Seeing is believing. When you can control the whole proces, from seed to plates, magick can happen ...

Biker kush flower rosin

Buttered up second day, but oh my God, this is as close to literally squishing and concentrating every aspect of the oils present in a flower that I came.

That is a beautiful pressing @tepictoton ! That biker kush is giving amazing colors. How long of a cure did this flower have?

I have recently began squishing again. Life has been busy but that rosin has to be made for medicine, so back to the rosin room I go and tried out 65% RH bovedas on some electric lemon g flowers that seem to be mids, nothing exceptional. Thankfully, to make a press, it's a quick 15-20 min preheat followed by a 5 minute pressing and collection. Even a busy life has time for pressing!

Pressed at 210F with about 2300 PSI for about 2 mins and yielded nearly 22%. I suppose I expected more so perhaps the material is to question. The extra 3% RH didn't seem to impact the consistency, it was the same as what I see using 62%'s. More testing on this will be needed with different cultivars, but so far I am not sure if having a lot of different bovedas are necessary, the 62's may just be the one to rule them all

I have some 5wk old cured think different which I am still not pleased with the smell, it seems like it needs another couple of weeks. Once it smells right I will be pressing that and hope to get some less mature rosin to sample.

Hope everyone's having a dab filled weekend :leaf:

That just happened...
The dabpress puck maker and filter bags are really nice. I am finally getting the hang of bottletek. In fact my friend Rick came up with a novel way of using the new dabpress gear. Put the filter bag inside the puck maker tube and fill it up tamping it down as you go. Fold the top over and then use a clamp to really compact it. This way you can fit larger bottleteks inside the 3x7 plates. That has been my limitation. He's calling it Ricktek. lol

Tried out the pre-press pucker with 7g today. I was able to press fluffy buds down into a nice 1" tall cylinder. @elmomuzz that method is rock solid bro! I loved how perfectly the puck fit into the filter. One thing I will note, using 7g for sure seems to be the max I would use in it, so the manufacturer recommendation seems spot on to me. One thing to keep in mind, because we are only using hand pressure to form the puck, it will be spongy yet, so it will expand some. You may need to re-squeeze it between your fingers once you have the filter almost wrapped up, so those with caged plates can fit it under the plates.

I did have some tearing of the filter, but no contaminant got into my rosin. I pressed it with 3.25 tons of pressure! Serious pressure because the puck was already fairly thick and dense. The rosin poured out very quickly and actually started to get to the sides of the plates on both sides with 3 runs off the front that went past the edge of my parchment and onto the silicon mat below it luckily! 23% yield, definitely happy though I think I need to put in some folds to catch anything on the sides or maybe rig up a few thin strips of parchment like rain gutters to catch the overflow =)

There was no need whatsoever to put this beautiful pre-press mold into my hydraulic press. I was able to press it by hand without issues.

Assuming I never have to replace this, well worth the money.

I got my pre-press and bags yesterday. Dabpress sure makes some beautiful products, don't they. LOL I mean, beauty is only skin deep but, who wants the ugly broad. LOL

I have a gig tonight so I will try them tomorrow.

One thing I will be looking for. This pre-press is almost exactly like the one I built and used. And, after a short time the trichs and goop get into the small tolerance and mine jams up. Sometimes, so tight, I need to loose it in my arbor press. So, I'll be watching for that in this pre-press.

I was planning to do a 2 gram, a 3 gram and a 5 gram press to see what size gives me the best results. I'm glad you tried 7. I may try that as well. I didn't think 7 would fit.

I'll also use my arbor press to pre-press. I always do. My old fucking arthritic hands wouldn't press it too tight by hand. LOL I don't use max force. Just enough to keep it tight. If I remember, I'll take thickness measurements on the pucks.

Did you cut the bottom off the bags like it shows in the video? I don't see where that is required. I can see cutting the bag to size and re-using the left-over but I don't see why to toss the bottom stitching. I guess I'll know after testing tomorrow. Can't wait. LOL

@Hackerman I actually folded the corners on the bottom, like what's done with the bottle tech packages then I cut off about 1" of the filter as it was excess on the top side, then folded the top neatly and snugly over the top of the buds.

It should be easy to just cut the bottom threaded part of the filter, and then cut it in half and use one half for 3.5g and another for the other 3.5g. Could also do the same for a 3g and a 5g. I'm guessing if you pre-press hard enough you could likely use 10g per filter split into 2 pucks of 5g each.

Can also try and just press it outright no filter, like @invertedisdead.

EDIT: Regarding the buildup inside the mold, would it be possible to line it with parchment?

