 Oh yeah!

Oh, I know it! I remember after you first posted that I need to do something for you. So now fine grinds, baskets(aka Canadian style), and tears are all covered.

When I make the heaters, they get a burn-in of 100+ continuous hours. Run it as long as you like.

I can't make one crack when I try to make one crack. It might be related to cooling down in a fast way? Maybe I packed the material too tight? Like I said before, it is not an issue when most of the heater is covered.

I'm glad you have not noticed any change in performance. If you ever do, I can re-build any heater (for a fee).

I recently tried something that I've always wanted to try - super tiny beads. I wasted a bunch of concentrate before I got a nice flow by putting a dab directly on the heater and using a temp of 950F. Still though, it was a mess. There is a part of me that wanted to try using the middle in a clean vape to see how that would look since I tried melting from the side with my first few attempts. I did get to see vapor move through the vape and that was neat.

3beu5ev.jpg

Other than the mess, it did work in a faster way than anything else I have tried. I would get the strongest hit with my 1st breath after a dab. There really wasn't much of a second hit.

lTxmElh.jpg

10 minutes in the ultrasonic cleaner in a bag of simple green got the mess out of the glass. ISO wasn't denting fast enough.

I am thinking it would be easier to just toss in a round fritted disc and heat that up inside. I am gonna try a few different porosities to see what works best. more here:
http://chemglass.com/fritted-filter-discs-1?

I will give it a go so we all can... :science::science::science::science::science:
On my 1st gen heater I tried at almost 1k with the funnel bowl and some concentrate on top of a glass fritted disc.

shopping

It kind of worked. I definitely got some of the taste, but vaping it took many consecutive hits. I wondered if the 2nd gen heater basically being 100 degrees hotter might work.

@jojo monkey I'm curious if the tiny beads make any difference with flower that you noticed? I would think more surface area would transfer heat better. More beads makes more air more hotter?

Those small beads remind me of the ones HA uses in their concentrate crucible. They use layers of fine mesh screens and those to make tons of surface area for wax to spread out and vape off of.

If you (or anyone else) wants to try the small ones, send me a note. You really just need enough for an inch at the top of the heater. I can sell some by the ounce. The smaller you go, the more expensive they are.

The immediate difference is that there is a big drag. I found it at the edge of not fun. I almost wanna try one size bigger. I think to date I've tried 8 sizes in the vape? IMO the GS beads have the right balance of drag and performance.

almost 1k with the funnel bowl and some concentrate on top of a glass fritted disc.

Try putting that fritted disk inside the 3way adapter right up to the heater. Run w/o the handle. Maybe take out a few beads to have ez access. That's what I wanna try next. You have the parts already!

Side note heater tip:

Things are fine as long as the heater is not glowing brighter than dark red. You should not see it glowing with the lights on. Glowing yellow, orange, and white are waaay too high.

Almost there...
I need some help from the GS community! Especially those that use the micro load bowl and an EQ screen!
So far i have lowered my temps by 50F and am still achieving perfect ABV, better than before.

It sounds odd but please give it a go and report back!!

You will need a spare EQ screen for this mod.
The solid rim of the EQ screen fits inside the male joint of the 3 way adapter with the basket hanging down. Insert it at a slight angle and then use the basket to straighten it out a bit and secure it gently.
Load up your regular EQ bowl load at your regular temps and see what happens!

I will post up a pic of the set up shortly!

EDIT:
Went down to 785 but the vapor was not as thick as i usually like it. Have to bump it up to 795.
Not bad for the same performance but a 55F drop in temp!

The basket screens I tried wouldn't fit snug in there. I only tried the ones I use with my tubo stems though, I'll see if I have any others lying around that are bigger.

I press the sides of the bowl out a bit for a better fit.

Yeah, I tried too and couldn't squeeze it. I did get my eq baskets from a 3rd party seller. Maybe they are not the same size?

UPDATE:

:leaf::leaf:Happy 420!:leaf::leaf:

a pic of the GS glass mesh (for the glass mesh bowl)

MahXufe.jpg

I made some mockups and calculated the open surface of 8 glass mesh configurations. I went with the most open option. The "thicker than the norm" mesh should change the curve of how herb heats up and cools down in a good way - a ramp up from room temp and a cap off so we don't cook off the good stuff or introduce charred flavors. It should also hold up to many stirs and smooshes.

I can't wait to see it. :science: It is in production now. The mesh was holding things up for a bit. The glass mesh bowl should offer a unique all-glass experience. I think it will be nice on the eyes too

Coming soon!

