Quartz Banger Thread

@nickmo yes that is correct. A 25mm coil will fit the gavel v2 =)

Thinking about pulling the trigger with the 20% off they have going right now. But do I really need one? I tried out a "25mm Opaque White Bottom XXL 25mm Quartz Banger [quartzbangers.com]". I grabbed some Chinese inserts, but I don't think they were sized very well. I go with the banger for a few days but I always find my way back to the Liger...

The main attraction is the opaque bottom. I didnt have much luck with inserts on the gavel. But the bottom straight was a very nice change from the solid quartz bottoms. The gavel likes to be a little hotter than a regular banger, but brings out more of the flavor.

I have 2 and if one breaks it gets replaced quickly =)

Ya I might pull the trigger while there is a sale, I'll decide after work.

What is the banger recommendation for inserts then?

I prefer mad rob and eternal. Eternal just takes forever to get and so I have been messing with mad rob bangers due to this. They are pretty sweet, but have a longer neck that can stand of a piece a bit high.
If you go eternal, make sure to get the fat bottom version.
The dablab has some mad rob bangers with 20% off

@muunch Yes they are. I am waiting to hear back about samples and placing an order if its on spot =)

Things I am looking into:

1: Flowerpot coil (17mm height and clockwise wrap)
2: Axial coil for 25mm bangers (The coil that covers the bottom of the banger also)
3: Augushaus liger coil (the 30mm monster)

Hoping to have more info later this week and will keep everyone posted

I have actually never tried a coil on my banger...seems like I should!

@710Coils I have a 25mm Toro opaque and 30mm Crystal Star. What do I need?

@MAbud you would just need a 25mm coil for the Toro and a 30mm coil for the Crystal Star. I have the 25mm in stock and am working on getting some 30mm soon

The 25mm is in my opinion the perfect sized banger for adding a coil to. I have tried everything between 20mm to 30mm and ended up going back to the 25mm banger.
If you order a coil from my site I will make sure to throw in one of my clip kits to hold the coil arm in place. Takes a lot of the issue out by supporting the coil arm to the neck of the banger.

Here is a link to some pics showing the clip being added to a banger:

You might consider getting a few budget bangers to learn with as the one major downfall to coils on quartz is it can break if too snug or too angled

Budget bangers
I would recommend the XXL 25mm clear and opaque bottom bangers. They are not 180.00 bangers. But pretty damn nice for 30.00. I have seen some master the tech fast and others take time. But all prevail in the end

I am down to answer any questions you might have and you can hit me up directly if you prefer =)

I recommend going with a larger coil. A 25mm toro is exactly 25mm wide. Maybe 25.06mm wide. Most coils or at least the dc coils I have are 25.05 wide.

I popped the bottom off my toro the first time I let it cool with the 30mm DC coil.

Used that same toro on the Augusthaus coil that is 30.45mm wide on the inside and never had issues.

Just letting you know from my experience.

I'm am now getting 24mm buckets for 25mm coils. I test fitted my 18mm sapphire in a mayoral 24mm and wrapped it with a dc 25mm coil and fit great. I did this at the smoke shop so no heat but fit great and had a bit of wiggle.

My main point of failure has been from the coil and nail being too tight of a fit.

Someone said that it should feel like pushing a plunger into a syringe when you're inserting your banger into the coil and that sounds right. Very minimal resistance and it should push in gently. Firm and snug but not tight.

I always fit my coils when everything is room temp. I don't turn everything on until the clip is installed and I think I'm good.

Hearing the coil creak while it's on is usually not a good sign. If it's creaking I usually assume it's gonna break while cooling down, and I'll either very gradually drop the heat and cross my fingers... or I just leave the enail on :D

I've only used the fat bottom bangers but just got some opaque ones that are on the way. I'll report back later this week on how those fare.

I personally found better taste from lowtemps on the quartz bangers than on my small SiC dish from the wraparound flowerpot, but I am also gonna test how the new, bigger, SiC dish fares this week as well.

For reference I have only used bangers from dhgate, quartzbangers.com and fatdabco.com so far.

cheers and have fun:cheers:

You can get lucky and have your coil and banger be a perfect fit. But typically you will always need to tighten or loosen it a little to get the proper fit to the banger you are using. I just do light twists of the coil with it facing downward. (coil arm is at the top and the end is on the bottom)going clockwise for loosening and counter clockwise for tightening.
when I am close, I check the fit to the end of the banger from both end as one of the rings of the coil could be out of place and cause a bind point. If I feel anything resist more than expected. I stop and check again until the fit is a expected. As @muunch mentioned the ideal resistance should be smooth like an empty syringe being pushed into the tube. Once I have the right fit. I then use one of my coil clips to hold the coil arm in place. Once the coil heats up, it will expand and this is where the coil arm being supported is critical. It hold all the weight in place and wont let the coil get angled due to it being a bit looser when heated up. I am down to help anyone wanting to learn this tech and am available for direct conversations as needed =)

I very rarely break bangers now and have a Toro grail thats been going strong for over 8 months

My coils fit just as good if not better than any other coil out there (Says this while standing on a tall soap box). I came to selling coils because I was tired of the hype around coils and the price point being out of proportion to most peoples wallet. That and I am utterly smitten with quartz bangers and my dabs. They fit almost any piece without tipping it over and have no heat saturation beyond the top of the banger neck. Also the lack of reclaim is amazing. i am lucky if I have a drizzle of reclaim after a weeks worth of dabs. Its a match made in heaven when dialed in

Here are a few shots of a banger and coil pairing I did for a buddy:

Does anyone own an e.ross 24mm coil and banger? I'm kinda curious to know the size of the banger and coil. The e.ross coils are made by DC and I was playing with one of these set ups the other day at DC and the bucket was loose as hell in the coil. Its held on by the pin but definitely had some tolerance making me think the buckets it a bit smaller that 24mm bit would like to know for sure.

