OK, I'm asking Eric @Boundless Vape Technology to respond & let all of us know if there is tape on or around the ceramic heating element or anywhere internally for that matter. TIA. Eric!

I'm sorry for the late response. Here is a quick teardown of the new Tera heater: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/enf9dc4cmfi9ipt/AAACgRGHfwo5C833y0jcbA2na?dl=0

Old teardown: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/hvf5duo9rfox58b/AADwfsbTjS3EFOQX3kvHWKNpa?dl=0

After discussing with our manufacturer and expressing the concerns of the original heater, it was decided to remove the rock wool insulation and thermal tape completely. We decided to move forward with PTFE, Teflon, film to use as an insulator on the outer ceramic core and also as a thin buffer for the internal heating rod. We have requested changes from our manufacturer to ensure our future units are up to spec and performing without any issues upon mass release and we have been working hard to get these newly improved units out to the community. Please feel free to ask any questions regarding this via comment, PM, or my email Eric@bndlstech.com

I do know that units have arrived in Europe and will be arriving in North America within the next few days. Pre-order customers will be notified via email of the updates in the morning and I hope to have tracking numbers out by the end of the week. Thank you all for the support in this and I do hope to share the Tera with you all soon.

Aside from the Tera updates, Boundless is holding a 420 giveaway: http://gimmyit.com/giveaway/420-giveaway/

I think I'll be taking a pass on the Tera. I've never been a fan of ptfe in my vapes and especially not next to the heating element. I have no idea if it is safe or not just my personal preference.

interesting. Certainly looks better than tape...I'm willing to give it a shot but I really wish they were able to produce the vape without anything around the heaters, which is probably not possible. I need to research PTFE Teflon. Looking forward to getting my Tera back! The beast will be back

So replacements will be going out this week?

PTFE melting point is at 620 degrees Fahrenheit. What are you worrying about?
In a convection vape the heater will be hotter than the temp in the bowl where you pack your herbs. It has to be so that by the time the air reaches your bowl it's hot enough. Concentrate mode goes up to 500F. I would imagine the heater is getting hotter than that. Too close to the melting point for my liking.

that's a good point and I would agree...I'd like to know exactly what the temp of the heater is in relation to the vaping temp.

Welp, I'm new to this place but I'm happy to say my replacement Tera just arrived! Can't wait to give it a try once the batteries are charged.

You got your replacement? Are you in the US?

Did you recieve an email from vaposhop that its on its way before getting your package?
I received notification from Vaposhop yesterday that the units had arrived and would be sent the same day. I did not receive a tracking number or notification from DHL though, but they still showed up.

I'd like to remind everyone about one of our rules:

Forum Rules said:
  • If you have a question or comment regarding material safety, post it in General Discussion. Do not post it in a model thread.

If someone wants to make a thread about PTFE in the general discussion secton you are free to do so, but we will not allow material safety discussion in model threads.

Thank you.

I get the rule but we have a vape here that was recalled because it was unsafe. I think it is an important discussion given this vapes history so far.

I looked for the double thumbs up button but couldn't find one. Ok, here goes:

Not only given the safety recall history, but the fact "fixed" units are landing on customer doorsteps, like, this morning.

Also, to my knowledge, this is the first acknowledgement by Boundless of the addition of PTFEs to the product. (I contacted an industry luminary in, I think, pretty close touch with Boundless, and he was unaware of this). The PFTEs are in what sound like some of the hottest areas of the internals.

Totally agreed, you may want to change this rule.

No, we don't want to change this rule. The rule exists to avoid derailing a model thread with discussion about the safety of specific materials. We're not about to engage in judgement calls where one thread gets to talk about materials safety but others don't.

You are free to start a thread on the safety of PTFEs. You can mention that this material is in the Tera and you can say that you started the thread because of this. You cannot, however, use that thread to bash Boundless. You can link to the new thread from this one, and you can also express your unhappiness with Boundless for using the material, but you get only one crack at it.
