Discontinued Glass Symphony XLR

@Oogendoogan easy bro. The fine mesh is not to replace the standard screen, it is too flimsy. It rests on top of the screen in the funnel bowl.
I know exactly what you mean though. They are damn hard to work with afresh. Jojo sent my funnel bowl with one already installed. He shaped it perfectly to hold like a firm little nest. He had it crimped over and pinched together in 1 or 2 lines/rivets if you know what I mean.

I got 2 extras which I still have. I tried using one in a smaller bowl for the Elev8r, similar size/shape to funnel bowl.

Well, it was a complete flop! Literally lol! I was hoping for a stiff! Instead I got a screwed up pair of jeans that badly needs ironing and holds it's shape like a wet papee boat!!
Sound familiar?
So I dont know how Jojo does it. Maybe some schooling will be offered some day. I still have ir, and the other one (which I daren't touch now). My hopes in asking Jojo for the extras was to use them for my upcoming Herbo Ti, as the bowl and sceen design lets tons of particles through.

So I'll have another go but I ain't super confident.

I put the fine screen under the normal screen in the funnel bowl.

If you start with a clean funnel bowl and a new set of screens (remember the funnel bowl screens are a bit smaller than the stadium bowl) put the normal screen in there and get it set to a good position. I then actually blow through the symphony a bit to heat up the screen, maybe 3 or 4 times. I then let it cool and pop it out.

If you then push the new fine screen up against the normal screen (below it) you'll notice that it naturally does bunch up a bit to make those folds and if you push it in the funnel bowl below in a sandwich like that with both screens, fine screen below, with a little finagle you can get it in there.

This is the 2nd cleanest thing I've ever hit, after the glass mesh+glass screen, but it creates the cleanest reclaim in a dropdown you've ever seen and boy it just piles up in there. More than the sublimator for sure. Hard to tell but I think also more than the FP, but I haven't used the Vrod enough to say.

HTH!

Ok so I will try these settings. I wanna make sure I understand you. Should I change my 155 back to 1.00? I don’t plan to run any higher than what is 950 with my current settings. My second question is with these new settings should I go lower in temp. I’ve been sitting steady at 950 and my controller displays the temp at around 940. This is the perfect temp for me but with these new settings I’m guessing I’ll be going lower?

And I couldn’t figure out that fine mesh man! You sent two pieces, the first i messed up pretty bad trying to get it in place like a screen. Is that what they’re meant for? To replace the screen? I have one more so I can give it a go. But I don’t mind a standard screen. I’ll order some 1 inch screens for my funnel bowl. My stadium bowl screen is in good shape and I hardly use that beast.

Thanks for the advice. I’m stuck at work right now but I’m gonna have a Sunday evening with the GS later. I’m exited to see if these settings make it hit even harder (if that’s possible)

I had one more question about the Glass Symphony. I got my unit second hand and when I poured the beads in I didn’t know what I was doing. I spilled them and lost some. Thanks for the extra heads @jojo monkey lol. But now there is one small gap in the beads near the bottom of the heater. I’ve taken them all out and shaken it, tapped, done everything I can while feeling safe but there’s one or two beads that are stuck, causing this issue. I haven’t been able to get my heater out because of these stuck beads that I’m afraid will break the heater if I try to remove it. Any advice here is appreciated. I guess I’m wondering if that tiny gap in the beads makes much of a difference..? The GS melts my face and it’s one tiny gap. I’m just wondering if this is affecting my performance at all.

The auber change will make your previous 950F % 1.03 is 922F. So you should just run a little under where you are at now.

Wood BBQ skewers are good for getting at a stuck bead - they won't scratch the glass. Sometimes a little pressure on the heater can unstick beads - there is a little play with the joint. Sometimes you have to remove the beads in a sequence since some can hold the heater from moving. I have yet to be beaten by a stuck bead.

When you get it unstuck, you should follow the "roll a single bead" test to confirm that the heater is in a sweet spot. Gaps are usually caused by the heater not lining up right.

Here are the steps from the current instructions:

GS Assembly:

  1. Insert the heater into the top of the 3way adapter. There might be lines on the outside of the heater and 3way adapter to line up the glass. Do not push down on the heater until you confirm the spacing.

  2. Put one sphere inside the vaporizer and roll it around the heater making sure that it cannot get stuck. If the sphere does get stuck, slightly lift and rotate the heater to release it. Rotate the heater only a few degrees at a time. After each change of the heater’s position, roll a single sphere around the entire heater to confirm the position.