Still loving my Glass Symphony! @jojo monkey has worked some magic into this thing!
Ha! No magic. The spheres just make paisley air.:brow:

"The alternate shedding is called the Karman vortex street." -nasa

Many of my morning dabs have been replaced by a GS bowl!
I always hoped the GS could do this for some people. Thanks for the report. Single extractions FTW!
I've also been using the Newvape double weave Ti screen on top of the stock GS screen in my funnel bowl. Works great! :D
I gotta try this. :science:

I was browsing another vape forum and came across @VCBud 's Best Desktop Vaporizers list!

And the Glass Symphony is on it!!
Congrats @jojo monkey !!!! Your vape is the most unknown on the list, let's change that!

Order shown (random):
  • Volcano
  • Extreme-Q
  • E-Nano
  • WoodScents
  • Glass Symphony
  • FlowerPot
  • Sublimator
  • VapeXhale
  • Plenty
I can thank you and @Zow237 for putting me on his radar. :bowdown:Thanks.

Bud's a heck of a nice guy and a paying customer. I am honored to be on the 2018 desktop list. He's helped put a spotlight on the GS for sure. People tend to tell me how they found me and I've had quite a few come from his forum.

@StormyPinkness :clap:

Great pics!

"That's no moon!"

"She rides" indeed! Great job! I want one.

Are you gonna sell in on shapeways? Or maybe dump the model somewhere?

I know I'd use my Symphony a lot more if I had a decent stand for it.

I am working on options. I did release this to buy and an option to hack up.:

If you just want the existing stand go to this link: https://www.treatstock.com/3d-printable-models/65048-gs-beta-stand

PLA comes in many colors so you don't just have to do the wood mix. Want glow in the dark? Transparent? Lime green? There are many choices. I would not use the PLA stand if you use the vape above 900F. That seems to be the limit. I did get a sweet smell from heating it too but have not measured any changes to the dimensions.

If you want to modify the size, shape, or just take it apart go here:

https://www.tinkercad.com/things/l7vyIhdvOay-gs-beta-stand

I still like the "white powder coating lab stand" on ebay too. That thing can take a bump and the vape will never get stuck in it since it's just a big round circle.

And hopefully, we'll have a @StormyPinkness option too.

Im not complaining whatsoever but why is the reason for so much material going through the screens?

Ive usually got to double and sometime even triple the amount of screen used into the funnel bowl just to prevent material getting through and then into my mouth.

Im assuming I should try finer holed screens but still is anyone else experiencing this?

I have never experienced this using either @jojo monkey supplied screens or using my favorite method with the EQ bowl.
What screens are you using?
I have super fine ones from @jojo monkey theater nothing through.
I am also using a very fine grind and only get build up in the stem.

I'll do a good news bad news deal with the stand, good news first:
The model is up for download on thingiverse, it is free and does not require an account. That listing also has the 24mm cone I use to make joints in models. I would of done it in my original post but you have to wait 24 hours when you're a new user.

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2877692

Now the bad news:
You need to get it printed yourself in porcelain. Also it takes 2+ weeks and costs $90 with shipping via shapeways. I would LOVE for someone to find a cheaper option, it's limiting when you want it to be porcelain or ceramic though. I might also try to make a cheaper version of this, I need to check how the price is made. I think with porcelain it's mainly based on surface area, I might be able to remove some of the detail and make it cheaper though. I need to read up on it more.

I had originally planned to help people make other stands if they wanted, but I feel like I'd spend most of the time trying to explain why the stuff people want won't work. There's a lot of rules about how big/small things/details can be, even when it passes it can still fail in printing with cracking and loss of detail. Also because I'm a complete newb at this and I use a graphical program to do this vs a cad/math one like actual 3d model designers.

If anyone has ideas on how to make any of this easier/cheaper for the community I'm all ears.

Edit: Forgot some other bad news, no gray glaze at shapeways. The Death Star cannot be gray, which is... sad...

Im using the original screen supplied, but for some reason not sure why but I've experienced this when one of the screens gets placed on top.

Looking at both they seem to be the same size mesh but guess not?

I pop my screens out very often to clean so sometimes ill put the wrong screen in first so this is my assumption for the sessions of material flying into my mouth.

Speaking of screens, my preference is 2 of the original screens in the funnel bowl. I really like the new other material mesh screen that was added along, I've experienced it providing better flavor profiles, but it pops out of the funnel bowl too easily when brushing it get out any abv before my next fresh bowl.

