Discontinued Custom Crafty Battery Packs for Easy Replacement

So I eventually managed to get the batteries changed in my Mighty, the improved heat up times with the VTC6 are something else.
Also fairly convinced I'm getting better overall performance even potentially vs when the device was new (Was almost 3 years ago though!).

Unfortunately, despite reading about them in the main Mighty thread I managed to damage both of the clips for the casing at the top by the bowl. So for the moment my Mighty is held together at the top with a strategically placed zip tie :ugh:
I'm going to look at fixing this in the future along with a piece which has broken off around the bowl area, but I'm yet to read about anyone successfully gluing their Mighty/Crafty so a bit reluctant to fiddling in such a high stress area on the casing.

For anyone thinking of doing this I wouldn't underestimate how precise S&B are when they're putting these things together! It was certainly a lot harder making sure wires weren't in the way when closing the case, than it was soldering the tabs:lol:

Sounds like the Mighty is more difficult to do then the Crafty! (the finicky wires probably about the same). I'm more referring to the potential for damage with the way the case is "clipped" together. With the Crafty, no "clipping" involved, once you remove the 4 screws, it just comes apart easy as pie :)

That was my gut feeling with the VTC6 batteries as well. I did purchase a replacement Panasonic NCR18650PF as well to try when I made my first packs so I was comparing apples-to-apples, and I believe if you go back to my original posts (in the Crafty thread I believe), it discusses the improved performance (specifically heat recovery times) vs the original battery. I tried a handful of different candidate cells before the VTC6 came out as the clear winner. (I was able to narrow the options down to 4 if I remember correctly based on others who are quite knowledgeable in that area ... thanks @mooch from the battery forums online :) )

I have custom Crafty Battery Packs available for easy replacement of your battery pack. I started this project as I felt there should be an easy replacement available, that didn't require shipping your vaporizer back, especially for those of us with a vaporizer out of warranty.

These battery packs come ready to install with a pre-soldered wiring harness that meets or exceeds the specifications of the original. These are perfect for those of you that don't want to spend the time, don't have the tools, or simply aren't comfortable enough, to de-solder and re-solder the wiring harness from the original battery to a new one.

I've also sourced appropriate name brand cells with tabs for optimal performance based on others feedback in this forum, which guided my research (thanks @Vambo1980 for pointing me towards the Sony VTC6 3120mAh cell and for other inspiration and for answering my questions :)) The wire used for the harness is silver plated and rated for high current and low temperature operation.

I'm selling these packs for $40 USD + shipping.

The following are the instructions for installing your battery pack:

My warranty replacement crafty died after 1.5 years and S&B says 2 yr warranty is only for the first unit. They then offered me 50% on crafty or mighty.

I decided to order this replacement battery pack from J-cat. It works great! Crafty feels much cooler to the touch than before....Thank you J-cat!

Awesome :) Very happy that you are happy :)

It has really been a pleasure doing the little bit of business I do on this forum I must say; everyone is a pleasure to deal with and appreciative of the effort and time that goes into this and my other little projects :)

Hey JCat, just signed up to FC, as a friend has given me his old Crafty with a dead battery.

Not sure how to PM you on this forum, but I'm hoping you can ship a new battery to Scotland so I can get the wee beastie up and running again!

Interested to see how it compares with my Boundless CFX...

Hi everyone,

Based on feedback from a couple people that have purchased, I've updated the instructions ever so slightly, and I also recorded a video where I show the installation of a pack and talk about some of the things to be careful for.

The updated instructions can be found here: http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=09116962006551867733

And here's the video instructions for installing the pack (doesn't cover removing the existing pack completely though, as I'm removing my custom pack and installing another one of my custom packs):

Yes please!

And if you could replace the link to the document in the OP with this one that would be great too :) (Minor updates to emphasize the warnings to be careful and not to force the case shut with the screws ... should close snug on it's own without effort, the screws just hold it in place. If it is not snug with no play before putting the screws in, then remove cover, re-position battery and try again ... if you try to force it shut with the screws there is a high probability of cracking the case ...)

Hello, do you ship this to Brazil? Can you please contact me?
Hi @fredolho,

I can ship to Brazil, you'd be looking at about $25 in shipping though in order for it to be trackable and insured. I could ship it for ~$10, but then it would not be insured nor trackable (Small Packet International Surface or Small Packet International Air)

Unfortunately, I'm currently all out of stock! I placed another order ~2 weeks ago (1.5 maybe?) so hopefully will have more in another week or two. I can let you know (send you a private message), as well as I'll post in here as soon as I have more stock.

I would carry more, but to be honest I sold <10 cells in the first 1.5-2 years of selling these! I think I've sold >15 though so far this year (2018). So it wasn't previously worth stocking a lot, but it seems like that might be changing.

At any rate, I should have another dozen in stock in another week or two with any luck.

(You are now the 4th person to ask about them since I sold out of the last 2 earlier this week)

Thanks everyone for the interest and support!

Hi everyone,

Good news :) Looks like cells made it through customs and are on their way to me, so I should have them Wednesday or Thursday, so should be able to get battery packs assembled and ready by end of next week or early the week after at the latest.

I'll keep everyone posted!

Good news everyone ... I will have some more packs ready to ship Friday, and the rest I can ship out on Tuesday (I am out of Town on Monday and don't think I will be back in time to make it by the post office)

First-come-first-server :)

I bet part of the reason you've seen a sharp uptick in sales, is there are simply more aging Crafty's out there in the wild!

My Crafty's battery isn't too bad at this point, and I don't use it all that often right now. But when it starts to fade, you can be sure I'll be hitting you up instead of sending it back to S&B!

Thanks for all you do to help the community!