I'm kinda curious on that set up. As the Augusthaus set up is similar, a lot of give in the bucket but held on with a pin. But not curious enough to sell out $300+ to find out.

My goal is to find out what tolerance they are giving their setups as they and Galaxy are the only ones selling enail quartz combo that won't break the quartz.

@Shooby i got to mess with the axial coils and it took a bit to properly fit it to a banger. It was only once it fit snug that the temps held as expected. Before it would glide up and downantwhwre from 20 to 40 degrees. This was the same when I tried it paired with a peli nail or the hex nails.
In the end I was not as impressed by them as it only dropped the temp 10 to 20 d frees and I was expecting this since it has the extra coil portion on the bottom.
The eross coil being loose makes me wonder how well the temps read and hold on any enail.
Did you get to try it out? If so how did It work? =)

I use the Augusthaus knock off and works great. My temps for the 30mm is the same temp on my 25mm with regular barrel coils. No need to adjust and it gets me around 450F on my opaque. I haven't had time to pull test temps with Sapp as I'm traveling for work this week. So far using the Augusthaus coil, I'm a fan and just bought a MiniNail 25mm hybrid as well for the 24mm buckets.

I worried about loose coils but at the end, I only care about the temp on my insert so I adjust the pids accordingly and wait for my Ktype to stop counting and land on a. Temp. I will do this about 3-4 times to make sure it returns to the same temp.

I have read tons of positive reviews on the e.ross set up. Not one bad and haven't heard of any breaking.

***Edit***

As I'm sitting in my Hilton room about to take a rip off my travel leisure Incycler, I look at my Augusthaus bucket and coil and remember the quartz pin on the bottom broke. Which is the reason I dont want to get the e.ross style quartz. But I do like the coils.

I'm just curious what dimensions they are using with this set up and copy it with my own quartz and coils possibly using @710Coils clips. I have to say I am kinda excited to try them.

Just got home and had a bunch of packages. Not as many as i hope but still a few to make my return home a bit exciting.

Got my 30mm Hoyes Quartz Flat top and my PukinBeagle Black/Gold 36mm with PB 29mm insert and PB 30mm Quartz bubble cap. And i got @710Coils clips and i do like them.

Here is what it looks like on the Pukinbeagle. BTW, i really like this PB, well made! The insert is really nice too.

And here is on the Hoyes Quartz. I liked how this one worked out. ACtually holds well this way.

Thank you @710Coils Do you have color options for the rubber?

I do recommend everyone getting a set of these if you are using quartz and coils. Easy to use. Really fast to apply ans provides solid hold with a lil flex. Perfect and great job!

I have received both hoyes quartz XL and XXL and CANNOT recommend these for insert and coil use.

The 24mm XL I received with a Hoyes 18mm quartz insert that fits so snug on the bottom of the bucket that once i torch is and its hot, it gets stuck inside. If i put the sapphire inside, it will expand and explode the quartz. The XL sorta tapers in towards the bottom of the bucket as the top has about 20mm. I do not have this issue with the 30mm XXL as this does not taper in.

What i dislike about the hoyes quartz for coils is that the design isnt really made for coils, if you have a thick coil, it may not fit as the neck is so short to the joint. Also, the bucket is really small and short with the joint hole half way down. Another thing i disliked is that the quartz isnt that clear to see through. Sorta distorted compared to others. Another minor dislike is the clear joint, they do not sand blast their joint and thats just weird to me.

What i do like about the hoyes quartz is that its cheap and i really do like the design for my leisures. The straightness looks nice on the incyclers compared to bent neck. But thats about it. I will send them an email about the 24mm XL being tapered in.

My goal is to buy at least one of nearly all popular quartz flat tops to use with inserts and post my review.

@Shooby have you tried the Halen flat top round bottom?

it looks so easy to swab, curious of the round design, looks like the oil doesn't run to the sides as much from a few videos I've seen. I'm just not sure how well they will work on a barrel coil.

The Crpytic Culture JTR also looks pretty sweet, I think that one has rounded corners too for easy cleaning?

I see the HBr a lot but I do not see a need for those as i do not dab off of the quartz bucket directly. I only use inserts. Even if i am dabbing on quartz, i will use a quartz insert inside a quartz bucket. And i do not dab off quartz enough to buy any round bottom quartz inserts to use inside the round bottoms HBr.

Trust me, if there was a round bottom sapphire insert out there, i would already have all the round bottom buckets.

So i have avoided Crystalstar, Cryptic Culture, Evan shore and halen bucket round.

As for using the round with a coil, i do not see any issues as once you put the bubble cap on, it will move the oil on the walls.

***EDIT****

I heard back from Hoyes regarding the XL bucket being tapered in and they confirmed that some do. They were making the bottom thicker before they started doing inserts. So some do have the thicker bottoms and some do not, they are replacing it for me.