Gonna try those filters and pre-press out again. This time gonna do 2x 3.5g's and see how that does. I got some of that keep tahoe blue again (tahoe og x blue dream), it's 18-28% THC so I have pretty good hopes. The last time I was pressing those buds I had a lot less experience and hadn't quite figured out how much pressure I can put on these bottle tech bags.

I'll probably do them one at a time so I can compare the yields, then once I see I'll run them again at some point with a couple filters in the plates.

I am hoping in another week or so I will have some freshly cured nugs to run and hopefully see some lighter colored rosin! Not that it seems to matter much from what I'm medicating with, the dark cuvee I have is the most impressive, it has a potency that has no ceiling. You can dab yourself to the point of feeling very dizzy and a little nauseous. Too bad it's an ind. dom hybrid =/ I need sativas for pain relief and to keep my ass off the couch!

I ran some tonight. I am still collecting so I don't know the results yet. The pre-press worked great. I broke the filter on every load so I must just be pressing too hard.

I did 2g, 3g and 5g presses. All pucks and all in filters. Then, I ran a 2g puck without the filter and a 5g load that I did not pre-press, I just crammed it in a filter and pressed it.

Yield looks about normal but, I'll post when I get it all collected and weighed.

I've started in on my own personal material. Doing a little showcase of how I use the pm3015r pre-press mold and the bt160ns filters with some organic supersoil think different autoflower buds. These were lower buds, not tops. Decent yields, flavor is OK, I've had better! Effects were good but definitely not as potent as my caregiver 25% THC nug rosin. Hoping the top cola yields a lot better with more potent effects. These nugs were jarred about 7 1/2 weeks ago.

Like that bag loading tech!! Pre press ram rod :D
The oil really ran off the plates proper too!

I just finished collecting this rosin. Damn, fucking sticky mess. I find the high CBD rosin is always way more sticky. I wonder why?

About average yield (12%) for this strain. I did find I got almost the same yield using a filter or not using a filter (which I found a little odd). And I also found the 5g load that was NOT pre-pressed yielded almost exactly the same as the load that WAS pre-pressed.

Next run, I am going to abandon bottle tek and stuff the filter full and lay it flat with the stitching towards the back. I don't think bottle tek is really taking advantage of the 3x7 plate size. Unless, I line 2 or 3 of them up side by side.

I did remember to take a shot of the pressed pucks. They are 2 gram, 3 gram and 5 gram. And, the are about 2/8", 3/8" and 5/8". So, about 1/8" per gram when pressed with a 1 ton arbor press, not at full pressure. Using the new DabPress puck press.

So far I have been most impressed with the yields using 5g or less for bottle tech using the pre-press and filters. 7 grams works just fine but I am seeing 1-2% less yields which I believe is due to a more thick compressed puck versus one that squishes down more thinly.

Something else I've found, at least with the few presses I've done with the pre-press puck maker, 2.75 tons is about as high as you can go with 7g until the filter will start ripping. This a lot of PSI so any more I am not certain will even yield more but it's something to keep in mind. Pressed pucks are 1.75" diameter, so the 2.75 ton safe zone is right around 2300 PSI.

Anyhow, those are my thoughts up to this point, I am going to continue to use the filters just to keep the puck size uniform, plus I need to work on my cannabutter washing technique so I need a little extra oil to work with in the pucks =)

To be honest,I would love to recommend dp-bj6t35 - heat up with dp-rp35 temp controller, frame made of H-shaped steel, power by 6 ton hydraulic bottle jack.

dp-bj6t35 Hydraulic rosin press kit

Pros

1, dabpress's pid control always work in good condition
2, Frame made of H shaped steel is solid
3, Easy to maintance, rosineer can replace bottle jack very easily(VERY IMPORTANT)
4, 6-ton bottle jack delivers 1,000 psi - ideal pressure
5, Affordable price more than dp-hr10t35 made of stainless steel

Cons

1, No gauge on the bottle jack
2, We recommend 4-8 ton bottle jack to be replaced, bottom cold plate will be bent a lot if pressing by over 10 tons.(I have to consider the weight of package, but it is easy to deliver 1,000psi ideal pressure)

dp-hr10t35 hydraulic ram rosin press kit

Pros

1, Mini size, shorter more than 2L coke
2, To be automatic rosin press if it is paired with auto pump
3, Frame made of 304 stainless steel, it is costy
4, Pid controller is same as pid controller box of dp-rp35

Cons

1, Intergrated with 10 ton hydraulic ram,so hydraulic ram is hard to replace by rosineers

Here is pictures of prototype

Finally I love to share the innovation with my competitors. with full competition, rosineers will get more and more better choices.
