Just got a used Herbalizer. My first new plug-in vape since the Cloud EVO indiegogo campaign, so it's been a while since I had to learn a new vape's quirks.
But HOT DIGGITY DAFFODIL!!! My tolerance has been thru the roof, as I been recovering from major spinal surgery for months and canna is my main pain control. But once I got the bowl set up ok and the connections to my glass right, I am zonked, and as pain free as I'm likely to get today, from very little.
Less visible vapor than I'm used to from my Clouds, but no shortage of effect at all.
I think I'm unable to work for a bit. Guess it's time to work on a costume instead.
EDIT: Got new adapter and tried full bud method. Getting clouds comparable to the Cloud EVO with the same herb.

Update: The reason I bought a couple new vapes (Herbalizer, Da Vinci IQ) is we got dispensaries in Maryland now, three within 10 minutes of my place. They had some Acapulco Gold at one yesterday, and it produces especially visible vapor in the Herbie.

The Volcano Solid Valve and the Bags that come with it are far superior to Herbalizer. The bags are much more durable and are easily replaceable.

The cause of your issues with your bags failing is the design of the Herbalizer squeeze valve. There's a very short distance from the port of the bowl piece and the plastic bag. This causes the plastic to become brittle with use at high temps and worse yet all the stresses from the bag get focused there when it's inflated to its max. Since you're running at 445 you're going to be putting that small film of plastic through the worst case scenario. S&B avoided this issue by moving the plastic film away from the air path and also used a greater amount of material to spread stresses.

I believe if you ordered the following you would be all good to use the solid valve.

NOTE:You will have to hold the Solid Valve down to fill.

I modified my Herbalizer squeeze valve quite heavily to make it work. See the posts below for details.

Thanks @FlavorChaser for liking this post. I'd been looking for it for a long time. I wanted to report back that this mod is still working like the day I made it. It kicks the shit out of the regular herbie bag experience.

@Winegums you are welcome. I got a Herbie earlier this month and joined FC a few days later. I gave up flower for lent and still have a week to go so I haven't even used it yet. I've been reading this thread and the FlowerPot thread from the beginning (both huge threads) and liking posts with great info so I can find them later for future reference. I've got about 40 more pages to go in this thread. I was holding my first post on the forum until I had something to contribute, so it's good to know that I contributed without even trying to.

Was cleaning out a closet and found my old Vertigo hydratube from the OG Cloud ticker. With the 2.0 waterpipe adapter fits the Herbie perfectly.
Still trying to figure out the best way to vape oil/shatter in this thing. Messing with the oil pad dealie. Scared of oil dripping down and damaging something though.

Last night I filled "half" the bowl with a medium grind, lightly tamped down and then put two small (bb-sized) flattened pieces of concentrate on top of it and then filled the rest of the bowl. Figured the herb would absorb any liquid dripping down or being pushed upwards by the fan when using the bag. Filled a few bags at 410F and then finished it off with a couple more bags at max 445F. There was no liquid dripping and the taste hung in there even at 445F. I expected that as the session/bowl reached the end of its useful life that the concentrate taste would turn nasty as usual but it didn't. I figured it would work because the Herbie dries out the herb like crazy when vaping so any liquid could be absorbed by the dried out herb.

I have some de-gummed hemp fiber that I might use to make a bowl sized concentrate sandwich to see what concentrate alone would do.

I'm a little leery of using the metal pucks/pads with the concentrate.

I often use "redundant protection" on my vapes (filtering screen + hemp filter).
You could also try a hemp filter at the bottom of the bowl with metal pad on top of that--conc placed on the pad.
Then, if any liquid managed to leak thru the metal pad, the hemp is there to catch it.

Great idea! I can't wait to try it! Haven't used the hemp fiber in a long while but I remember it had a great, sweet taste to it.

I had totally forgotten, I got like a kilo of degummed hemp fiber in another closet (from experiments with filtering vapor years ago). I should try that with oil in the Herbie. Will try it with some herbage too.

@FlavorChaser Welcome to FC!. The Herbie is sure to make an impact. We are all interested to read of your introduction........won't be long now.