  3. Gently push the heater down and attach the stainless clamp.

  4. Using a cup, funnel, or just cut the corner of the bag and dump the spheres into the open end of the 3way adapter. Fill a little at a time and gently shake to settle. Do NOT rotate the heater once spheres are surrounding it. Rotating the heater with spheres can shatter the 3way adapter with the pressure. If you see gaps between the beads around the heater go back to step 2.

  5. Insert the handle and attach the last clamp. Do not force closed if beads are in the way. Tilt the vape so that the excess beads enter the handle and the glass joint will close with ease.

Ha! You crack me up. I'm not doing anything fancy. I've only done it 1,000 times.

I'm just bending the sides a little before I put it in. The last step is to do a hard press against the glass to form it up. The mesh sort-of listens. The wire it uses is extremely fine.

Really the Bubbleman should get the praise for selling bags that let you sort cannabis by the resin head size. It is enlightening to sample a plant by the maturity of the resin. Anyways, at some point you see where the good stuff begins and ends. I tried to apply this to hole size for the fine mesh.

I tried to capture it for ya.
You don't consider that a bad thing?
It's pretty much vapor that condensed right after the mesh - it has a runny consistency. There are no sticky unconverted resin heads all over the place to gum things up.

Here are a few months of buildup on the funnel bowl (right) vs a few weeks on the glass mesh bowl (left).

@Andreaerdna told me this would work a long time ago, I am so happy it did. My glass will always be clean.

This is a 6x time lapse of the ultrasonic cleaner over 3 minutes (normally it only takes 1 but it was super dirty glass and I used mostly 71% iso when my 91% ran out):

A quick shake and a water rinse and it was spotless again.

After using it for awhile I agree the glass mesh bowl edges out the others in flavor. It takes a bit more time to use, but I definitely like the flavor better side by side with the other bowls. Not a huge difference, but it's noticeable. I especially love that it doesn't get dirty clogged screens. It might get dirty, but it's always going to work.

After getting the new heater and having another 100+ degrees to work with I actually got concentrates to vape pretty well using the herbalAire concentrate crucible. It's layered with screens and glass beads. At 950 I get visible vapor and definitely feel the effects, I just don't get a lot of taste out of it. Nothing bad, it was just kind of bland and nowhere near something like the d-nail sic halo. The high actually really snuck up on me, I had one of those moments where I realized I'd just been sitting there staring at something for a really long time.

I tried a glass fritted disc both by itself and on top of the crucible to get it closer to the heater, but I didn't like the results. The disc was a little dirty so I might try cleaning it and giving it another go. The crucible by itself worked really well though, I was surprised.

This 100% worked with the double cup shatter and some cbd isolate I tried.

Still trying stuff, I'm a lot more encouraged now that I know it works.

I don't know if I mentioned it, but the ceramic 'flavordiscs' that 7th Floor vapes sells with their Elev8r also work really well for concentrates, and it does stand about 1/2 inch so it's stands up in there a little taller. Works pretty well with the funnel bowl anyway.

I can't recommend spoiling yourself and getting an ultrasonic cleaner enough. Just cleans so unbelievably fast and thoroughly. I fill it with water and put the glass in ziploc bags with iso, although @jojo monkey has me wanting to try distilled water or liquinox.

Water rinse, 2 minutes in the dirty/washing bag, water rinse, 2 minutes in the clean/rinse bag, done (I do one last rinse in water). Could probably cut the time in half and just do 1 minute each. It makes it so easy to keep them constantly clean.

It even works with my D020-D with it sticking halfway out. I fill it with iso, plug the holes, after 1 minutes it's clean. I do 2 minutes just for the hell of it. The vibrations go into the liquid in the glass and end up cleaning the parts outside the cleaner too. Just love this thing.

Im looking around to see which ultrasonic cleaner to purchase.

Any need to buy one that is expensive rather than cheap?

How much was this one in the photo above? Can it only clean one piece at each time? Also how long does it take to clean usually? (Obviously dirtier glass will take longer, but just curious for an estimate)

@jojo monkey is this the same one you suggested to me?

You can clean as much as you want in there, you just need to worry about it breaking. If you have a bunch of loose vibrating glass pieces bumping up against each other in there I'd be worried. I worry about that anyways, maybe someone can chime in on whether that's safe or not. If you keep them separate I think it should be ok.

