I wish I could tell u, as I am no expert. Your first picture reminds of shatter that has been agitated/or left in the heat, which makes it sugar up. I know dispensaries discount "sugared" shatters, but I think it is more about appearance than loss of potency or flavor.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in.

What’s the problem with buddering? Is it just the appearance or maybe also taste and effects?
One of my last batches was buddering up under vacuum. I don’t know why but I think it’s still very tasty and strong... it was the first time my oil buddert, it wasn’t awaited but it’s ok I guess

a lot of people like budder better, myself included. I love how powerful the aroma is when you open it. And when hitting it you're smelling it more so you're tasting it.

IME budders/saps always taste better and are way easier to dab than shatters/waxes. It also seems at least in rosin tech, to define the amount of terpenes in the product. I've heard if it dont shatter it dont matter, still trying to understand that logic :shrug:

Felt the same way until achieving truly stable shatter. IME, this doesn't "shatter". It's easy to break off just the amount you want, and it's the same high quality every time. (Still no idea why that didn't happen this time.) Budder can be fine at first, but it quickly deteriorates into tasteless, dry particles that are a mess - again, IME.

At least, the budder that happens accidentally, due to agitation, before the concentrate is fully purged. A former FCer posted that a far superior budder can be achieved with an even longer purge. Haven't managed this yet, but no complaints with shatter after five to seven days under vacuum with gentle warming.

I've found the same thing, budder/wax is typically more terpy.
But I think I can get more mileage from shatter as I think it's a bit more potent.

I just have a small Swiss Army nice to cut off the desired amount.

I was wax only until I picked up a DNail PolarShift.
Since then I've been shatter only; just make sure to cut up a few pieces for on the go.
Now that it's getting warm again the shatter is getting gooey when out and about (maybe wax for summer?).
Anyway the best combo from a cost/taste/efficacy standpoint that I've run across is a small piece of shatter paired with a small drop of HTFSE.
I can get a gram of the HTFSE to last through about three grams of shatter and it brings the shatter to the next level.
Mmmmmm, where has this stuff been all my life?

Wedding Cake(Triangle Kush x Animal Mints)...although I have heard similar strain made with Cherry Pie and Girl Scout Cookies(aka pink cookies). But the one in the pic is the triangle kush x animal mints




Some naaaaaassty #GreenDotLabs Black label "Butterscotch"(BC Vanilla kush x Instant Karma) full spectrum extract...equal parts terp city and punch in the face imo. Def shouldn't be doing this in the day time...but I like to live dangerously, and free of pain lol.

I pretty much only dab now, when I get flower it eventually gets squished, mined, extracted, washed, sifted, or something! lol.

Been enjoying these Jack Herer boulders lately. and this dutch fire sugar is super terpy.