Thanks @mephisto for the welcome. I have about 28 more pages to get to the end of this thread. I've been reading as much as I can about the Herbie so that once my T-break is over I can jump in head first. Don't want to ask a bunch of questions that could easily be answered simply by reading. The countdown to lift off is on..... :)

Welcome.

Good work! You’d be amazed how many people don’t even bother to try the search function when they have questions. It’s a lot of pages of info, but you’ll be very knowledgeable when you’re done.

Tried both with some herb and with hemp fiber. Both work excellent, but I especially like with the fiber. One of the tastiest pure oil hits I've had. Ran the fan at full temp thru the hemp fiber for about 90 seconds before putting the shatter on it, knocked out traces of dust and improved taste. And now I got a use for all the fiber i've had around for years.

One of the things I dislike about some concentrates is how nasty and harsh the hits get when the concentrate is at the end of it's useful life/session. I didn't experience any harshness when I made the herb/concentrate sandwich. Did you experience anything like that?

Nope. Stayed the same level of smooth throughout. Most successful low temp oil vaping I've ever done.

The first things to boil off are the terps, so taste hounds chase the all-in-one dab hit so they don't have tasteless stuff left over (load enough just for one hit when dabbing...hard to do in a low temp setting like with Herbie). If you load enough concentrate for three hits, the first will be the tastiest, and the next two will be less flavorful but still potent. But once you get to that nasty stuff at the end it's time to throw it out. At that point you're mostly vaporizing the impurities left behind with little benefit.

Not sure what's happening with the sammich. Could be that the impurities are boiling off but masked by the flavor form the herb, or that the impurities are sticking to the abv and never boiling off, or some other cool shit we haven't thought of yet!

That just happened...
My Chong’s Choice Herbalizer started giving me an error message after about an hour of usage. It got put aside for about a year and yesterday I decided to take it apart and see if I could find the issue.

I though perhaps the bulb had failed so I disassembled it down to its core components and was able to examine the bulb. It was fine.

But what a complicated over engineered vape this this is. Examining the materials used and the vapor path there is no way I would ever use it again. It’s now in my trash can. A complete failure in my opinion.

Yeah it’s a bummer. I fished it out of the trash in case anyone asks me to point out some areas of concern. It’s just not one of my better vape purchasing decisions.

The vapour path in an Herbalizer is all stainless until it reaches the top of the herb chamber which is high temperature plastic. I think you're confusing the air path (which starts at the bottom and leads to the blub), with the vapour path (which starts at the bottom of the herb chamber goes to the whip or bag).

Have you used a plastic straw? Indoor AC? the vents in your car? a snorkel? All of these have plastic air paths that you breath through.

Did you attempt to contact Herbalizer about your unit not functioning? My Herbalizer was out of warranty and had a huge problem with it that they fixed for free. I honestly was surprised that they were willing to take care of me in such a way.

Next time you have a problem with a product, take it to the people who made it. If they have any sense of business and pride they will want to make it right for you to the best of their ability.

But what a complicated over engineered vape this this is.
I don't know what you were expecting? This is likely one of the most over engineered vapes there is. It has several probes and sensors, fans, a full micro controller, and an over powered halogen bulb to make it work. It's what you get when a pair of NASA satellite engineers wants to make a vape. The result should be very precise control of air temperatures across the entire spectrum, +- 3*C or 5*F regardless of airflow, which is still unmatched in the vaping world.

I don't think you had enough of an experience with the vape to condemn it in such a way.

I've mentioned this before but it's worth repeating.....I'm a recreational user but someone close to me NEEDS the Herbie for medical reasons and I'm thankful we have it for that reason.

When severe migraine pain (Level 10 pain on a scale of 1 to 10) became a 24/7 ordeal for us I asked the resident vape Sensei, @stickstones for a recommendation. The requirements were:
- Easy to operate. When severe pain and nausea are at these levels most folks aren't going to be mechanically effective. It has to be simple to use.
- Doesn't require a lot of cleaning and is easy to clean when it does need cleaning.
- Instantaneous/on demand (A second feels like an eternity with those migraines so waiting for temp or a heat soak is out of the question).
- Has to hit like a freight train without harshness. Coughing with those migraines is torture.

I can't even count the times I've told Sticks how much we appreciated that recommendation......and still do.
