Wow!

One of my favorite threads. I've used this thread to learn things, reminisce and motivate and focus myself before a long run or work out by posting something in it while waiting for my coffee to kick in.

So ... Thanks @Vapinghole ! This thread bettered my life as well.

Also a big ol' thanks to FC in general for the atmosphere that brings folks together like this.

Yeah, this thread is cool because it really goes to show that the "lazy stoner" stereotype is a myth. Six years and 38 pages of evidence and counting, thanks @Vapinghole.

I hit my one year anniversary of doing CrossFit back in February and I'm feeling great. This year my partner and I participated in the CrossFit Open (scaled). I was able to do kipping pull-ups for the first time during 18.3 which felt great--like real progress.

On the advice of my GI doctor I gave up red meat and hard liquor at the beginning of the year as a non-resolution (people never keep those for long). It was seriously hard, I love my whisk(e)y, mescal, and various pork and beef products, but they are too inflammatory for my sensitive stomach. As a result of the lifestyle change (I eat vegetarian basically for most meals with a few chicken and fish meals thrown in, and mostly refined sugar free) I was able to give up the proton pump inhibitors I have been taking for 10 years; one less pharmaceutical in my life is a good thing. As a happy consequence of that and the CrossFit, I'm also about 15 pounds closer to my goal weight and down two pants sizes. 10 more lb to go! I'm happy enough eating Beyond Burgers when I get a beef craving feeling this good.

Hope all my fellow Athlete Vaporists are having a great year of progress as well!

Great post, @Aizen-sama. It resonates with me as I’m struggling to remove beloved items from my diet so I can stop taking my proton pump inhibitors.

Cheers to you!

Here's my now published comment in the NYT

"Like several other commenters, cannabis has been an adjunct to my exercise activities for many years. I've been jogging, mountain climbing, snow shoeing, xc skiing and biking stoned for almost fifty years. Yesterday, being the first warmish sunny day with roads cleared of snow and ice, I cleaned up my bike and headed out to the entrance to one of the mountain notches for an hour or so of vigorous up-hill pedaling. Before hopping on the bike, I took two tokes from my vaporizer. What a lovely afternoon for this seventy year old.

About three years ago I quit smoking pot and turned to vaporization. My lungs are so so grateful. And the reward: I just had the best xc ski season of my retired 70-year-old life, skiing four or five days a week for two or three vigorous hours each day. Always with my vaporizer at hand in an insulated pouch in my daypack. Outdoors in nature, working up a sweat, often with good friends, stoned out of my gourd: This is one of my joys."

@Polarbearboy .. Couldn't agree more! I've been living this article for about 20 years as well. Nice to see the corroboration. Have posted several times here alone about "always" getting high before a long run. It's part of my warm up and stretch routine. 15 to 20 minutes into the run when the runner's high kicks in for me ... It's great when the runner's high "melds" with the cannabis high.

Can't count the number of times I've run at night, got lost in my own head because of the music and melded highs and came out of it without feeling like I actually ran all that time. Sometimes it's like I wake up all that time later on the road leading back into my housing development. Love when that happens.

Of the nearly 150 kilometers of trails at the world-class place I ski, among my favorites is a remote 7 mile loop that includes a fairly steep long hill about half-way round the loop. I used to struggle, sweating and out of breath and legs hurting, to herringbone up, sometimes even taking my skis off and walking up. This year I got into such good shape and had such good dope--God Bless coming legalization in two adjacent states!--that I'd find myself nearing the end and trying to remember if I'd even come up the hill yet, coming up the hill was so effortless and my buzz kept the difficulty from even entering consciousness.

Anyone in this forum tried microdosing shrooms?

Slightly off topic, but I've been microdosing the last month or so. Sometimes I feel the effects of the shrooms, like a slight floaty/dreamy feeling. Have been cautious about going mountain biking in this state, because I like high speed and large jumps (I almost broke a rib a few months ago)

But lately I've felt like I could handle it, have tried it a few times and pretty surprised. After I've been riding for a bit, I can't really feel the shrooms anymore. The experience of riding seems to fill all my senses too 100%, and drowns out the shrooms. Not only that, I'm also meeting or beating personal records on shrooms! (I record my rides with Strava) On both the climbs and the downhills, I'm riding just as fast as usual.

One if the ideas behind microdosing shrooms is to relax your state of mind. I wonder if this mental state is also helping me get in the zone physically? To me it makes sense. The best athletes all agree on how important the "flow state" is. That place where your mind is quiet and your body is on autopilot. You're not thinking, you're just doing.

