The Nomad From Morwood

Huh. What is the supposed shipping time for the first batch looking like now? I could have sworn I had seen that they were supposed to ship out in a week like a month ago but I must have dreamed that because I can't actually find that stated anywhere.

For whatever it's worth, I heard from Dan on IG. He is well and is spending a lot of time in his shop.

I'm sure we'll be hearing from him soon.
Cool. It may sound weird, but I constantly have this fear people are just going to suddenly die and I had this picture in my head of Dan in some horrible accident. My mind is a bad place.

The Nomads have shipped!

I sent half today, the other half are in boxes to be shipped on Monday (they all leave the post office on Monday anyhow). I'll send tracking numbers on Tuesday via email. I have three custom design ones that will go out next week as well, so those three people will get their tracking info later in the week.

To those three... I tried to balance finishing the custom details... with finishing the entire batch. I decided it was OK to send out the majority now... and the rest a few days later when they are complete.

Oh mannnnnnnn. What a milestone. Holy shit. I was beginning to think this day would never come. I've never worked so long and hard on a single project.

I had planned on shipping these a couple weeks ago... but... I decided to make a couple last changes to the design. I knew it would be worth it in the end.

The changes were made to the connector bridge, and the connector bridge screw.

This was the original design. The connector bridge is connected with a slot head SS screw. It proved to be a little difficult to adjust this screw by hand... where I had no problem with my screwdriver-like fingernails, others would most likely struggle with this adjustment.

7VjjQL3.jpg

This adjuster screw has two functions. 1. It allows the use of different length 18650 batteries, since there is often a very small difference of a fraction of a millimeter between manufacturers. 2. It allows you to lock down the connector bridge in the hard OFF position for safely transporting the Nomad.

I wanted to make the adjustment of this screw more user friendly.

Here is the new and improved connector bridge.

2GL4X2O.jpg

The center post is made from SS and brass. The threads are SS (for extra wear resistance), and the knurled top is brass. I've added black patina to bring out the texture and dull down the yellow color.

xmlMZx8.jpg

The hand engraved texture is easy grip, allowing for easier height adjustment with your fingers.

I also added a raised pad on the battery terminal end of the connector bridge.

rpI1mQy.jpg

This raised pad allows the connector bridge to lay horizontal and above the battery wrap. Looks a little better, functions a little better.

These two improvements really completed the entire package I think, I'm glad I made the change before these went out. I also took the time to add four more coats of finish.

Here are some more random shots I got...

Notice the red silicon O-Rings.

The lichens still exhibit their original color and texture, as if they were still in the forest.

I love this view, clean shot through the stem. No mysteries here.

The gold leaf inks with the bronze, and the red ink with the padauk... damn.

I don't think words can express how thankful I am to everyone here, especially those who have supported this first batch... and waited so patiently for them all this time. I honestly could not have done it without you.

So happy for you @Dan Morrison and all of the people in the first batch!

...and for me because I’m one step closer to being able to buy one too!

One little detail I don’t think I saw addresses though; how does the new adjustment screw fit with the sleeve? Is there a hole that lets it fit into the bottom plate, or what?

I’m glad it’s easier to adjust now though, because I could see that being a little annoying to deal with on a regular basis if you had to use a tool every time.

Phenomenal work as always Dan, your work is truly masterclass and these nomads shipping is a great achievement. Not only is every detail painfully beautiful, but every nomad is unique and beautiful in its own way while still being cohesive and part of the nomad line.

I love everything that you're doing here, and I'm excited for you to start working on mine but equally excited to see how the nomad will evolve over time or what vape project you'll take on next.

I bored a matching hole on the inside of the wood bottom to accommodate the added height of the brass knob. So no change in the way that the sleeve fits. The hole doesn't go through the wood bottom, so it doesn't change the outside appearance of anything.

And thanks!! :)

Thank you man!

I'm so excited to start the next batch, and to have new heater modules on the workbench. The fun thing about the Nomad is that with a simple module change, you can essentially change the entire experience. It's something I've had a lot of fun playing around with.

I am sure that small changes will happen with feedback from this first batch. The Nomad will be an ongoing project of refinement.

@buckhakeesah

Here's the front view, turned out awesome!

Yes, yes they did

Great job buddy

I already want another one, please put me back on the list good sir!
:clap::rockon:

I don't want my Nomad to wander alone, can I request the same please @Dan Morrison :brow:

You made the right choice in my view.

The effort shines in every one of these intoxicating (see what I did there?) devices :D

I did not make it in in the first nor second batch.

However this is exciting? This is the first time ever shipping notifications for packages going out to other people matter ...

Buttons are soon to be shown of like there is no tomorow.

Ow, and yeah, finally we can see them vape these machines?

Elf infused alchemy, it must be. Get one just to sprinkle space dust in it?

Be proud, you 25 first owners club people.

Oh, and you too @Dan Morrison. You can be proud too?

PS I am still in the list right? you know @Dan Morrison the buttonlist? Am I, can I still foresee a No-mad future? Or should I just go mad?

Dan, for myself, and I am sure most others that have been following your grow and progress in designing the Nomad. I give you the highest respect for not rushing a product to your customers, and always giving us a window into your aesthetic insights of the imperfections you became aware of through your R & D. I applaud you, Dan Morrison. We thank you for now giving us a piece of art that will function flawlessly. I thank you for your integrity, I marvel at your attention to detail, and appreciate the time and energy that has gone into these masterpieces. So thank you Dan, take a short break and get the next batch going. Just kidding...Take a moment or three, decompression and enjoy this milestone. It is a pleasure to be part of this journey.

Oh my.....good.....God!
These look ASTONISHING!
Lovely lovely work Dan :bowdown::clap::love:

Your photography is, once again, superb too

My only concern is that we're going to need microscopes to REALLY appreciate the finest of the details you are conjuring (dat hand engraved brass.....ooooooo).

Really looking forward to seeing some clouds soon guys
