The Nomad From Morwood

almost there

Thanks @duff you’re a good friend:). Is it more comfortable to hold it sideways? I was quite surprised so many went with the native walnut, it’s my favorite really once the eliteness of some of the other woods was to be discounted but i truly love them all:love:. Having so many choices is as bad as having none:shrug:. I’m so overwhelmed I’ve been neglecting my research..choices, choices:rofl:

Have any of you guys noticed the heater module sticking once it warms up after a session.
It doesn’t get stuck but the heat expansion definitely is in effect.
Once it cools down it slips right out.
I’m not complaining just curious if anyone else has noticed it.

@natural farmer , Conduction module may be tricky. I could imagine a heater module with built-in herb chamber... but the chamber would get to be fairly small. I think @sixstringsmash has the right idea... for a hybrid convection/conduction steel/silver insert that would go into the glass stem.

Also, with conduction, you've got the heat up time to contend with. Heat dissipation can be challenging in a small vape made from wood.

And as a final nail in the coffin.. without electronics, I imagine it would be difficult to control the peak temperature.

Perhaps it's possible, but more experimentation is required... the conduction only heater module is not really on

I've got faith in you to do it Dan!:D:p

An on-demand conduction heater could be tricky indeed, I know. That's why there are NO electronic vapes in the market right now that do that. And only one that does it right with butane imho, the Vapcap. I had high hopes that Crater (remember that prototype from a couple of years ago?) but it's creator apparently stopped development without any communication to us... :(
I came to love the vapor signature of on-demand conduction and I'd love to see more vapes like that out there. My throat doesn't agree with convection vapor anymore. :ugh:
About the Nomad and a conduction heater module, what came in mind was a module of which the metal circumference would extend to the bowl area and the glass stem would go in, something like the Arizer portable heaters and temp would be controlled by clicking bimetallic disks (or other shape) that would click at the right temp (like Vapcap) in order to avoid electronics. There could be low, mid or high temp clicker modules maybe that could be attached to the main heater module? :science:
Anyway, just wishfull thinking and obviously too early in the Nomad devopment but dreamers may dream right? And share their dreams in a friendly forum with their favorite vape creators? :p:lol:

For those first batchers: Can you compare each heater to something with similar heat? Is the high heater more similar to a splinter or some other vape? Same for the lower heat one.

Yes I have noticed it and had this issue. Both of mine do this although one of the modules is tighter than the other. One is impossible to remove without waiting for it to cool and then it is still extremely difficult to take out even when cold and takes a fair amount of effort to extract.

EDIT: Left the Nomad overnight to cool and now cant remove the high heat module. Stuck fast and I really DON’T wanna take some grips to it to pull it out! Any suggestions?

I also seem to be having a few issues with the button and making contact. It seems quite sporadic and doesn’t always seem to make a decent connection. Or maybe I’m not pressing hard enough, but it hurts my thumb I’m pressing so hard sometimes.
When holding the button and looking down through the intake sometimes it glows red almost instantly other times nothing happens or takes a time for it to get glowing. I’m not sure if this is user error or a problem with the connection. I have taken the button out and cleaned the contact pad and contact point on the button with iso and still having the issue. @Dan Morrison I did notice a small ridge to the rear of the brass button housing. Is this meant to be machined flat or is that small ridge supposed to be there? Regarding button stiffness I have also adjusted the thumbscrew to hopefully help.

Would it be possible to get some sort of tutorial for servicing the Nomad please. Hopefully I put the spring and spring insert back together in the correct orientation

Hey @delloy which wood are you using? I was just wondering if it only affects the burl wood Nomads.

@VAPEHUNTER Yeah I have the Burl. I have managed to get the High heat module removed now with just my hands but it was a struggle. And now even cold after leaving it overnight to cool it is very tight to insert and remove. I’m hoping if I just keep putting it in then removing continously for awhile the tolerances might ease and allow removal.

On another note thinking of maybe pairing mine with one of these if it fits. Lovely little soft leather pouch. Just making enquiries now. 2 seperate compartments one for for the vape and one for the accoutrements.

My Nomad is burl, and I haven’t noticed this problem.

Nomad #006 has been unboxed!

Can't quite use it until later tonight but I was playing around with it a bit. The one weird thing I did notice is that some of my 18650's(samsung 30q) are too tight for this vape and won't fit through the battery opening. My other batteries such as the sony vtc5a and vtc6 seem to be a little tight but still fit in with no problems, but the 30q battery is just way too thick and won't fit in the Nomad any which way shape or form.

I have only one 30q, and it has the same problem. Not a big deal, as I have plenty of other batteries that do work, but it’d be good to be aware of this when purchasing batteries for the Nomad.

@GreenHopper They have some nice leather items, but I just wanted something plain and simple so I could toss in the Nomad pull the drawstring and stuff into my pocket . Nice pouch though might have a closer look at that one.