I think with price it's mostly about size, my cheap one worked almost as well as my less cheap one.

I bought this one for $90, though it looks like it's out of stock now: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075FTFD3R

I got that one because I had measured my bubbler and knew it would fit. Though the fill level and basket sticking out made way less fit in than I thought, luckily it still works anyways. It also has a water heater which is nice, I put it up to 30-35 so the iso get's nice and warm in the bag.

For the bowls I run it for 2 minutes, though I could probably just do 1. I do a water rinse, 2 minutes in the "dirty bag", water rinse, 2 minutes in the "clean" bag, water rinse, done.

Before I got that one I had this smaller $25 one that was for cleaning jewelry and coins and stuff: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DKDAVW

It worked really well, I cleaned the bowls with it and I would of kept using it but I wanted something bigger for my bubbler. It didn't have the water heater, but running it usually made the water warm anyways. I could never go back though, I love getting my filthy D020-D bubbler spotless in 2 minutes. I'm hoping to switch to using distilled water too, I just can't find it in stores around me for some reason. I want to find a local source if possible.

Ah that's a good idea. I *think* I still have some of those from when I got their vapor pipe, I'm going to look for them. Nice one, thanks.

I'm so jealous! Wish I could afford a 240v version. Oh well, one day....
How could you tell it’s not the 120V version?

Btw... I was surprised it costs less than a new s&b Mighty vape.

Sorry for the comparison between a child’s play & a powerful beast, but that played a role on my decision.
and I’m so happy with the Symphony that my mighty barely gets to be turned on. Even when I’m taking it out for a ride, it’s just stays in the pocket... A BIG Symphony puff before go fixes the whole bicycle ride

With all this talk about sonic cleaners and such I want to just quickly offer up an alternative that just worked for me to clean the glass screen bowl!

I was able to push the bowl up into my faucet so that it got a pretty good seal, I then blasted hot water through it for just 30 seconds ... I wouldn't say it's spotless but it's probably 90% clean, actually a lot cleaner than expected. The water was hot enough to get things gooey I guess, it cleaned the glass screen part with the mixture of hot water and pressure, the other bits I got with a q-tip.

Would post a photo but I'm on the way out the door!

Unfortunately I didn't have much luck using distilled water for cleaning. I got a 99 cent gallon from target and I was excited to try it out. After about 4 times longer than normal in the sonic cleaner and my bubbler was still pretty dirty. I had it at 40 degrees and ran it for almost 15 minutes. I think it would of cleaned it eventually, but putting iso in instead got it clean immediately. It did well cleaning the glass on the bowls, but didn't really clean the screen at all. Again iso immediately worked. I loved the idea of using water, doesn't seem like it's working out for me though. I'm sticking with iso for now unfortunately.

It's definitely the easiest to clean for me. Unlike the other ones it doesn't really clog and I don't notice a taste difference when I think it looks dirty. When all my other bowls have clogged screens I know the glass screen bowl is always good to go.

I just ordered some of that 'dark crystal glass' cleaner to see if that works. I think the water worked for those guys because it was hot. Did you boil it before doing the sonic cleaning?

No, I just used the heater in the sonic cleaner. It only got it to about 40-45f, more warm than hot.

@StormyPinkness thanks for sharing again and saving me some time and disappointment for when I have a crack at my Sphere. I may try on part vinegar to 2 parts distilled water though first and see if that can get rid of the stubborn water mark.
Failing that- bicarb then ISO.
For regular bubbler cleaning I will use ISO. I have followed all your reports so far, including the diffetent cycles you do but I may have misunderstood. I think from what I gathered (or imagined, I do this lol!) you maybe were doing a cycle with re-used "first run" ISO, then another with cleaner ISO after a water rinse invetween. That makes sense but I could have gotten mixed up or remembered it wrong, I will go back and check your posts again though.

I do re-use my ISO but may do 2 runs like this. I soaked my FC 186 in ISO and salt recently, but on rinsing I obviously didn't rinse all of the salt out of the percs and I ended up with salt marks on the inside of the bubbler which I kind of like watermarks now and have not come out with subsequent ISO cleaning. So I will have a go at that as well not sure what fluid for that purpose at the moment.

Thanks for pioneering and reporting back for us @StormyPinkness

I do think it worked for those guys because it was hot. I'll bet if you heat up the water before doing the sonic cleaning it works better :) I may try myself, but I've been saving up to do some vaporizer stem milk so it might be a while before I get a chance.
