Hex-Nail (HN-01) - RIP

just_the_flu

they say im crazy but i have a good time
...i hope shipping continues this week! i'm also somewhat hoping my coils got shipped and i did not receive the tracking information (it happens)...

...out of principle i am not pm'ing anyone to ask if my order could get shipped... this is not how that works! I'm sorry.. i should not have to send messages to get an order that I PAID for to ship in a timely manner... if i have to ask for my order to ship than i don't want to deal with a company like that.. sorry, i just don't have the time to remind everyone i bought shit from to ship out my order i paid for(that's not the customers job!)... there should be systems in place to ensure no orders go un-shipped... i do not think that's an unrealistic request...

...back to waiting patiently....

im on skynet hn01 preupdate obviously so i dont have 25mm coil tunings. what changes do i need to make to pid to use properly with 25mm quartz banger standard not an eternal quartz. @mutten840 @HexNailAva @HexNailLiz @ensabbahnur

@afeekh as of right now just set your coil to 20mm barrel and then everyone is finding a good nail setting of “standards heavy” or if you don’t think that is to your liking set your “nail type” to “no nail” and then go into the PID setting and if you are using eternal then this is the correct setting I received and was recommended by @HexNailAva and @HexNailLiz
P-6
I-18
D-20
I limit- 70%-80%(.7-.8)
D limit- 70%-80%(.7-.8)
Windup- on/.25
These setting will work on most bangers

That should get you started on try those settings out and see what preforms the best results will very but you should find a happy medium with those settings. If not let me know I have been messing with the PID setting for a gavel and have gotten it pretty dialed in feel free to hit me up if you are still having issues

Best of luck and make sure your coil fits the banger cold yet you are still able to rotate the nail when it’s cold and it does not slip off but at the same time it does not scrape or hang up when rotating you want a smooth rotation but a firm figment. The last thing you want is a super sung coil and it blow out the the banger when cooling, because the coil will expand when hot and so will the banger and when cooling it will contract. Also make sure you have a silicone o-ring or silicon rubber band and some s-Clips to secure the coil arm to the banger also wire will work just wrap it around the arm of the coil and neck of banger when it’s cold and try to get it tight so the coil does not move around or tilt on the banger when bumped

? mine starts off with the same kP but all the other values are different... the last 2 values specifically are at 100% default on mine but guess I'm just dumb and suck at working this thing even worse than i thought

New units have a different tuning setup than the old versions. @muunch has a newer unit

I'm an HN-01 user and am quite pleased with the performance of 30mm Flat Standard Heavy for the AH Liger coil.
I want to update to OS2.0 (2.1? for the Skynets) when it is released, but am worried that the performance might be wanting.
Honestly, I doubt that it can be anything but an improvement, but ... I'm still concerned.
If I just note my current PID settings I could always implement them on OS2.0 to get apples to apples performance?

Or maybe even a better tasting apple?

I am still curious about temps people are using for insert drops (as well as my competence at actually using this thing but anyway)

640 seems ok but idk. I might try and heat the cap up on the banger before dropping the insert in next time to speed stuff up? Or maybe just torch it with one of my small dynavap torches? So that both the insert AND the cap aren't soaking the heat.

I have no idea really. I'm down to too little concentrate to continue playing around for now, but insert drops do make it smoother in addition to making the first taste better due to the uptemp vaporization of the terpenes rather than just slapping them onto the already hot banger?

Like always I'm probably full of shit & am just here to be dumb publicly for your entertainment.

Cheers

Have you tried using the 20mm Liger for insert dropping, and if so what temps were you using?
I'm going to experiment soon with a SiC insert.

@muunch I run the insert tech with my gavel between 580° and 620° Depending on the size of my hit. From the set coil temp I set 3 boost/drop temp settings, I first boost the nail between 35° and 50° for about 30 to 50 seconds. Then when the timer is done one the first boost and the temp is at its highest point I drop in the insert cap it and let it melt. After is melts and I do my first pull I then have a drop temp of 50° for 45 to 60 seconds, its the same idea as torching and letting the banger cool as the hit continues. Finally if needed I boot about 25° for 30 to 40 seconds for a final heat up to clear. Then take the insert out and drop it directly into a cup of ISO, for an instant clean. It’s definitely going to be some trial and error for you since you are running the red queen but the premise will be the same just find your desired temp boosts and drop temps

Interesting, I actually thought this was an undesirable property of torch dabbing we were getting rid of by using the constant heat. I will have to try this. It looks like everything else was about right. I was maybe a bit high on my temps, and I'm not doing the downtemp tech, but otherwise all good.

