Alright, I know you guys are wondering a lot about the Flame Filter. Still haven't tried again with the Bic, but i was seriously having trouble with making the bic work right the first time.

Roasted about 10 or 12 good size bowls with my torch. With some practice, this thing is actually really nice. Quick on the draw, and a great low maintenance way to get to the med's quickly. I like how i can plug and go around my house with it, i bought a 1960's tri-level.

Similar to my Supreme, it is great to hit it a whole bunch, and look and realize you herb isn't even brown. Damn, where are these lung hacking clouds coming from? Better then the S is the ability to look at your herb the whole time, through clear glass.

The learning curve it steep for a beginner, but you could likely coach up a friend if you used the torch for them, for instantaneous and precise gratification.

More to come.

IAmKrazy2,
Glad to hear you're still kicking CD! I'm interested in custom pieces for the EQ but after looking at these...I want one of these too! They look great, and impressive vapor from the video. Wish I could beta test, but more than willing to be one of the first to purchase of these bad boys! :D

How you like it Fear?

I have been using mine daily, often two or three times a day. It is my new quick to get big hit daily. I have had some success with the Bic like Fear now, but i always take the first one or even two hits with a torch, this help get the glass filter nice and hot, and then the bic comes in with its flame consistancy, and gives some nice rips. Glad you got your beta.

@IamKrazy2 - how does the flame filter prevent any butane from being sucked in? I have something similar that another glass blower gave me but I am sucking in butane and not really liking it, definitely looking for something different.

Ok, so I've been using mine for the past couple days and I have to say that I really enjoy it. I first tried it with the standard bic and didn't have much luck. Like others said the butane lighter is best to get the bowl nice and hot first then you can move on to the bic. It is capable of producing monster hits, it left a buddy of mine coughing for a good few minutes and he's a heavy smoker. You do have to watch out for over toasting with the butane but that's no biggie once you get the learning curve down, and I think like the others said start with the torch and move to a bic and you won't have to worry about that much. Overall I am VERY pleased with it. I will post more once I am able to try it with other types of pieces. I just love the workmanship on this piece, it's friggin solid. :peace:

@masejl12 - Same question as I had for IamKrazy2, do you get any butane aftertaste or is there any butane that gets into the air/vapor path?

Hadn't checked this thread in a bit SM. Sorry.

For me, i use the same blazer knockoff butane i know you have at your house. I keep the flame small and only let a tiny bit if to actually enter the glass hole. I really keep it at a low temp., and it keeps any butane taste issues out of the equation almost entirely. I do notice the taste more with the bic, but maybe cause i only let the very tip of the torch to be sucked in, and i hold the flame a little above the bowl. I hope this makes some kind of sense.

I'm going to rip a few bowls right now out of a small tube, and see if i notice anything. To be honest, i have used it almost exclusively with a tree perc tube with a Luke Wilson inline bubbler attached, so i want to experiment with something else with less diffusion and filtration. i'll get back to you, whenever i can type again.

Could you use bee line or that hemp wick stuff? I kinda like the taste of that

You got me paranoid SM. :(

With a small glass tube, i felt like i was faintly tasting butane. It may very well have been the power of suggestion though, and if there completely faint. With my larger tube, with a tree perc, eliminates any and all butane taste. But i'll admit you got me thinking about it.

@iamkrazy2 - sorry, didn't mean to make you paranoid. Sovereignty had hooked me up with a similar device that one of his buddies made. As far as I could tell, conceptually it looked very similar to the CD Flame Filter.

Unfortunately, that thing required you to suck down a bunch of butane to get to the right temperature so I gave up on it. When I saw this thread and the feedback so far, I was hoping that the puzzle has been solved. If it is just minor, I think I could deal with that.

CD - I got some money for you! How do I get one of these? I need a portable vape!

When i use the torch just the very tip kisses the top of CD's Flame Filter. I am not talking the dark blue tip either, i use the less hot lighter blue end flame. I don't know why, but for whatever reason butane taste is really a non issue. Taste is better then the Supreme, but not that of the VHW. Reason? Likely the butane SM mentioned. Although it doesn't seem to have a butane taste, it doesn't give the lip smackers i get from my VHW.

I was worried about this issue for a while when I was first considering my choice of a vaporstar for my delve into vaporizing, as knowing what I was breathing in every day is pretty important to me. The research I did online as to how the vaporstar, and similarly the CD filter, work revealed that you have a pretty big potential to breathe in butane, but only under circumstances of improper use. I've used vaporizers such as the Da Buddha that have reasonably pure air paths, and enjoyed similar levels of taste to butane powered units under the correct conditions. I always make sure to only harvest the heat of the lighter; the light orange part of a candle flame and the translucent blue part of a jet flame. Under these circumstances some pretty educated guesses I've made about the thermal instability of butane would suggest that nothing near an "active" amount of the chemical will be inhaled if a proper distance is maintained. Try and fine tune the technique you're using if you're experiencing any butane problems, with such "personality" traits being the biggest pro as well as the biggest con of such style vaporizers.

I always try and discourage the idea that butane vaporizers are something to be avoided; hope you don't give up on the CD filter just yet! Butane is definitely a chemical to give some caution to as is does have toxic potential, but it's also worth it to remember that it's on the low side of dangerous aerosols. Given it's intense flammability I've been pretty much convinced that, given the direct proximity to a flame, any air that travels into the air intake hole is virtually butane free air. Again though, it's all about technique, practice practice :ko:

(Off to fall asleep after a lot of "practice"...)

Thanks for the update guys. I will wait until CD finished the beta testing and order one so I can enjoy some portable vapes.

i like you description better then mine, something like, "light blue end flame".

It is a nice portable option, and you could boil it out before travel.

IAmKrazy2,
Release date?

Importantly, price?

Importantly, available in 14.4 mm and not the larger size?

This and the HDvape bowl attachment are way up my vapo to-buy list - like all glass vaporstars, which is obviously awesome. I much prefer your small, low-profile, more elegant designs to the HD vapes'.

Update like a month and a half later:

MAKE THE DAMN FILTER FOR SALE YOU GLORIOUS BASTARD!

Ahem. We all want to buy it.
