Fog by X-Vape

but do u want to buy a vape u have to void the warranty (and maybe damage it) to make it safe to use?
Given all of the right things that the Fog has going for it, its price point, and all of the recently reported off-gassing issues and questionable materials in other vapes on the market, I actually would consider this.

That doesn't sound good at all. Maybe I just didn't use mine often enough to find that dust? Maybe it was divine intervention I crashed mine? I find it an itsy-bitsy bit awkward that XVape hasn't reacted yet. @PPN could maybe contact the manufacturer in China, I understand there is some relation?
Yes, I'll try to get an answer.... I know they got a new version of the Fog in work.

It's strange some units seems to be free of this dust, mine get a lot of dust and hairs (from horses and dry grass) which passed through the air inlets on the side. But maybe this is not the issue if you kept it away from dusty place and this white powder comes from the vape itself...

edit: just send an email asking for infos about our concerns...

Hi, I got a reply from X-Vape and they want I share it here on FC:

"Couple months ago, since we first noticed this concern on internet, it attracted our highest attention, and our factory started to improve it at the first time.

The improvements are:
1, To seal the insulation material completely with environmentally friendly non-toxic tapes and ensure that the air-path and insulation material are isolated.
2, In view of the above methods, we can ensure that there is no leakage of any material.
At the same time, in order to provide better experience on our product, we will always strengthen on new materials and new technologies.

The consumers’ feedback and concerns are always been highly anticipated by us, and we will continually and gradually improve the quality of our products. If you have any questions or suggestions in the future, please do not hesitate to share."

I will receive soon a new version of the Fog, there will be colored options... maybe.

So do we know what that means? They are aware of the White powder, but its of no concern? OR they were made aware of the white powder, they made changes and the new ones dont have issues, but the old ones can kill you?

I didn't find any of that dust in my disassembled Fog but no such tape either, so either I didn't heat it up as often as others or it doesn't happen every time. The shop I bought it from has it from Verdampftnochmal who are apparently the main importers, so I don't think it's an old unit. Which makes me wonder why it hasn't got that tape... or maybe their english is a little too chinese. My understanding is they noticed the problem months ago and took care of it immediately, but as I said: mine didn't have that tape.

Anyone knows where that first concern appeared? I bought mine a couple of month ago and did not find anything about that...
Why keep something like that under the 'dusty carpet'? I would have trouble  at night, knowing that i put such a product out there and didn't do anything about the existing ones :myday: ( yes, i keep my moralic standards in a soap bubble away from capitalism ;) )

environmentally friendly non-toxic tapes
sounds nice, but by what standards :suspicious:?
And they still don't say anything about the material names of insulaton and tape...:horse:

IDK... although they had to send me a improved unit but they forgotten to do it (and I forgotten to ask) but, at this time, I have no idea which improvements they was planning.

It's strange @PuffItUp, @VapoShop and @lacentralevapeur never noticed/shared this issue and that @Hammahead didn't found any tape in his device...

My Fog get a hard fall yesterday... 1m50 fall on concrete... and rebounds! A lot of scratches but the device still work perfectly although I'm waiting for the new fixed version to Fog me again!

Here some more infos from the manufacturer:

1, The white powder actually is food-grade silica, mainly to prevent insulation materials form a block to ensure good heat insulation. This kind of material is also widely used in coffee and cocoa and other foods field.

2, We strictly ask our supplier to provide the MSDS and SGS certificate to ensure safety before we use this material.

3, There was only a very small part of exposure for the insulation materials before, and when use the vaporizer, the herb itself will also play a filtering function.

4, There are 2 reasons for the change, the first is to make it looks cleaner; the second is to eliminate any potential healthy issue. Any concerns from our guests will be taken seriously and we hope to do better. As you know this is always what we did.

Yes the reply is not totally satisfying.... like the fact the herb will act as a filter too... I asked if the guys who get a V1 Fog can get a replacement units in order to show to the community how much they are concerned about customer satisfaction.... they have to think about this solution... I'll let you know what happens!

