Discontinued The Venus Apollo

Thanks! That’s a great idea that I missed. Guess I’ll be digging through my vape graveyard for screens! Feeling stupid right now.
Vapes and their quirks will do that. Let me save you some effort in the screen dept., I use an SS .5 inch screen(exact size of a US penny) I have a vendor I've used for a couple years now and you can get a 100 screens for $6.95. Most smoke shops will have them as well but generally not in that quantity or a great price.

If God is the answer, then the question is wrong
Went back to use my apollo few days ago after a few weeks hiatus due to new vape honey moon (100% convection on deman-nice)

Apollo still is my favorite no questions

If there could be the choice to power it with both a couple of externally charged 18650 like this day, or a proprietary battery pack rechargeable through usb connection in a cylinder shape (and obviously possibility to swap between options), I would buy rechargeble battery no questions as I can manage to wait for charging time, and while I like open source/ cheap side of 18650 i find extremely annoying battery routine.
And while on it, why not a wired power supply?

Also @Ratchett what about a fine mesh screen basket shaped to put on top of load ? it would allow to adapt to load size without need to move cooling unit. I did few miself and use everytime but they are not very nice, still they do great job and despite mesh being very fine it stays clean

I haven’t had an opportunity to find my old screens but I do believe that a screen between the load and the cooling tube will make a major improvement in cleaning the device. My latest annoyance is turning it off. I turn the device off via the 5 quick touches, then I carefully place it in an old Ryotz case to contain the odor. After carefully zipping the case shut and storing it in its hiding place, I then listen to it vibrating every 20-30 seconds (haven’t timed it). Is the touch area that sensitive? I make every effort not to contact the control strip. Am I missing something on turning it off? I read the manual but then had to stash it away, so it could be my own stupidity.

The largest screen I have is the one for the Crafty. It works relatively well in the Apollo crucible but could stand to be a few hairs bigger. The screen stuck to the cooling unit but there was less debris on the cooling unit.

Unfortunately, there is still debris and I'm concerned about it falling down into the section where the bulb is and combusting. I've been trying to accomplish cleanup without pulling the cooling unit out because I thought that might just make more of a mess but perhaps it needs to be pulled (at least it isn't as dirty with the new screen in action).

As far as the touchpad sensitivity, to get around the problem of always activating the Apollo when putting it away, I've opted on unscrewing the lid to the battery compartment most of the way before storing it. This helps.

I continue to be impressed with the build quality of the unit but clearly have a ways to go to lock down proper usage techniques. Last night, I used the boost more aggressively and thought I had combusted (smell). The load was very close to black in the center but tan on the edges.

My overall impression is good, taking into account the annoyances. So far, I would say the unit was clearly designed by a capable engineer but there could have been a bit more focus on ergonomics in use.

So I took pictures that evening of the dark abv in the basket screen, but fell asleep. Next day I wanted to take a picture of a load without a basket screen for comparison. I cleaned the CU and tube and after that...back to light abv. Hadn´t expected that because while the tube and cu were gooey it looked far from clogged. I ran three loads with and without a basket screen and every load was quite even with light abv a small chared crumb above the tip of the light bulb.

Just to show how dark the abv got with the basket screen and dirty cu. Third picture was supposed to show the light abv loads, but took the photo at night so they dont look very light.

Moral of the story: keep cu clean.

So, a limited batch of 50W apollos was sold out, and now the regular apollo2 is also sold out on the store. From what I gathered from this thread, the 50W version with lightweight chambers was pretty much superior in every way. That, and @villekille2 asking for more opinions on current features, do I sense a apollo 3 hitting the store in (hopefully near) future?

@Mr Mellish I used vaponic concentrate screen that is larger than the apollo chamber and formed it basket style using a small rod and apollo chamber (kind of press style), by this way it stays in place by itself

I don't have a Vaponic screen but did find a soft copper screen that has a larger circumference than the inside of the Apollo bowl. I've been throwing in the material, tossing the Crafty screen on top of that, then pressing the copper screen in on top. Because it's bigger, it does stay in place nicely and I no longer have concerns about clean-up.

Running at temp 5 and doing 3-4 10-15 second draws, then several draws at 5 with a 5-6 second boost gets the material quite toasty.

Still hate the sensitivity of the touchpad, though. It appears the Apollo will be forever stored with the battery compartment cap removed...

Hey guys, so I got my Apollo way back when it was initially released. At the time, I bought one of the extra long stems, but unfortunately, I managed to break it recently. I'm not noticing an extra long stem option anywhere on the site. Is the idea that the cooling unit replaces that functionality? @villekille2 If I were to order the kit with the glass stem, cooling unit, and high performance chamber, should all those parts fit properly with the oldest Apollo model?

@Fission from what I am reading we seem to to have the same model. Got my Apollo in April 2016 and was in second or maybe even the first batch of Apollos.

The kit with the cooling unit and the high performance chamber is what you want. Really optimizes the performance. Very recommandable.

Tell us what you think after testing. :)

That's great to hear! I figured that the cooling unit was the natural progression from the extra long stem, as ultimately they're meant to serve the same purpose. It definitely does sound like we've got the same model, so optimizing performance sounds great, just because the apollo definitely takes a bit of technique to maximize. I'm particularly excited to be able to shrink the bowl size so you don't have to make sure the air is properly flowing through your herb!

hmm, I'm attempting to order a new stem from the website, and I'm getting a page that says checkout is disabled. When I click the paypal button it is attempting and failing to load a popup. Is checking out currently down, or is this just an issue on my end?

Fission,
Yes I removed the option to turn it off, as there were comments that the controls were too complicated so I took away most options to make it more simple. But the feedback seems to say that the vibration motor is there just to annoy people, so we might aswell leave them out. In case you want to disable yours, it is possible quite easily if you just accept a small hole on the touch area..for example a 1 mm hole drilled to the correct spot will silence the motor.
Can you Villekille2 show picture where this correct spot are drill small hole to silence motor.

It is something not very easy to drill from the correct position, just a little bit wrong and the electronics will stop working. I was thinking to make detailed instructions but the risk is probably too high and i don't want to encourage anyone to possibly destroy their apollo.

As a long time owner of an Aromed with a halogen bulb, I've been watching this vape from prototype to second gen. I'm ready to finally take the plunge if and when it becomes available again. I love the look and design but I hope the touch pad get an update, I would hate having to unscrew the battery cap after every use...