Got some 99% iso off amazon and can confirm this works amazing. I have cork cupholders I've been dropping the hot insert onto to let it cool as well if needed.

Have you tried the convection carb cap tech where you heat your carb cap as well or is that pointless/stupid? Been debating whether to try but like I said I think I'll wait til my next re-up (hopefully before 420...) to start messing around again

Personally I think convection caps are more or less pointless with an enail. If you think about it with an enail you get constant heat and the temperature does not very much, when torching you really do not know the actual temperature and it varies from hit to hit. The convection caps are more helpful when torching so the whole nail stays hotter for longer lasting hits.

After the initial boost in heat/melt/hit phase ...
Is that a programmed drop temp of 50* / 45-60 sec. or just the nail cooling to baseline temperature after the initial temperature boost?

Do you Quartz guys turn the power off every hit to clean it perfectly?
To clean your banger after every hit with a couple qtips , 3 to 4 usually do
NOOOO i never heat clean any quartz nails Heating quartz will cause it to cloud up and then start to chazz bad and you will never get it clean!!! The best and cheapest method I have found for cleaning my quartz is a flat candle warmer and then a bath of Simple Green all natural cleaner (you might have some in your garage or shed) then sit your quartz sapphire SiC in the bath of Simple Green on the candle warmer in a short wide mouth ball jar or any empty dish that fits on the heating surface of the candle warmer. Let it sit over night and then jsut rinse with warm water and it’s brand new (I’m not joking) if there is little gunk or residue left just wipe with a paper towel, qtip, or if neeed SOFT FUZZY pipe cleaners. You do not what to scrape the inside of you banger cause then your screwed and it will chzz very easy there.

Yea that is a drop temp setting I have as a “boost” setting. Just when your adjusting you set point make is -50° in the boost option

Nah, a few qtips work fine for how low temp i keep everything and I don't bother using rosin on quartz since SIC is so much better about cleanup, then once a week or so Ill have everything cool and use some baking soda and a few drops of distilled water, gets everything perfectly clean and I can leave my coil wired up

My Red Queen stopped working after a couple months. The lights just don't turn on when I hit the switch.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I’ve recently gotten into the vaping game and am still trying to get my head around what’s the new hotness. I thought it was the FlowerPot but after reading a bit on here it seems to be Ligers and/or a quartz banger. I’m curious what everyone here would suggest for the best setup if you were to be starting out new today and money wasn’t a problem?

The reason I ask is because I put a deposit down for a HN-02 a few weeks back and am wanting to upgrade my setup. I recently purchased a new rig from a holiday sale and am trying to get more flavor from my sessions. The controller that I bought with the FlowerPot is pretty simple and is difficult to find a good temp that results in flavor and doesn’t leave residue or is too hot and no flavor. That’s what interests me most about the banger setup I’ve been reading from people on here.

Here’s the new rig:

Ohhhhh i love that rig and the dab mat! Im starting to want a nice heady rig so ive been looking at whats out there.

You will like the Red Queen once you get it, so many options to really dial in the dab. As we best setup the ligers are really nice and pretty easy to get clouds and taste imo and i love mine but im hearing great things from 25mm banger and coil setups that are properly tuned with a Hexnail. Ill have the 25mm coil and banger setup soon too and will definitely be throwing my 2 cents in the pot.

For urself tho ur only option at the moment is to go with a 25mm coil and banger. The current ligers that everyone is rocking are discounted while CCA710, the makers of the liger, prepared to release the new Liger Air. Could preorder but theres probably gonna be a big wait (CCA710 are known for this) or find a liger second hand which is a good option cause i dont see how anyone could ruin a liger? Imo a liger and the inserts should last forever if treated right and even then i can see them taking a beating and cleaning up nicely.