I still always use 2 screens, sometimes 3 if using that newer screen that always pops out, but id say the issue with material actually getting into my mouth was due to which screen is inserted first.

I always end up with lots of abv in-between my 2 screens even with the proper placement. Im assuming one of these screens is too large of mesh size? But like said from the looks i'm not sure which one it is.

Excited to get that glass mesh screen in my hands when the time arrives

Sorry it's doing this. I do have ideas to refine the mesh. The next step would be to have shapes stamped and maybe a ring around it. I always wanted to try a fine mesh and I am glad they show promise. Having a plain cut shape was the cheaper starting point for all of us.

I put the 1" mesh that was in my bowl into a clamp so you can see it sideways. Be sure to give it a lip that is evenly spaced. Once the screen is in position, I like to press the raised edge into the glass to shape it.

Some 1" mesh are thicker than others. I used a few suppliers.

The above is 30+ day heavily used bowl. Without the fine mesh, this thing would be orange.

Still loving my dual EQ basket technique!
I have tried it with and without the basket and with it in place makes a huge difference.
The only way i can explain it is similar to the MiniVap, which uses laminar flow to achieve an even vape.
The glass spheres agitate the air and super heat it and the basket realigns the air into a stream the same diameter as the basket below it full of herb.
My ABV comes out darker and more evenly extracted, so a big win for me!

I also use to be at 950F at the start...Oh BOY!!! I cannot imagine using that temp ever again for herb!
Down to a more civilized 788F, running on Generation 1 heater as well!

This vape needs more people to try it out and be converted!
It looks like a science experiment and pretty much every hit is going to floor you!
Flavor and cloud density are unmatched by any of my other vapes, most of them run very close!!
The GS holds top spot for me, it can be a tie between the GS and the SH!

Do not be afraid!!! Come to the Glass Side!!

Been PM'ing with @MileHighHuman about favorite vapes, likes and dislikes and new technology.
He is a HUGE GS user and absolutely loves it!
I have been hitting my other vapes a lot more lately for some reason...

After half a day of using my other vapes and some discussions about the GS, I decided to fire her up!
My wife asked if i wanted to watch a movie last night and I was keen but after i hit the GS a few times!
When i moved my ass downstairs and sat on the sofa, she looked at me and asked me how high i was...
I looked in the mirror and i was BAKED AF!! WOW!!!
After using my EVO, SV4 and Showerhead, the GS knocked me into an even further dimension!!
This thing is fucking dangerous!! And i LOVE IT!!!

Dropped my temp some more and the flavor keeps improving!
Trying to find the ultimate balance between flavor and acceptable clouds now.

EDIT:

Just thinking out loud again...
I know a lot of people are afraid of all glass, looks breakable etc and stop them from buying this amazing device. Not good!
So how about a V2?
Same concept exactly, so it is a Glass Symphony through and through!
Shorthen the heater, new 3 way that is shorter and possibly wider for the same mass, the handle has to go and maybe just a stopper with a mesh screen for airflow.
Now turn it upside down and mount it in a cylinder!
!00% all glass, MOST powerful full convection desktop available!
I would buy one!! It would be amazing!!!

I still need to try getting eq basket up the 3way adapter. I do use an eq basket now and again. It is a pretty dense hit. I also think it makes it very easy to control the size of the dose.

I love that it looks like a science experiment! I did have someone tell me that it looks like something from a sci-fi movie.

Ha! You are in full on creative mode! I too have thought about those things. The GS was made to have longevity by being compatible with off the shelf parts. The large heater in the GS is another fixed thing. I love the amount of heat it offers. I won't ever change the core GS parts. I will offer some custom 3way adapters in the future.

A new v2 vape would be a whole other thing and a new thread.

Why do you want the vape to point up? Like a log so you can flip it onto a bubbler?

Any more testing with those fritted disc? Ive got the 2nd gen hotter heater and have been thinking about attempting. Right now im just mixing my concentrates with my flower bowls, but the sticky stuff can get difficult to load into the bowl. Also will probably pick up the other glass fritted disc that JoJo linked too.

An invention / attachment that will place concentrates closer to the heater would be very interesting to experiment with. I've found my heater handles concentrates when mixed with flowers just fine, that might be due to mine being 100F hotter, but im feeling with the oil even closer to the heat it'd work wonderfully.