Well, imo concluding from that old peer study that it is safe to inhale that dust is leaning a bit far out of the window... Vaping specific conditions like eg elevated dust temps and the usual deeper inhalation are not researched.

Safe or not who is the wrong question wants to pollute vapor with dust?

So we know the dust is silica, but what's the other material of the insulation that it breaks down from?
And how does the 'improved' version look? just sealed with a few layers of tape :suspicious: ?

Two days ago I received the new version of the Fog which is still avalaible since a few months. From the outside there is some small differences like the top lid which is slightly different and they seems to do it sturdier, the air inlets are not exactly the same too and I can't see any dust trough them but only a black insulative surface , on my old Fog I can see some dust, I thought it was coming from environment but, it is maybe, the white powder mentionned before... I didn't opened mine.

Button feel sturdier too, performances are still top notch... imo!!

I met a guy yesterday which was interested about vaporizers, last month, during a party, I shared a Fog's load with him and he was especially excited about this vape. He wants to get it, I told him it was an old version with some small doubts about airpath components but he still want to get it! So I gave him my old Fog along with another good vape pen for dry herb.

I have been in personal contact with Xvape and they ensured me there is no health hazzard.
They changed the insulating material in the latest update of the FOG to take away the doubts. If there is any problem with your model please let them know at mail@ support@topgreencig.com feel free to DM me as well if you need any info!

Cheers

How did they do that? - did they do studys with humans inhaling silica @150C? :suspicious:

I won't give them the benefit of a doubt, that the new version is better without any pics and names of the used materials - other companys at least try to react decent to problems...

Can I say you already mentionned your problem several time in this thread, maybe you can open a new thread about your health concerns about inhaling silica? I understand your concerns and everybody will see them in this thread.

And I want to add Topgreen reacted a while before you/we noticed this issue, maybe they don't communicate a lot but they reacted decently and replaced the insulation material. I will ask them which is the new one but everybody can do it on the previously mentionned email, thanks.

Well, i thought questioning such a statement is what this place is here for? if he knows more he's free to let us know...
And how can u call the new version better/safer without looking/knowing what is inside?
Don't get me wrong, i just prefer the simple concept of proof/facts over hearsay... ;)

CAPSULES, we need capsules please!. I am a heavy user, during the day I smoke CBD weed without thc and for this, a 18650+capsules vaporicer is essential for me. Now I use a xmax V2 with flowermate capsules (I bought around 30 of them and I made my own pods) and it is a great option, but a Fog with capsules can be the perfect vaporicer. Maybe something similar to crafty capsules? Please xvape I beg you! hehe

The Fury 2 dosing capsules work with the Fog. I don't have any pics, but I've been using these in the Fog for a few days. I have been really impressed with how well these work in the Fog. Coming from a Boundless CF with EZ-Load Bowls, I like the Fury dosing capsules better. Smaller and these travel better pre-packed.

https://www.healthyrips.com/store/p45/FURY_2:_Set_of_5_Dosing_Capsules.html

Healthy Rips says these are 11mm tall x 10mm wide. The Fog chamber, based on my caliper measurements, is 11.6-11.7mm wide. I couldn't really measure the depth, but the capsules have a little bit of room to move up and down when you shake the fog. There is plenty of clearance between the silicon wrapped filter and the capsules.

My only complaint is the capsules are difficult to handle due to the small size. I see why Storz and Bickle sell the loading trays with the Might and Crafty capsules. I don't believe the Mighty/Crafty capsules will fit in the Fog based on the measurements I have seen in some reviews of those capsules. Appear too wide.

The Fury dosing capsules also fit in most key chain pill capsules too. A pill capsule like this will hold 3-4 Fury dosing capsules.

I was also in on the discussion concerning the powder. I ended up keeping the Fog I ordered. I have not seen any powder through the grill slits. I have not taken it apart though.

Good to know!

Anyone else have a bit of trouble removing the mouthpiece? I followed some instructions posted in this thread and succeeded, but not without struggle and slight cosmetic damage (fortunately it's unnoticeable). Now the silver part that holds the mouthpiece in place swivels a bit along with the MP itself but thankfully not enough to affect performance.