I vaguely remember something about certain types of mushroom being useful for athletes. Anyone know more about this?

@bleak - Interesting question. I never thought of using psychedelics unless I'm trying to have a psychedelic experience. Shrooms have caused me to "see things" and it's not something I'd want to happen when I'm working out. My last shrooms experience...I stared at a red light, in a dark room for over an hour as it expanded and contracted. Really enjoyed the trip.

I get your point though...micro-dosing may allow a psychedelic to be used to heighten the experience without it getting trippy.

Would love to hear from others who may have tried micro-dosing shrooms or any other psychedelic to increase physical performance.

I've microdosed but never in any workout capacity, I actually prefer it as you can keep your head about you a bit :D I could totally see how it could benefit, as any microdose I've ever taken has just given me a a feeling of well being/joy/confidence and no physical/eye limitations. I didn't drive, but I certainly could have no issue.

Cheers to athlete stoners! I've been bulking since the end of Feb, 6 lbs added so I know there's some fat, but am feeling strong! Gonna cut in a few weeks, for a few weeks

Was out of town a bit and have been doing 100 pushups, wacky variations too to increase difficulty (inclined, clap, close, backpack of weight on me) my chest definition is nice! Wasn't as good as the gym but my chest looks bigger honestly after my 3 week work break with only pushups.

Hey guys!!

I snowboard, lift weights and hike.

I usually vape .05-.1g daily at night, usually 30-90min after consuming my late dinner.

I was wondering if anybody knows the optimal time to wait after ingesting dinner before you vape?

(extra points if someone knows what the optimal wait time would be in regards to protein synthesis and muscle growth)

I remember reading that cannabis can increase digestion but I am unsure if that is in relation to use in general or if it is only when it is consumed that digestion is affected.

I swim a couple km's, 3 times a week and thoroughly enjoy a vape before my workout. Love the zone I get into.
The water is such a crazy medium to work out in. 'just the right amount of resistance on my joints.

I'm an avid skier as well.' spent a ton of days Backcountry.Funny thing is, I stopped vaping on powder days 'cuz no drug compares to steep and deep pow.

Any of ya'll use CBD flower or CBD concentrates after a training session for that anti inflam and relaxation?

My days are normally around 4 hours of training and I'm trying to source some CBD flower here in EU. Wonder if any of you have experience with it,

I vape heavy cbd strains the day after tough workouts specifically to reduce the lactic acid burn that sometimes forces me to sleep in positions i dont prefer.

This is a bit of a double edged sword for me. When i use MJ, especially high cbd,i get the Muscle relaxation and calming sleepy effect. But i also feel like for whatever reason, im not as hydrated as i would be otherwise. I dont know if im just drinking less than i need or im retaining less. But the temporary reliefcomes at the cost of longer term recovery. It slows my metabolism down.

Even though I'm 70, I've gotten myself into such good shape over the last year that I can't get my breathing or heart rate elevated unless I'm going uphill. We've already got 6-8 inches of ugly heavy wet now frozen snow here on the north side of the mountains. But on the other side of the notches, they have zero snow, so I went down yesterday with my mtn bike...and vape. After a couple of tokes, spent an hour biking up a steep woodsroad then down in less than ten minutes. A couple of more tokes, and I headed up a paved but mostly abandoned fire tower road with several quite steep pitches. By then I was almost an hour from the car and got back tired but happy. Then off to my favorite bar for a couple of delicious double IPAs and chitchat with one of the region's top climbers. A bit later, a couple of tokes got me back up through the notches and home to a lovely eve drawing on my Stardustsailor VapCap and watching the Sox and Dodgers--until I fell asleep near mid-night with the longest game in World Series history headed for many more innings.

Awesome to hear! I'm a young 21 in comparison but aim to be your age and in equal condition! Want to be in my seventies and able to bike and climb mountains still!

When my Dad moved us 2 HAWAII we didn’t disagree!
I have buddies in their 70’s smoking joint’s and surfing ?

I should have mentioned that my current main out-and-about vaporizer for biking/hiking/skiing and just wandering around in my beloved wild and high and wickedly windy alpine zones is the Fury 2. Small size, very rapid heating, decent cooling, and dosing capsules make reloading a quick cinch in any weather.

Here it is on the edge of the massive glacial cirque Great Gulf with the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th highest mountains in northeast North America looming, Lapland rosebay flowers in the foreground.
