a reasonable price I could agree to pay for repairing , the lifetime warranty is becoming a pure theory with all these issues. The result is that 1) found a new type of vaporizer much better and sure to work 2) never advise friends to buy GH. In my opinion they should clear abandone lifetime warranty and begin to work properly fixing at reasonable cost in a short time, otherwise they'll loss theyr customer one by one.

Everyone’s shooting the messenger lol. I gave the post a like for sharing the info. I had actually already read the email.

When I saw the email I optimistically thought it might have some good news about increasing production and reliability. It’s disappointing to see that the pace of production has not increased much if at all. They told us again that they will increase this pace so we will have to see what next month’s email says.

As for reliability, the fact they are starting to offer spare bodies makes me think they have not improved enough and it almost makes it look like Hopper Labs doesn’t have faith in their own product.

I find the concept strange and confusing. If production is backed up, where are the extra bodies coming from? If they are selling newly assembled bodies then there’s going to be fewer RMAs going out every week. And if I have a spare body do I still need to send the entire Grasshopper in to be serviced, to “make sure it has all the latest components”, or will they start letting us send parts in again like they used to? Just a couple of months ago in one of the updates they made a point to say that you have to send the entire device in for an RMA except for special circumstances.

If you still have to send in the whole hopper then the extra body is not going to do you much good. Yeah, it’ll get you hopping again in the short term but you will eventually be hopperless while your RMA processes.

Agree at all , and don't forget that in a electronic device you ( you customer , not an engeneer ) don't know exactely what's the problem , you just know that it doesn't work . And maybe the problem is yes the backend , for example , but because something went wrong in other parts , so for me the idea of buying spare parts and selling for RMA only pieces is absurde. I repeat : when it takes several months you cannot call it warranty. When I sell you a thing with lifetime warranty , it's like saying I sell you a device that does not and will not have any issue . But the fact are : 1) it's an electronic device which works with dedicated batteries , all of this kind can have an issue . The more components , the more is possible your unit faults , for hundreds of reasons. 2) some of this part came from China stocking , that's what I read here long time ago. How can you guarantee for parts that comes from other continents ? Maybe now things changed but I personally would guarantee only if interely product . I personaly think it would be more honest to fix units in a reasonable time and price than let people wait "several months" . It's a lovely unit , when works it's a Giant but anyone here would thake the risk, for example , to go to holydays in another country only with a GH ?

You'd be crazy to buy a Grasshopper vaporizer knowing what we know without a lifetime warranty. And even if they didn't have a lifetime warranty they'd have to have one or two year minimum and they'd still be dealing with most of what they're dealing with right now anyway.

After my last post I got to thinking about the lack of auto shutoff on my SS Grasshopper. I thought it was because of the new backend but then I realized it might not have been working with the previous backend, and might be an issue with the body instead.

I put my SS backend on my Ti body and sure enough, it turned off after exactly 16 seconds. And it only took one click to turn back on unlike the two clicks required by my Ti backend. The reverse was true as well, the auto shutoff did not engage with the Ti backend on the SS body.

In fact I discovered this forum for trying to fix myself some issues , when I bought it I didn't know... but anyway , the first 3 issues where fixed in a short time , and I live in another continent , it's not bad . One was my fault , in Croatia a big wave arrived to the GH causing a short. I did pay and had a very functional GH until a very determinate part of it , a metal ring in the backend , broked . I honestly believe that they where so proud to build this vapo ( which is in fact so beautiful powerful and stealthy ) to gas gas gas with lifetime warranty , I imagine in front of a beer . Two years in Europe is the classical warranty , it's reasonable . The fact that things are blocked and people waits months is very worrying because it means no stock . What if they decide to proceed with other projects and abandone this ? And anyway you cannnot have only a GH , maybe with two you're maybe sure that maybe one works .

I wasted a lot of money here with this shit. The compressed air. A grinder. Etc.

I will never bring the hopper on a trip again. It’s dead to me.

I should have brought my mighty. I’m an idiot.

Luckily I bought a cart yesterday. And I’ll just use carts and edibles till I get home. And I’ll roll up this shit and smoke it. :-(