Also, have you ever attempted any flower hits with those as your screen??

I recently read somewhere that there still has yet to be any glass screen that will prevent abv from passing thru. So JoJo, have you experienced any abv pass thru those new upcoming glass mesh screen you posted in the thread? They look designed different from all the other glass screen attempts, so Im curious to if these can prevent all abv from flowing into our glass piece?

Fyi for all users out there ive found ripping this monster with hard inhalations puts out massive clouds and powerful effects.

Last, I really like using smaller sized rigs, but due to the huge heater it can be dangerous/impossible due to getting your face/hair so close to the heater. So now while a dropdown is a simple option, im not a fan of extra glass or attachments, so I was seeing if anyone else is interested in getting a few funnel bowls produced they have an extra type of extension? Excuse the awful drawing, but this is what ive got in mind so we can use any size rig with this powerhouse https://imgur.com/a/S6zqbMj

Not yet. Your asking is making me want to do it sooner.
Also, have you ever attempted any flower hits with those as your screen??
Yeah. One of my first bowls used a fritted disc. I found they have too much drag and are hard to clean. I ended up chipping it out of the bowl and put a screen on top. I only had one of these.

I do think a fritted disc could be fine for concentrates. We will need a 3way of sorts that has easy access to the heater.

I recently read somewhere that there still has yet to be any glass screen that will prevent abv from passing thru. The pack is how I hope to reduce the amount of what will fly through the holes. The pack is your mesh. There will be some draw resistance with this one. Will ABV get in? Probably. If you keep things chunky it should work right.

There are always trade-offs. I think each bowl offers something different to experience.

Want to see herb cook from many angles? Want big air flow? Want to re-vape .5 grams of abv? The stadium bowl.

Want the full power of the GS? Want no ripe resin through the mesh with a fine grind? Want to use an eq basket? The funnel bowl.

Want an all glass path? Want to use a chunky grinder or hand tear flowers? ...next week!

Neat idea. I will look into it. Maybe I do a small run of these. It will cost more, but will be neat to try.

If you are feeling heat, there are bubblers that allow enough space. Your adapter idea would bridge the gap for sure and allow for more bubblers to be used.

@latulipe999, Can't help myslef, bro
 Joaon where have you been bro? You are usually light years ahead of me on acquiring the top heavy hitters. But my Glass Symphony (220V :brow:) came to stay briefly many months ago, before moving on to a new foster home (sadly it wasn't to be, another one I couldn't tolerate for strange, unknown reasons still.)

Thank heavens though for Sebastien creating the Herbo Ti, a very similarly performing vape (to GS and FP) which somehow I CAN tolerate very well.:hmm: Still a big puzzle to me.

I guess yoy will have another big toy to add to your signature fairly soon.:)

I made a thinner, blank version of the death star stand. So no features and everything half as thick. It knocked off about $10 which personally I don't think is worth it unless you don't want it to look like the death star for some reason...

I took that same blank/thin version and removed some of the dome. That dropped the price another $25, so $35 total. So it'd be $55 shipped instead of $90. I might be able to make it a bit shorter and knock off some more, I'm going to check how far down mine goes in my stand at home first.

I want to mess with the way it looks still, but it ends up looking something like this for $55 shipped:

Capture.png

I think making it half as thick would keep it strong enough, but I'm not 100% sure without testing it so I made a version that's as thick as the death star model which I know works. It only cost about $5 more so $60 shipped:
Capture2.png

To me the cost is mostly about surface area, thinner/thicker doesn't affect it as much.
With porcelain removing these sections and using less material actually increased the price because it made more surface area:

I'm definitely not going to print out and test this so I'm hesitant to put it on thinigiverse for people to download when I don't know if it works or not. Again I'm open to hearing anyone's thoughts on this stuff.

I haven't tried more concentrates, I was hoping a 2nd gen heater might get enough heat to do it since mine couldn't. Also @lazylathe was able to get a basket screen to actually stick in the male joint of his gs which would add some more heat:

I know that adds metal back in and I'm also not sure the glass screen would fit in it. Maybe some cotton or help fiber though. Also I'd be down for getting a new bowl, that shape makes me worry about it breaking though. Maybe I'm just not picturing it right. I know trying my gs on glass where the joint isn't the center of gravity makes it more tipsy.

For concentrates is a bowl where the middle raises up crazy? Almost like a post going straight back up towards the heater? Not sure what that would look like with airflow or what would be at the top of the post to hold concentrates.
